Indoor plant room, Isopods, Life and random things I think you may enjoy or I want to share.
I'm based out of Atlanta and built a plant room in my basement in 2020. I expanded into a tissue culture lab (currently shut down). In 2022, I started building terrariums and adding isopods in them. I've gotten more into that lately but still love my HUGE babies.

@@becca1868 Thank you, thank you. I’d like to thank my brothers’ for their nonstop freestyle battles growing up and my partner for always believing in me; without your support, I would have quit long ago. I want to thank my friends and family for cheering me on. Most importantly, I want to thank my kid for roasting me every chance he got and calling it “just being honest.” -holds 🏆 up - this is to all the plant people who have lost one of these finicky plants labeled easy and this is to all the plants that have suffered at our hands as we learn to grow them. I love you all thank you, thank you so much.
This is so sweet! Adore planty makeup girls!!!
@@beverlyhegmon3169 every time I go in my bathroom, I shed a tear for my makeup. I have so much and it like never gets used anymore. I love it though just need to find time to do it. I really don’t ever leave my house anymore and hate when nobody sees a cute look lol
Just found your channel. I also am from Atlanta. Great video. Keep up the good work.
@@insidethebricks5043 omg hi!!! Thank you! I’m trying to figure UA-cam out. Feel free to critique my videos. I just got a new mic so hopefully the sound quality will be better
I didn't see Jades mentioned! These are probably some of the easiest first plants as you can neglect them for ages but they will still survive and they can live for ever, literally decades and decades! Far from my first plants, but last week, I literally just bought the sale variety of croton and calathea that you showed in the video, oh and a begonia ferox too, just to make life really interesting - I've had a 2 out of 3 success rate with begonias so far. My maculata and Mambo are doing great but my Fireworks melted as soon as I brought it home. I also put my fittonia, just like the one in the video, into semi-hydro yesterday to see if it will do even better. I have done really well with my two alocasias so far but it's been bumpy, I'll admit. My Frydek is in semi-hydro now, my very first plant growing this way, and it's just taken off!
@@emmaplaysgreen2849 I didn’t see any jade at the store when I made this video like a year or so ago. I actually don’t see them hardly ever but I mostly stay in the tropical section. I still can’t keep crotons happy. I have a whole room set up like a greenhouse and everything and they just drop. My newest one has a single leaf lol. I’ve not tried the begonia ferox. Some say they’re easy and others say they’re hard. Begonia Rex are super easy but then there’s the darthvaderiana that even decades long begonia collectors have trouble with. I’ve noticed some of the begonias thrive in weird substrates. I have a 2 foot tall variegated begonia Ginny galaxy that has only thrived in ground up sphagnum moss mixed with perlite or straight water. If I try to add any type of soil, leca or pon, it immediately drops its leaves and melts. alocasia do great in semihydro until they get really mature and then they just kinda stop growing. Other than the spidermites being a huge issue, they aren’t too bad. Calathea are similar. I learned a lot about plants growing calathea in the beginning. They’re like peace lilies and tell you what they need. They also taught me what a spidermite infestation looks like lmao
Thank you for this video. You answered all the questions I had and I didn't even have to ask them. I'm in Tampa too and I am looking for low maintenance place to propagate for my community. Our insurance cost have soared so our funds for landscaping is limited.
@@cindyh8884 yay! I tried to think of all the questions I had in the beginning and what people have asked me previously. I didn’t want you to have to watch a 2nd or 3rd video to find the answer but I also didn’t want to make it too long 😅 I actually mostly live in Atlanta but we kinda have a house there too. It’s a long complicated thing. lol. I love your idea though! Here in Atlanta, there’s a bench on a lot besides someone’s home that people can go drop off and pick up cuttings for free. There also use to be a coffee shop that had a propagation station but I’m not sure what happened to them. We do swaps af a brewing company/bar and I could see one of the brewing companies in Tampa being interested in something like that. I’d pitch it to them as a marketing opportunity to get plant people to come in more often. Your library also may be interested in doing a community project too! I’d probably start with them first and then try the others. Yall have a lot of plant FB groups down there that may be able to give you more specific places.
@@cindyh8884 oh wow. I just reread your comment and realized I totally misread the last part of your comment 🫣🫠 I thought it said “you were looking for a place to propagate plants for the community” and not “you’re looking for low maintenance plants to propagate.” Disregard my whole last paragraph. lol. Obviously the devils backbone. Another plant I know grows year round down there is the golden pothos (aka the epipremnum aureum). I’d love to see other epipremnum growing as landscaping there like the snow queen or a Baltic blue. They’re just as easy and hardy. My friend lives in Lutz and grows All his Thaumatophyllum and monstera outside. I know the Thaumatophyllum can be a bit finicky to propagate but they get so massive. An easier alternative I think could grow out there with some protection is the philodendron giganteum and they are much easier to propagate. There’s also many different types of tradescantia and they’re easier to propagate than the devils backbone and are cheap. Alocasia are also hardy there but some of those can get pricey. To propagate those, you just pull of the corms and put them in a chunky mix until they sprout and then they can go in the ground. Sorry, I can go on all day. lol. I just love to chat plants! I’m actually working on editing a video at my friends house in lutz from a couple years ago. It’s not nearly as nice quality as this one but it may give you some other ideas what can grow year round there that isn’t common.
I was also at the auction and loved some of the plants you got, I don’t remember the names, looking forward to your haul video
@@NaylenGlez I just filmed it last night finally so it should be up soon 😊

why keep a plant that toxic tho
@@shannoncarr7338 great question. I think it’s just an interesting plant that I’d like to learn more about through growing. It goes dormant after being pollinated, has a bulb, puts off weird flowers and is very different than anything I currently have growing downstairs. I’m fortunate enough to have a plant room that’s closed off to everyone but me so I can safely grow it. My kids are adults and pets can’t access it. I do bring people into the plant room sometime but by then, I’ll have a sign on the pot and it on a shelf that’s hard to reach. I guess it’s similar to people that enjoy growing cacti; if you touch a cactus, you’re gonna get bit/pricked/hurt, but it’s still cool looking and interesting to grow. I’d also like to mention that most houseplants have some level of toxicity in them. Philodendron, alocasia, pothos, anthurium and other members of the aroid/araceae family have the same chemical it’s just not as concentrated as in this one. Some people do have a reaction to it in those plants but I personally do not. Dieffenbachia has high enough levels that a large percentage of people have the same reaction to it as they would to the plant I bought. My plant obviously has a higher concentration in the sap than any of those so everyone will get the reaction. Please let me know if that doesn’t make sense…I just woke up and my brain isn’t going yet.
I love this one!!
I thought it would be a fun video to put together and throw all my broll in it

When you mentioned whether either of these were better than organic fertilizer you said no… What organic fertilizer would you recommend?
@@jenniferhuff3623 the problem with organic is most organic fertilizer only have one nutrient. There are only a few that have multiple. I’ve been using Neptune’s harvest recently because it has the main 3 and a couple micronutrients too. That’s what I’d recommend simply because of that. It also doesn’t have a smell compared to other organics

Hey just a friend here who also takes care of Stefania you should place the codex directly on top of the substrate. Try not to bury it too much. This will help avoid rotting issues. Just a little tip
Thank you! I’ll fix it. When I got it, it was buried to that line you can see so I pulled it out. It didn’t do well so I buried it some but not as much as they had it buried. I think it needs repotted again so I’ll fix that and then I can keep it in the same pot.

@@RusticRaver hiii!!! I’ve always wanted to visit! Your country is so beautiful!
video's fine, playing in auto 720p. very nice house btw. I think, but I could be wrong, that youtube follows the same type of algorithm as FB: likes, comments, replies mean more engagement and that increases visibilty. try asking controversial questions and asking viewers their opinion? to generate more comments? and if you're lucky, generalized fighting :D
@@xTrengo thank you! For the fb algorithm, do you think it’s only your reels that are important or is it also when you comment and make posts? I ask because I still can’t figure out why they paid me so much the first month is did this. I didn’t really post anything on my personal page but I do comment on others posts especially in the plant groups. My partner also said to ask people controversial questions and people arguing in the comments was important. Even thinking about making people fight makes me feel terrible🤣
@@atlplantroom I never got paid anything, so I'm sure monetization has to be related to actual views and view length of your posted content, which explains why so many people copy and repost other people's content as if it was their own :) 20 million views must pay!
@@xTrengo are you set up as a digital creator profile?
