KISS TCP port is not connected to VARA TNC. How can we solve this problem? Can you help me?
I have not run into this problem so I probably can't help. The KISS TCP are defaulted in the VARA FM program. If you are not connecting, my only guess is that the port is in use by another program and maybe try changing the port number maybe up one digit in both VARA FM and the Winlink session. Again, this is just a guess. Maybe someone that has experienced this problem will see this and reply and correctly resolve the problem. Good luck.
I wish I can go sometimes and they can help me with my apps because they were playing with my phone turn upside down. I am locked it blocked it. It’s like now notifications back-and-forth. I don’t have time for myself on my phone 10461 drives you can give me someplace to help me
Does not explain what VAra is used for - only how to install it.
Thanks for the video. Really helped setting everything up including when you entered the W5RGV-11 (06:56) I entered W5RGV-1 to make my connection. Thanks & 73, KI5DOG
Great video, thank you for posting.
I’ll be doing this as soon as my DigiRig arrives. Saving your video as a favorite. Thanks and 73, Scobie, AC4GM
I'm going to guess that this requires a soundcard to use VARA and not the built in TNC in something like a Kenwood D72?
Yes, this requires a soundcard interface to use VARA. A conventional TNC does not work.
Can't read setup
How many minutes into the video is the setup you can''t read? You may want to try changing you display resolution but I am not sure.
Your advice to set retries to 15 was very helpful. I was finally able to connect after making that change!
I am glad that helped. Most of the sysops have their radios scanning multiple frequencies so sometimes it takes a while for their radio to scan and hear the frequency you are connecting on. 73
One of the best video's on this subject yet, Just got started this weekend. Now I need to configure my old kenwood 850 for CAT control, Also hooking up VARAC for qso's. Thanks
Glad it helped some. Good luck with the CAT control. 73.
Thanks for the tutorial!
My Pleasure.
Update K5QW, Success! Great video Joe, tnx for your efforts.
Glad it is working for you now. 73
Hi Joe, K5QW, I have the paid version of Vera FM, connected to Kenwood TS2000 via Signalink. I can connect to Vera FM just fine, but I cannot do the Autotune to any of the nodes down here (Weslaco). I do have the record level set so Vera FM shows 1:00 o'clock. When I start a connection to a node it fails without much info. Any ideas? Kim
I'll give it a try. I have ARDOP WinLink working, but I'll try this again following your steps.
Not getting any type of reading on the AFC or S/N in Vara. Everything appears to be configured correctly and my HF rig is transmitting but unable to connect to anything. Thoughts? Tried to connect to several different Winlink stations and I'm unable to, Winlink telnet works fine
Not sure. You won't get any reading on AFC or S/N dials until a connect is made. Try checking sound card selection again and make sure the ALC level is not too high. You can click Tune in sound card settings and radio will begin transmitting and you can look at ALC level on your rig. If both input and output sound cards are correct then try other stations again. Don't know what else to check at this point.
WORKS GREAT. THANKS !!
I have done this how do u send an email ?
Look me up (AG5DL) on QRZ.com and my email is on that page. 73
I've been trying for 2 days to do what you did in a few minutes. Thanks a million.
You are welcome!
Very good guide! Much Appreciated!!!
No problem!
Just getting into Vara HF and Winlink. Thank you so much for this guide. 73 de G7BHE
Very welcome!
how do i get winlink to control my IC9700 frequency? everything works but changing the frequency
There is a USB driver on ICOM's site. Unplug the radio from your computer and then install the driver you downloaded from ICOM and then plug the cable between the radio and computer and hopefully that will get the frequencies to change correctly for you. Also, I think there is a setup option in the VARA FM menu that lets you enter your radio info. so it talks to your radio. I hope this helps. 73
Joe: You've saved me many hours of set up time and frustration.. Thank you. 8P6RC
I am glad it helped.
So how do you set the gauges?
The Audio Input gauge is set by setting the recording level in windows sounds and you set the ALC gauge on the IC-7300 with the playback level in windows sounds.
Thank you for this!
My Pleasure. Glad it was helpful.
