The Battle of Homestead Foundation sponsored the Homestead Cemetery Company event at the historic Pump House, Munhall, PA on September 26, 2024. Featured speakers, Kyra Mangold-Ostovich and Russ Firestone, spoke about the historical significance of the cemetery and related stories about the lives of those buried there.

I agree ..w MB...a beautiful story. My nephew is married to a woman from Mali. She and her brother were orphaned due to Aids as well. They were adopted by a Swiss woman and she came to the States to go to St.Mary's College in South Bend. Part of Notre Dame , I think.... I was Hooked when I heard Pachebel's Canon. My dad played violin a bit and would buy old ones and repair them also. Yeah...this touched me in a couple few different ways. Still, congratulations as Honorable Mention for ISA!! **I'd like to collaborate; as I've had an idea about how much more is needed for diversity for those with "other" abilities. I grew up with an older brother who sustained a spinal cord injury 50+ years ago.
I had the pleasure of meeting the author at the 2017 Derry, Pa. Railroad Days Festival and bought a copy of this book.
I am glad that you enjoyed the film. Joe has quite a story to tell and he brings to life the challenges that faced the hard working steel workers in the early 20th century, the strong family and ethnic ties that bound them together and the hobo life that many pursued to survive. Enjoy his book!!

I just met Mr. Szalanski this morning. He was very pleasant. He told me about this video and I was anxious to watch it, which I immediately did. Kelly Zidek was my uncle. He was the friend who traveled with Mr. Szalanski's father. I thoroughly enjoyed both the video and the book it was based on, "Boarding the Westbound".
