REVIEW: Craven Songbird Tenor Guitar
Buzuki tuning? Is this instrument customisable according to the seventh fret?
Love it! What tuning are you using?
That's not a tobacco sunburst finish! You got vanboozled!!!
I just saw this Wolf! Thanks for posting. I am so curious to know how your last 10 months have been going for you.
Not enough low end for who? lol. Sounds grand even with You Tubes audio video degradation. Would love to have it.
Hi Wolf I thought I recognised that tune from your Recording King Tenor guitar demo, I first heard it sung by the great Dick Gaughan from Scotland, check out his version, it's stunning, I think its from the album "A Handfull of Earth" but you'll find it on UA-cam. Cheers mate, greetings from the UK.
For a soft case i have bought one for 3/4 guitar , and it fits perfectly for my tenor . My tenor is a hand made imitation of the Fender teletenor, but with some different features . If you do not feel satisfied with your soft case , go on Thomann site , and buy one like mine . If you like to see my tenor, go on my channel, and search for " video for Astrogerry and Chuck guitars " . The video is spoken in italian and english languages . Greetings from Italy, Patrick
Nice song
Howdy!
I agree with you about the bridge. I used 10s & 11s tuned to DGBE - I often knocked the bridge out of place & found it difficult to get proper intonation. Everything else was good.
A friend of mine just bought one of these. I have owned a lot of high end guitars, and this tenor guitar plays and sounds like a much more expensive guitar than it is. Dave in Montana
As a baritone ukulele player, I find that most tenor guitar necks are too narrow, they have guitar string spacing instead of the wider ukulele string spacing. I struggle with the narrow string spacing.
Hi, Newbie guitarist here - could you explain what you mean about the neck being too deep? Thank you :)
miigwetch.thank you. A wonderful song.

Such a fun song! Love it!
Great to see people covering the Elders! They were, and still are, my favorite band since childhood!
Lá fhéile Pádraig sona dhuit!
Very cool. Love the tone.
Something about an instrument with that many holes in it makes me wonder. You where out rabbit hunting with your buds and the hare jumped into this yonder piece of wood so you blasted it several times, brought the hare and the wood home, eat the hare and cut some wire from the barn and nailed it onto the wood piece and been playing around town ever since as the holy man, hare less, night time, soober maybe, music man, right? Oh my God, I misspelled "without liquor! Let's see...
Looks nice, sounds good, just a bit anemic on the bass.
4 string guitars usually are a bit thin on bass response, when your low string is a D, you just don't get the deep resonance that you would with the low E
@@amberyooperOr in this case a G, he is in GDGD tuning.
❤❤❤so good thx thx you all ‼️‼️‼️
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Hey just picked one up yesterday and am waiting for it to arrive Wanted to ask if you could share what size of strings you used and can you recommend a brand Thanks…great review
James Keelaghan reportedly was inspired to write this song after reading a book on the event: " Young Men and Fire" by Norman McLean, who also wrote " A River Runs Through It".
I’m a uke player I wrote a whole new demo on a baritone ukulele but I want a fuller sound for my demo, the baritone uke just is too airy for this demo I want a much fuller sound will be adding drums and bass to it. I play folk pop stuff. Will be playing in dgbe like a baritone uke. Was between this and the ibenez one but I think this one sounds better. I’ve been playing a modded short scale guitar to electric baritone ukulele Conversion for some time but really want that acoustic steel string tone.
Sounds to tinny to me
Is this a solid spuce top?
I believe so... www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/000D307TTS
@@wololocoThanks, will ask a sales person there. it is stated as spruce but not solid spruce. no worries, thanks for taking the time to reply and the videos.
@@romelmadrayart ever find out? My guess is laminated. I didn't find anything about "solid"
@@bilbowaggins3036I never used a tenor guitar, and there are none available where I am located and importing them would make it impossible for me to afford. So I decided not to think about getting one. So i am not investigating any further on getting any. They seems interesting as an upgrade to a Baritone ukulele. Thanks for the reply and the tutorials and reviews
@@bilbowaggins3036 It's all laminated...but look, even ikea is probably impressed at what they put together for the price here.
Cool!
One of my favorite songs that you play! ❤
I really love this song, favorite song off Sheep’s Clothing album! ❤
I just purchased one - haven’t gotten it yet - I use GDAD tuning. Definitely want that tuning. Can you tell me what strings you used?
Here are the tuning and string gauges I use... G2 - .042w D3 - .028w a3 - .018w d4 - .012p
really like the sound! I have a Harmony tenor guitar that I’ve hardly played until recently. I tried to post a fuller story about it, but UA-cam barfed and wouldn’t take my comment. check out ua-cam.com/users/howlinhobbit and the tune *Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out* should be towards the top of listings. it’s the first “public performance” I’ve done on the tenor. it’s tuned DGBE so the shapes match what I play on my ukuleles.
Wow I remember seeing you online in the early 2000s when I started learning to play (ukulele ) after giving up guitar. Great playing !
@@SLP0101 thanks!
Such a cool resonator. I wonder how it'd sound with a bottleneck slide.
Love it! I would love to hear what it sounds like with DGBE tuning! That case ROCKS along with the resonator guitar!! I would definitely buy this one, if I could!! I like the brass body but I don't really like the distressed look! I looked at it on their site and frankly it looks like someone cleaned it with AJAX and did not get all the cleaner off! But that's just me! I would like the brushed brass look instead and would love to have a choice, especially for the price! I really do love the leather case...awesome!! Cindy
I love the decorative abalone against that black...oh and the guitar sounds fine also. I still would get the Recording King & a hard case and it would still be cheaper than this one! Really NICE custom case!! I play a baritone ukulele so I like the baritone wider neck!
This one has a really full body sound....I wish it came stock with a pickup! But I am definitely getting myself one of these guitars!
The problem is now you can't even find one used or new...I checked with Sweetwater and they are on backorder and aren't due in until Dec 7....BUMMER! I guess I'm just going to HAVE to WAIT!! Not something I do well 😞 Cindy
I didn't really notice much difference in any of the selections....maybe because the bridge pickup and neck pickup are so close together....Maybe it's just my imagination. This observation was based on the very first test you did. Cindy
*Beautiful work! A Semi-Hollow 12 string conversion to **_All Unison_** 8 string, (with four courses in unison pairs, like the B and High E courses on a 12 string, but NOT like the **_Root/Octave_** Low E, A, D, & G courses), could be a logical next step.* P.S. Take good care of that girl of yours... Hookin' you up with a guit-fiddle like that? Yep... She's a keeper', bro!
A couple or three years ago Fender did have a Tenor Telecaster in their Alternate Reality Series. I don't think it was in the catalogue for long though and I remember them selling off the last few for a ridiculously low price.
I had one for a short while, but discovered that the body is significantly smaller and neck significantly shorter. What I really wanted was a full bodied Tele with 4 strings...so that's what I ended up doing.
That sounds really nice, especially the neck imho. Are the remaining strings still tuned to E standard, minus top and bottom E? Ah its GDAD? beautiful. And.. is there anything a telecaster can't do?
Tuning and string gauges I'm using... G2 - .042w D3 - .028w a3 - .018w d4 - .012p
@@wololoco thanks for the follow up!
Nice
Hi there.... I already have an old Martin OT-18 from 1929, and two Ibanez Tenor guitars... a parlor AVT-1 NT and a mini Dreadnough E/A AVT2 E-NT... I wonder How this Recording King would compare with the Ibanez guitars (volune and tone/sound)? I woud appreciate you comment...
I haven't seen or played the Ibanez version, so I'm not sure. I have played other Ibanez acoustic and electric guitars for years (one was a 6-string Talman converted to an 8-string bouzouki), and I've always liked their necks and the fit and finish. The Recording King compares favorably with the other Ibanez guitars I've played over the years.
I have heard from a comparison that someone did on youtube listing the top 5 tenors for 2023....I think their heading says the top 7 but they only tell you about 5....HMMMM! I think there were two Ibanez tenors, Kmise Tenor, Blueridge Tenor (yeah if you can afford that one 😞, and the Recording King Tenor.
Nice!!!!
I've had mine for 1/2 a year now and it's a great sounding little beater for the money. It's come off it's stand several times ... it's tough! Great to take along for a trip. Mine was set up real good with low action. I would recommend it for a budget guitar!
Sounds really nice! I play a Blueridge (DGBE) and love it. I’d consider picking one of these up if they added a pickup system.
I have a 1931 national triolian long scale tenor guitar for sale at my store if you're interested.
Nice
