    Did you ever think that using a 9 cubic ft mixer for this project which mixes more cement at one time?

    • @buildingourlittlemountain
      @buildingourlittlemountain 17 днів тому

      No we haven't thought about that. We can't move too much faster than we are with this machine because it takes some time to move each bag of concrete.

    How much less did this cost than calling in a cement truck?

    • @buildingourlittlemountain

      That is a really good question. We didn't get any quotes to bring a truck up, but I wish we would have so that we could compare that to using our Mud Mixer.

    I have a feeling this is much too late to be of service, but a) I really do think you're doing a nice job on the drywall. You have the thin coat down and that's the secret. I would use a bigger knife each time though, but you are off to a good start. The less sanding the better. b) However, I really like my power sander on a stick a lot. I can sand the whole room on a good thin coat in like 20 mins tops. Harbor Freight sells one but I have Wen off Amazon. And I have a little cart I built for it all to hold the vac. c) That drywall jack has a pivot in it if you haven't found it already. you can fold it sideways and put the sheet on then fold it up and put the sheets up on ceiling and its much easier to handle. Can even do it one person. d) yes, I hope you did a vapor barrier and I missed it. Someone else commented that. You may have figured that out but when you were starting off, I noticed you were still fighting it up to horizontal. Don't need to work so hard. I'm excited for you guys. I wish I could make people sign up b/c this is a wonderful DIY family channel.

    • @buildingourlittlemountain
      @buildingourlittlemountain 7 днів тому

      I love the idea of a power sander! We'll have to look into that when we build our house. Our closed cell foam acts as the vapor barrier so we don't need to add plastic beneath the drywall. Thank you for the comment!!

    When we do drywall in Australia we use a stud glue so that we use less screws which leads to less mudding. What you do is dab it on the studs where you’re going to place the board and when you put the screws in it all squeezes together os you use less screws less mudding less sanding

    RE: the comment below about the heat pump, I would suggest a geothermal system with wells in your situation. Not cheap to install but incredibly efficient and rarely needs to run the backup heat even in very cold winters in Kansas.

    • @buildingourlittlemountain

      We have actually been talking about that! We need to do more research but that is something we are considering!

      @@buildingourlittlemountain Yeah. DO NOT get a Florida Heat Pump. Water Furnace is good. I have an off brand I can't recall. Maybe Geo Comfort or something like that. Mine actually has a triple pond loop. But one can do three wells into groundwater. The cost is probably about $34,000 all in. But I'm all electric and last month in the heat of Kansas my electric bill was $276. And that woudl also lend itself to solar which I'm hoping to install myself next year.

  • @SI-lg2vp

    Hope you plan a heat pump. Resistive heat is very expensive way to heat a home.
