Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) is a serious threat today in the USA. It is the first cousin to tb. It may come from birds but seems to follow dogs. Sketchy info on this. I can't elaborate on the details i have discovered in the last decade. Lung health is paramount. Keep looking. My great aunt passed from it in the late 60s.
