Class 50s at work on Waterloo - Exeter route in the late 80s. (Editor note: Loco in 2nd scene is 50005 not 50025 as captioned - apologies)
In my opinion a '50' at full throttle sounds even better than a Deltic. Controversial I know but growing up in Reading during their heyday I saw far more of them and they'll always be a favourite.
BR blue era was best in my view. Didn't like large logo and what followed. Never liked NSE
Unfortunately didn't get any BR blue era video, but a few decent photos back in the day.
At 3:03 what a glorious shot. Absolutely brilliant
Many Thanks. Good weather at Ribblehead!
Was a great day
That it was!
Good to see some Bashers around Stratford Way!
Yep & in fine form!
4:51 that loco has since renumber to 50049
Today only a few 50s are still in service as of now and some can still be seen on the mainline
Them 50s really put on a show
Everything about the Class 50 just shouts "Muscle"
I wish I could live back in the NSE times. I was only 8 when this footage was taken.
Short trains near the end 4 coaches I remember 12
Memories mk2 f red cow and double dragon beer
Brings back fantastic memories of spotting in the 80s. Proper locomotives, with character and personality. Not like nowadays 😢
So so sad I miss each and every one of them
Great video of some wonderful times, happy memories of my youth. Thank you for posting!
Thanks for the comments, much appreciated!
Awww that's sad 😔
Awsome 50s
Awsome great bashing memories
Thanks, yes very true.
Greatttt
Cheers
These are tremendously nostalgic. I can just imagine the sound effects.
That was some impressive clag from the HST powering up leaving Exeter! Interesting that both power cars of the HST were under power, so perhaps an AWS problem. Impressive power to weight ratio there.
Cheers. Yes, both power cars working, suggesting something else, although 50031 still putting a good contribution in nonetheless!
@@d412video2 perhaps one of the power cars was being intermittent in regards to the engine, which you'd get away with North of Exeter......
Probably not AWS as you could legally isolate and continue in passenger service. (Until Southall accident happened and it became an automatic ‘failure’.)
Great video down by the river at 2:00 near the old remains of the Axminster lyme Regis rail bridge. Practically lived down the river in the summer as kids, remember seeing the trains all day 🙂
Thanks. Yep, good location that!
Having seen in the video the two Class 50 locos at Glasgow Central, I wonder if they actually were paired in service before the West Coast Main Line was electrified.....
Good chance I would say. Thanks for watching.
Excellent! When trains sounded like trains 🚂🤓
Thank you.
First time viewer, you have a great looking layout
Thanks
Memories
😎
Really like your layout, so much going on around the village, nice pond and surrounding. I like the short trains, 50s, 25 and shunting area👍👍👍 Darren
Thanks Darren, comments very much appreciated. Enjoying much of your content.
Excellent vide really enjoyed watching this 👍
Thanks. Much appreciated
@@d412video2 most welcome I recall in around the late 90s D400 visiting at a open day at thornaby depot on teeside apparently it came down to teeside under it's own power and around 2006 I think there abouts or perhaps 2008 D400 also passed northbound through Darlington county Durham on a railtour it' was on the rear and D9000 Royal Scots Grey was on the front I can't recall the railtour perhaps it was a empty stock working
Thanks, great video 👍
Thanks, much appreciated.
So sad seeing my favourite one Revenge like that….. and all the others. Great knowing that Triumph was saved and is at home now at Bodmin.
Yep, had a trip of Triumph recently at Bodmin. Great location & great loco.
Just come across your great clips. Enjoying them on Father’s Day with a bacon Butty and a brew. Cheers for uploading them 👍🏼
Thanks. Ideal viewing conditions!
Brings back fond memories, back in 1985 I would catch the Paddington to Wolverhampton evening commuter train out of new street after school, most times I had the whole train to myself, head out of the front window as it stormed up the incline through the tunnel, scored all 50 of them in this way in about a year.Later on when I had more money from my paper round aged 14 I would travel behind them everywhere with my pals to penzance and the Exeter Waterloo line, even had one up to man piccadilly once on a service train not booked for a 50.happy days
Excellent video 👍really enjoyed 👏🏻
Thanks, much appreciated!
Nice pictures but change that awful music please
Cheers & yes, the curse of auto generated music..
Just watched the whole series you've filmed, great selection of footage. 👍
Many thanks
Great video Tim cooper would enjoy this one. I've just subbed
Many thanks
Currently getting as much info on laira in ready for next year's Laira scrapline layout build and you're not wrong, enjoyed this lol.
I remember going on a permit round Laira and seeing a lot of these and some of the Fitters telling us they wished they could repair them but sadly the cost didnt justify it.
Think I filmed hood towing the hst at 1 hour 28mins 30 sec here ua-cam.com/video/s3LwHDUKaPw/v-deo.html

RIP to the 50
when i was a little boy , we lived right next to the wcml , when two fifties would thrash out of wigan , i was so scared of the noise i would run in to my mum . i still remember the noise and look of them today
Dean park?
Magnificent footage, Thanks for posting. Although I don't think that's 50025 at 0:54 as 025 was in early NSE livery when written off in the 1989 crash whereas that's in revised NSE
Thanks for comments. Good spot! Yes 25 was still in early NSE, now you mention it! Will have to re-check the notes carefully, apologies.
Cleared it up. It's 50005 not 50025! Some confusion, but Collingwood did have the crests in revised NSE. Thanks again for the heads up.
@@d412video2 No worries, easy mistake to make. Still very much enjoyed it. I was fortunate enough to be on GB 2021 this year with the triple hoover run from Preston to Bescot, Absloutely fantastic.
Busted rings or tired bores ?
Not much maintenance by the end of 81!
@@d412video2 I was 10 in, 81' and stood on the platform at New Street Station stood next to a class 55 starting up . !!!! Absolutely sh##ing myself thought I would be sucked through the air intakes Shall never forget that sound never ever !!!!!
They always do that
Great video! I wish I had been a bit older and travelled about more to see the 50’s in action … but great to see videos such as this as it’s the next best thing! Many thanks for uploading 👍
Thanks for the feedback. Comments much appreciated! This was my favorite compilation to put together. Good memories.
Great set of videos, thanks for uploading. Good to see lots of original NSE livery which I prefer to the later version. Never saw these in action but do enjoy watching videos of them from the 80s.
Thanks for the comments, much appreciated. Good mixture of BR blue & NSE liveries on the locos & stock around the time I filmed most of this.
Fantastic collection of Vac Vids! Great quality and even better content 👌
Thanks for the comments, much appreciated!
Excellent, thanks for posting!
Thank you!
24 leaving padd with clag. How many times did you cough and splutter, complaining. 2021, give me a facial anyday. I might need to rephrase that🤭
