Here are Bible verses in support of slave ownership new and old testament (Leviticus 25:44-46 (NLT)), (Exodus 21:2-6 (NLT)), Jesus Christ thinks slaves should be beaten too (Luke 12:47-48 (NLT)), (1 Timothy 6:1-2 (NLT)), (Ephesians 6:5 (NLT)), (Exodus 21:20-21 (NAB)). Why would a moral person preach from such an immoral book?

Exodus 21:2-6 When you buy a Hebrew slave, he shall serve six years, and in the seventh he shall go out free, for nothing. If he comes in single, he shall go out single; if he comes in married, then his wife shall go out with him. If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out alone. But if the slave plainly says, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free,’ then his master shall bring him to God, and he shall bring him to the door or the doorpost. And his master shall bore his ear through with an awl, and he shall be his slave forever. Luke 12:47-48 And that servant who knew his master's will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating. But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more. Ephesians 6:5 Bondservants and Masters Bondservants, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, 1 Timothy 6:1-2 Let all who are under a yoke as bondservants regard their own masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be reviled. Those who have believing masters must not be disrespectful on the ground that they are brothers; rather they must serve all the better since those who benefit by their good service are believers and beloved. Thank you for your question I am going to assume this is an honest question (though it seems more like a critic)and that you are seeking an answer. Slavery in this time was a known those in slavery out number freeman 3 to 1 it was the situation they were in and the Bible points that out. One thing we have to always keep in mind is the context which the scripture is written otherwise you can make the Bible say whatever you want. Slavery was what we consider an employee today and yes there were some forced labors as what we know today as slavery. the Bible does not condone slave ownership as forced labor. If you read these verses in OT you will see that they are in favor of the slave making laws to prevent a man from selling himself into slavery forever. Limiting it to 6 years then he is free(Exodus 21:2-6) Luke 12:47-48 he idea that Jesus speaks of in Luke Romans 6:16 Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? Whether you like it or not or believe it or not you are a slave to what has master over you. If its Jesus then you are a slave to righteousness if it is sin then it is to satan. I know many find this hard to believe but it is a choice that we each get to make. 1 Timothy 6:1-2 Lets start with what a bond servant is. A bond servant is someone who has completed there time in the contract of slavary (much like we today have contracts to work) they have done the required time but no long are required to work for this master. On occasion the slave would marry(another slave) and have children and the master treated them fairly and the slave did not want to leave. There he would become a bond servant to the owner (Exodus 21:5-6) Slavery is a known fact in this day and age, and the Bible instructed those that receive Christ and were still as slaves to be the best worker they can be to represent Christ to others. Here in America we have come to hate the word slave due to the American history behind it. But in that time it was not always forced labor. Some would sell themselves in slavery, others forced like we see in Exodus. Look beyond the word itself to what we hate as slavery the forced labor and mistreat of people. Jesus and no where in the Bible does it condone such behavior or treatment to anyone. As I read your question I hear the pain and anger in the words you write, but reality is that the Bible does not condone slavery or harsh treatment of people. If you want to understand the word keep it in context and pray that the Lord will help you understand. The Holy Spirit will guide you in truth. Some use arguments like this one to justify themselves as to why they do not obey God. As you know it will not work. Here I have written the correct meaning and response to the verse only to stop you from leaning on these scriptures to justify yourself in sin. In the end you know right and wrong because God has given us a conscience. And you will not be free from that condemnation without accepting Christ as your savior. Allowing him to rule over your life. I will be praying for you please ask yourself why you seek to discredit the words of God? it is the enemy at work in and through you, but it does not have to be that way. God loves you, please feel free to ask any other questions you would like
