Watching these episodes reminds me of the 60s as a soldier not a Marine, but had this training as well. Yes, I crawled under live machine gun fire. We were getting ready for Vietnam. What I love about this show was the human factor that always comes into play. Great show, cast and stories.

This brings back memories of my childhood growing up in National City CA. We were a Navy town, but we got to see a lot of Marines training in the bay or beach. All the aircraft and other cool stuff. When I was 8 years old Marines seemed like they stood 10 foot tall. Great show here.

@robertgross9180 I was born in 1970 and I could remember when our troops were still there and the evac process. It was on the news every night. I remember the news interrupted Evil Knevil doing a jump on TV. It was only for a minute, but it was about Vietnam and something that happened to our troops. I remember when me and my friends would play war, the toy guns and the surplus equipment we used to get from the military surplus was all WW2 style. The toys didn't touch the Vietnam War very much..I remember a line of highly detailed actions figures that were molded in fighting stances or firing a morter or an M60 machine gun. Those guys were decked out with M16s, flack jackets, etc. I never got any, but they were neat to look at. Even my GiJoes were more geared towards WW2 or Korea. Joe had M1 carbines, M1 Garands or a 1911. Maybe a M3 or an M1A1 Thompson. What if they did a 2 hour movie with the Lieutenant being shifted off to Vietnam in 1968, carrying an M16.

That motel was next to the Revere House at Tustin and first st. Revere House was a well known old school dinner house. All just about 7 miles from mcas El Toro. The hotel office later became Davinci Italian restaurant with really great food…

The punch line at the end is too much the truth. "It's funny how a girl can be so close to what a guy really wants and still miss it by so far. " I've known 2 young soldiers who would have done well to take heed to such wisdom.

3:18 When I was stationed with the 2nd Amtrac Battalion at Camp Lejeune in 1968 one of our amtracs sank to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. It was loaded with 30 Marines and as it came down off the ramp of an LST, instead of floating it sank like a rock. All the Marines inside were drowned. It's a day I'll never forget.

Right. Rice was going to turn Louis Nye over to the FBI. At that time, playing military dress up games would get you investigated for espionage. Stolen Valor may have been the perpetrator's least concern.

I never saw or even heard of this show until I found it on YT. It's a shame that "Hollywood" isn't producing/fronting decent, wholesome programs such as this. This episode hit home with me as it was a drunk driver who ended my military reserve and full-time civilian careers in a split second. I think, though, in reality, that the Marine Corps would have given the fictional 2nd Lieutenant a non deployment billet, or an Honorable Discharge and received a government (VA) pension. I had half a dozen herniated discs and NO surgery, and it was "adios" for me. And it's a rare day when I'm not in pain and cursing the drunk who hit me and who spent less than 24 hours in jail.

This TV series continues to keep my attention and high interest. Mostly because of the realistic moral dilemmas portrayed and so well acted out. Secondarily because in my service tenure Officer and Enlisted we are so well tuned to each other. Thereby sustaining a long trust and reliance upon- with each other. Great series from Rodenberry!!

The backpack radios were likely a mix of PRC10 and PRC25. The first was al miniature tubes, the second was an updated design that used many of the same modules. The PRC77 was designed as a fully solid state version, built on the same chassis & case. I question why the Marines were developing this impossible system rather than the US Army at Ft. Monmouth, where their electronics research and schools were located. It was in New Jersery, where RCA and several other defense contractors were located. The radios of that day were incapable of a system like this. It took the development of GPS to get the required accuracy. Otherwise, it's a good movie.

I believe this is my favorite episode. I discovered this show on a channel that shows good old shows. I wasn't born when this came out nor the other shows people my age wouldn't take time to watch. During this time I fell in love with Gary's acting. I thought I have see them all until this year more of his works are on UA-cam. That Gary for all the jobs you have brought to our lives. ❤
