Actually, on April 19th 1775 General Gage sent the best troops in Boston, the Light Infantry, Grenadiers, and Royal Marines to seize the ammunition stored in common at Concord. The guns, for the most part, were personal arms in the citizens homes. His orders were to dump the gunpowder in the river, carry off the musket balls "in your pockets" and scatter them along the road back to Boston. They were also to capture, or destroy, two small cannon reported to be there, but the MA Militia had already hidden those. You see there was no domestic gunpowder production in the Colonies, it was all imported from Britain. Each militiaman had enough on hand for about 25 shots. So if the Brits could get all the main stores of gunpowder away from the militia then after those 25 shots the militia would have clubs not muskets and rifles; and hence the militia would be effectively disarmed. The end result was the Militia responded to the British moves, and chased the British back to Boston in a near rout and the Revolutionary War had begun. The plan was brilliant and was proven at Bunker Hill in June 1775, where the dug-in militia held off two assaults by the British Army until on the third assault the Brits took the American positions via the bayonet when the Americans ran out of gunpowder. Lacking bayonets, the Americans fled but not before they inflicted about 50% casualties on the attacking British infantry: A loss rate considered a disaster in a 18th Century army. They tried the same in Virginia on April 21st, with more success, but ultimately the militia rose in response and the Crowns Governor Dunsmore was forced to flee, effectively ending British rule in Virginia. One of the BIGGEST contributions of the French to the Americans, before France formally entered the war, was the smuggling of gunpowder into the Colonies by a undercover firm in Spain, Hortalez et. cie. So the fact is that the Revolutionary War was indeed sparked by a British attempt at gun control and ultimately led to a free America and a Constitution containing a Bill of Rights with a citizen right to keep and bear arms in it.

Even though this event was 5 years ago, it still is the same Mayor Pete now and as someone stated, a promotion in 2020.

An all White group of children speaks more to Pence than it should to Mayor Pete. He needs to ask about the composition of his audience or panel to be sure that the group doesn't exclude diversity. It is amazing how frequently this occurs and how excluding White people are and think nothing of it. Take this video out and do a classroom with a diversified group of kids that will make your position on race fair and believable. Do you even see this as a problem? Baby step your way out of thinking White all the time and become a person who inherently sees a world that includes all God's children. The choices you are making for your image don't include people of color. You need to see the new documentary on Toni Morrison to get a clue on what life is like for people of color. I want to live in a color blind world and not the world you're forcing on usn as normal, in this video. Wake up America before your world ceases to exist because you're blind to everything, including climate change.

More of our candidates for publuc office should be asked to reflect publicly on the founding documents and principles of this country. The qualifications for most public offices are not much more than a birth certificate and a heartbeat. This is an excellent way to make children's voices heard. Thank you for posting this video. He respects children - no talking down or patronizing - he's an incredible human being - I thank him for stepping up to run. He has the stamina and the inspiration to do this. Pete, in my mind, already is president. The country simply has to wake up to this dream.

I have seen dozens of Mayor Pete interviews and rally vieoes but none are more telling about this man than this one. His backgound is fascinating. His ability to share his personal life and listening to others is exemplary. Very down to earth. He does not talk down to these inquisitive young people. He pulls no punches in his answers and is always respectful. Thanks for posting this video.

How come there's such a huge percentage of home-schooled kids chosen for this? Is this representative of South Bend? (Honest question from an uninformed European rather weirded out by the concept at first glance ;-) )

Mayor Pete makes this awkward kids' questioning so sweet. He is so good and patient. I wish he would really be the United States president and leader of the free world. We really need a guy like him right now.

Mayor Pete has my vote! He is amazing. He is just what our country needs. He is intelligent, articulate, erudite and gives sincere, well informed answers. Most importantly he doesn’t speak like a career politician. We need his intelligence, honesty and smarts! He is the future!

In the opening seconds the Pledge of Allegiance is recited, including the words "under God". Why is that? "under God" wasn't added to the Pledge until 1954. I appreciate everyone's efforts but If you're going to re-enact history, do it right!
