    Because it was stronger... they are still stronger. You call stud pilot what i call bud wheels which sucked because constantly the studs would come loose before the outter nut. But even just 20 years ago hub piolet rims would crack a lot under heavy loads... unless you bought quality rims (and no one buys quality over cost). And also most shops dont have a beer bottle around to help center the rim of a dayton wheel.... if otc makes a tool im sure its $1000 dollars.

      Yep Still going strong. I have a second mounted in my shop as well. I will admit I broke one of them but that was my own doing modify it to make it crush the cans flatter. It ran for a long while but developed a crack in where the handle attaches. Staying stock from now on.

    i use thyese all the time the only thing bad about this brand is the base cracks apart i have had to contact dial in dustries they sent me out 2 bases for free you can crush 16 ounce cans as well i dont use the part that holds the cans to slow for me i can put one in at a time it takes seconds to crush cans i can crush 100 in about 2 minutes

    The primary reason was because of the load bearing capabilities. Look at how the rim is supported by the hub. Look at the massive hub. Compare that whole setup to Budd rims. Relatively speaking, the Budd rims are flimsy.

    I've seen guys take off all the nuts, struggle to pull the wheel off only to have a cleat or the whole wheel come off with an explosive impact and wipe them out and I mean legs broken beyond just a cast and set back in place. We call them spiders or widow makers in Australia because they've literally killed people who weren't careful. I always leave the nuts on the end of the threads, stand to the side and give them a little tap with a hammer or rubber mallet. Even then they still pop 😂

    They had their advantages, the weight was on the hub instead of the rim and if off-road in and subject to lots of mud they did not fill up full of mud like bud wheels do .

    If you only had hand tools, they were a lot easier to do than stud pilot (budd) wheels. Mounted spares are lighter as well. Running an impact gun, it's a wash. And you can get tubless one-piece rims and tires to work on dayton hubs.

      Yes I would say so. The roll up is much easier to open and close. The building itself I don’t see much difference in quality overall. The price was about half of a pole building at the time I built. I only wish I had gone a bit bigger.

    Do not follow his workmanship. Forks are not made to be reheated or welded on. If he bent one fork, it was because he was misusing the forklift fork in the first place. This fork is no longer factory safe.

    • @everydayamerican2037
      @everydayamerican2037 Рік тому

      You’re probably right and the temper was likely lost/disturbed. I didn’t bend the fork I was just trying to make it useful again after it was loaned to friend. While it may not be “factory safe” the heat being so close to the end and the fact that it is only for my personal use I’m ok with that. I never claim to be a metallurgist or professional welder. I’m just an everyday American.
