Workshop Series: Retro ATX Case Restoration (easy fix!)
Please don't throw away ugly old faded cases! They can be brought back to look like new.
In this short video I restore a very poor retro ATX case, bought for very little off eBay. Originally made in the late 90's, it had badly yellowed plastic parts and the painted metal cover was also pretty tired.
It is easy and cheap to repair something like this if you know what to do.
I hope this video helps you restore your own computer cases back to their original glory!

Windows XP in 2024: Why it's so good (and what you can do with it)
Переглядів 74 тис.9 місяців тому
This video briefly introduces the Microsoft Windows product line starting in 1985 through to it's absolute peak (imo) - Windows XP. Some examples of the kind of programs that it can run are provided, including discussion and demonstration on using it on the modern web in 2024. Also includes the original XP advert from 2001, and a clip of a 1985 spoof advert for Windows 1.01 acted out by Steve B...
5.25" & 3.5" Floppy Disk Drive, SCSI, DVD and Zip Support in Windows 10 & 11 (not Grease Weasel)
Переглядів 6 тис.10 місяців тому
This video shows a retro-styled PC that I've put together that can access 5.25" disks, 3.5" disks, Iomega Zip disks, Optical Disks (CD&DVD), SCSI Drives, USB media and online cloud storage, all through Windows 11 (also tested and works fine in Windows 10). All of the above types are accessible as direct folders in Windows 11, not as binary images mounted through scripts. This machine can boot t...
The Ultimate Sleeper Build PC
Переглядів 7 тис.11 місяців тому
This machine was put together quite innocently to be my daily driver - before I'd even heard of the term Sleeper PC. The case was manufactured in 1997 and was probably originally intended for a server. Inside are two 18 core Xeons with 256gb of Ram, a 15k SAS Raid Array and a 3080ti graphics card. The display is a massive 22" CRT with a Diamondtron tube. This video shows the finished machine an...

This smart little Pentium III Brio from Hewlett Packard hides twin 3DFX Voodoo2 graphics accelerators running in SLI to provide excellent and smooth gaming to a range of 90's classic titles. This short video shows the inside of the machine, close ups of the graphics cards and actual recordings taken from the analogue RGB outputs. All components of this PC date from the late 1990's, as does all ...
The IBM Super Keyboards of the 1980's (Model F, Model M and Battleship Keyboards)
Переглядів 401Рік тому
IBM set out on a long and expensive journey of research to develop the ultimate keyboard design - and succeeded. Nothing made before or since quite measures up to the undisputed king of keyboards... the F Type - and it's slightly younger sibling... the M Type. This video is a short and nerdy explanation of how they came about from their already legendary Beam Spring patent, along with some simp...
The Optical Super Mice of the 1980's (MSC PC Mouse and Q500 Digital)
Переглядів 198Рік тому
Back in the 1980's and the first part of the 1990's, I thought all mice were mechanical until I chanced upon an MSC optical mouse on a Unix workstation. Today all mice are optical, but 40 years ago they were very specialised. In this video I talk a little bit about the mice of the time, and present three different vintage optical mice from my collection: MSC Mouse Systems PC Mouse (from cirra 1...
Retro Time-warp Pentium - What can it do today?
Переглядів 7 тис.Рік тому
This desktop Pentium system looks as good as the day it was put together, which maybe isn't surprising, given that it was built only a week prior to this video being made. Most of the parts are new-old-stock finds from dusty tech stock cupboards. System Specifications: CPU: Intel Pentium4 3ghz from 2004 with Hyperthreading Motherboard: Something from that period. 1xPCIe-16 and 2xPCI Ram: 2x1GB,...
Nvidia Tesla K20x - What can it do in 2022?
Переглядів 2,3 тис.Рік тому
The Nvidia Tesla K20x was a monster of a card back in 2012 and cost an eye-watering $7,699. Its massive Kepler GPU and 6gb of DDR5 memory promised, and delivered, top tier processing capability for its day. Nearly ten years on, these cards are now almost worthless. GPU architecture has advanced at such a staggering pace that these cards were hopelessly outclassed even before their warranties ha...
Unboxing a 286 "Book" PC and testing

A small portable 286 computer arrives in the post. Here I open the package, power it up, have a look whats on the hard disk and they open the case to see the inner components. This video has actually moved over from my other channel @TheAmazingAdventuresOfMiles as it's more relevant here.
I'm still using Windows XP Pro SP3 for serious purposes, not so much for online browsing though and on fully hardware optimised and upgraded computers (Thinkpads a favourite choice). Any Windows OS can be hacked and good user practices will protect you on XP or older (yes I use Win98SE too!). An excellent constantly updated browser that works well with modern sites is Supermium based on Chromium. Very lightweight on resources too, so well worth using on newer versions of Windows after XP, if like me you are fed up with the bloat and resource hogging of modern browsers etc.
put that online and it won't be long before some broadcast virus/scanner finds it.
Peaked with xp? What didnt you like about 7?
To connect xp to the internet it may be good to use virtualization
Pretty much anything you can do today, just using different software. Also, there are companies which sell computers running xp on modern hardware. Finally XP did not go down when Crowdstrike hit.
thank you bro!!!
Watching this on laptop with i3-330m, 2gb ram and windows xp
What game is that in 7:32?!! The graphic is so good! If it can run even on XP that means the game is very well designed !
Back in the days before bloatware, spyware and Microsoft stealing users data. It was a simpler time.
Windows XP can use up to 64GB of memory with modified NT kernel. Please search "Using more than 4GB of RAM on Windows XP 32bit" or similar keywords in UA-cam to see how to refresh your experience with good-old-but-better Windows XP. Not all old 32-bit applications and games can run on 32-bit Windows 7 or 64-bit Windows 7-11, that's why I still use Windows XP today. I personally now have 16GB RAM working with Windows XP 32-bit OS to watch UA-cam, while simultaneously surfing the web with Mypal browser, reverse engineering some old applications and games, trying to remake old apps/games to fit modern computer hardware environment, and even running 32-bit Windows 7 through virtual machine. Larger RAM is a must for me and be helpful to fit my need. Using the modified NT kernel might encounter some bugs, such as running some apps or app installers could cause errors or quit unexpectedly. Keeping the original script in c:\boot.ini is a good idea, so that one can switch back to old original NT kernel in next boot to avoid some problems with modified NT kernel. There is modified NT kernel for 32-bit Windows XP, and certainly there also exists modified one for 32-bit Windows 7. I do have fun and am satisfied to use 32-bit Windows XP and 7 with 16GB RAM.
I remember Microsoft Encarta
I love Windows XP and I still use it in a VM a few times per week. I installed and activated that Windows XP Home in a VirtualBox VM in March 2010. I use it mainly to play the wma copies of my CDs and LPs with WoW and TrueBass effects. The XP VM has 768MB and it has Firefox ESR 52.9 installed, but I only use it to download new versions of applications from IObit, Microsoft or Google. The activated XP VM survived 2 VBox owners; 3 Desktops and 4 CPUs and it runs now in the latest VirtualBox 7.1.2.
XP was quite good, but imho Win2000prof and 7 a bit better, those 2 at least have almost zero "blue screens" for me (but I care for my sys ofc too)
its a shame they dont continue support for xp its microsofts best os by far ,all the new 8/10/11 is just trying to be a mobile phone with loads of adds thats why ill never use any of them my phone is a phone and my pc is a pc i dont want spy or add ware you can stick it.
Dead nuts simple tutorial! Hope to see another video from you real soon.
Yep, XP was their BEST OS, even at that time, it was the best. I still remember getting a VISTA Laptop and "downgrading" it to XP. It was SOOO much faster and just good. Now I'm wanting to do the same with Windows 11 to a Laptop, going back to 10, but don't know if I can, don't have the time yet. The loss of the proper Start Menu and the someone's Personal Theme with the Explorer Menu Bar (not made for the masses) keeps me from switching to 11.
So… it can run Crysis apparently 😳
I still maintain this HP Mini 311 with Windows XP, often using it for old games, music, and basic tasks. It even has a small chunk of nvidia graphics to help games run a lot better.
Great video... I have used all Microsoft systems and at that time each one was useful and good. Some have brought news and improvements and some have not. But you were definitely forced to buy a new computer and a new system because the hardware and software companies decided so. Today I still use XP every day and have a set of programs that complete my work. I never got around to playing games… And I also every day use Win7 and Win10 because I have to. Each of them is useful, but XP is the best for me because it does not burden me either mentally or hardware-wise. Honestly, the XP computer is with lowest specs but works best. Newer Windows are nicer and more demanding, but they are almost no better, because here after 20+ years I still can't write text faster and more beautifully in Word, Excel or process a photo in PhotoShop or draw something in AutoCad, even though they are the latest versions of those programs. In fact, it's the other way around, the newer the software, the slower it works. All those programs are packed with options that most people don't really use, so there is almost no progress compared to software from the 2000s. Not to mention bloatware. The limiting factor here is user. Here, my W10 computer works like a tractor compared to my XP computer. XP is like a Ferrari, a little bit square but flies and does its job much better... I've tried MacOS, various Linux versions and... well, it's all ok, everything can be configured but it's all too much bullshit, it's all kind of screwed up... It's the same thing with today's programming languages. Once you see how easy programs are made in Visual Basic 6, then you ask yourself why you use Java, C++, Python and other crap... I am most sorry that Microsoft did not continue with development of Visual Basic 6, because it was relatively easy and fast to write a programs which will solve a lot of problems for users. Admittedly, I still use VB6 and the programs also work on W10/W11, but they don't look very beautiful... Good stuff is XOJO, B4A and GAMbas though not quite as VB6. It is known that XP also worked on other processors (PPC), but I am interested in when the ARM version will appear... That would be interesting to see...
6:01 good!! lol
Very good & helpful video. I am planning to put together an old machine with 5.25, & 3.5 inch floppy drives using an old Compaq Deskpro and Windows 98. I am not pitching for Windows 11 though lol. Although I used floppy drives a lot in my younger days, I had forgotten how the twist in the ribbon cable determines the drive letter. Thanks for the reminder
We've really went backwards. I actually really enjoyed 7 and the aero theme, was such a great OS, but as much as it was functional and feature rich, it also didn't feel like XP. I too have a dedicated XP gaming rig and it's bliss ( ;) ) to say the least, the best operating system hands down. For XP, I recommend MyPal web browser instead, more up to date than the ones listed.
Love your channel🎉
I've been using XP 64bit for over 21 years and I have never been hacked into. Awhile back I was using Windows 7 for about 2 months and I got hacked into with a backdoor right after receiving the latest Micro$oft security updates 2 weeks prior. I discovered that all hackers and virus's are not interested in XP or VIsta, they are all after Windows 7 to Windows 11. So now I run Linux for all my online purchases, financial payments etc. I still use XP for internet browsing, downloading mods for Oblivion and Skyrim, Watching UA-cam videos, getting on facebook and Tiktok. I don't watch Netflix or Amazon prime anymore since that dropped support for Microsoft Silverlight and want me to downgrade my system to Windows 10 to watch their content, No Thank You. I'm content with Windows XP.
"why it's so good" it's fucking not though, xp wasn't even good when it was still supported, people are just fucking stupid and are afraid of change, now windows 8.1, THAT was a good OS, frankly it's the ONLY good OS
7 is best (for Windows). Get over it. Also, simply connecting XP (not even browsing) is enough to get infected.
Great video! One of my early jobs in IT we had a lot of these, always liked the compact size and styling. I still have one of the power supplies, and it still works :)
hope you have a good firewall man cuz the russians are already in
Great video! I might get a Windows XP soon and I'll comment again on this vido whenm I have XP. This video was cool and explains what XP can and cannot do. Thanks BoomerTec
I have a 2012 Lenovo ThinkCenter M92 with a Core i5 3rd Gen, 24GB of RAM and an SSD. 1GB onboard video. It runs XP Professional x64 with SATA support. A PCI-e WiFi card that supported XP x64 was purchased (drivers on a CD!!!) and all drivers and software for the video, my scanner and printer were available. Superium (Chromium) browser because IE 8 is just too old for a modern internet. I am behind a router and not visible on the household network but I will install the free version of AVG though it doesn't really give the protection of a full (paid for) suite. Oh, I'm not a gamer, but I did install Wheel Of Time that I found in with some old CDs (belongs to my son) LOL.
Is that the song from family guy
i use windows xp from 2014 til today - since 10 years 2005-2014 i used windows 2000 - 9 years 1999-2005 i used windows nt4 - 6 years 1996-1999 i used windows95 - 3 years
2 best browsers for xp Ive found are MYPal68 and Supermium
I put an $20 250GB SSD in my XP machine and loads very quickly now.
My mind exploded when I saw Crysis running smoothly on this machine. Im just in the middle of building myself a WinXP overkill machine with Haswell CPU and GTX 960 so its good to know I wont be bottlenecked :)
I wouldn't bother with the GTX 960, I would get either the 970, 980, 980 Ti or the Titan X. All the Nvidia 900 series is based on the Maxwell GPU. You can download the latest Nvidia driver that works in XP for the GTX 960, then use 7-zip to decompress the driver package and enter a few lines in the "ini" file to add support for the 970, 980, 980Ti and Titan X and your good to go. That's what I did and I was so happy to get rid of that slow HD7870 card.
Most of the people I hear who speak so fondly of XP, never used it pre SP1 where it was worse than Vista, as at least Vista worked even if the terrible 32bit version was slow and clunky (which is the version most people I know experienced) and most of the XP drivers worked on vista, unlike XP where even if the 9X or even W2K drivers worked, they seemed fond of showing how the system rebooted or the BSOD. XP was atrocious with anything less than 1GB of RAM and pre SP1, it was a buggy mess where like with 32bit vista, most people I knew went back to their previous OS as it was not a buggy mess. I knew plenty of people who had 256MB and 512MB new XP PCs from the likes of PC world and the like, and they ran worse than 9X PCs even post SP1, proving that minimum spec mean it will run, it doesn't mean it will run well. Lol I remember ME being more reliable at the time, it was that buggy and unreliable, and probably why I remember ME more fondly as I had XP to compare it to and stuck with it it until SP1 where I built a PC with all officially supported XP components and 2GB, just to make sure, and even then it dual booted. If XP had not been around for so long that it had time to be optimised as well as it finally was, I doubt it would be remembered that fondly. Luckily that time as the main OS on the market had it progress into something pretty decent, but It does amuse me to hear of it spoken of so fondly, while ignoring that first 18 months (likely as few had to deal with people bring you their computers for "repair" as they ran so bad and crashed all the time, and it was always down to XP pre SP1, and less than 1GB of RAM). Its kind of like how people speak of Windows 7 next to Vista, when the only noticeable difference between Vista 64bit and Windows 7 64bit, and the reason why I upgraded to 7, was less updates to install out of the box, performance wise it was seemingly a reskin.
its still better than Intel atom craps like N270💀
Also, REAPER the DAW works amazingly with XP with those old VSTs
Hey @BoomerTec which Motherboard is this? I got a Dual Socket 604 Motherboard (2 of them actually) and they're a pain to figure out. Proprietary PSU's, Proprietary Heaksinks, what a mess. I got a HP XW6200 Workstaion Board, and the Dell Poweredge 1800 board, even got the PSU's and heatsinks and they're still not wanting to power on LOL. I'm going to stop while I'm ahead on that Socket 604 road, I just wanted to throw those Xeon L7455's in there and have a badass 12core rig for Windows XP/7/maybe 10
Hey! I have K-Meleon, but everything is oversized on my screen. How do I fix it?
I tried that browser and found it did not work properly at all. So I tried a few more and Supermium works really well and is updated all the time.
I would recommend Betacraft launcher! (From omniarchive) Multimc doesn't worked for me, it was unable to start the game. I am rocking a pentium 4 with 1 gigs of ram
I like your rtx 4090 ti ROG edition ❤❤❤
Just search for the Video "Please NEVER Connect Windows XP To The Internet..." and you wont install Windows XP.
An enjoyable video! 👍👍 I used Pentium 4 computers for over a decade and they did the job.
An impressive rig!👍👍
Deepfreeze at some point might be helpful for old OS. To make it stable and recoverable same as a internet cafe machine. Every restart will be from it's "recovery point"
Recently revived my old XP laptop to do some legacy gaming
With a 3rd party firewall and antivirus you will be fine, no one should run any windows OS without those.
oh this is the motherboard thats supposed to be quad channel ram, from AliExpress X99 Motherboard Huananzhi X99-F8D PLUS v1.2 but seems more like dual channel to me.
Cool Spec of a CRT doesnt get much better than that, and is in keeping with the look of the pc, would look out of place with a modern monitor parked next to that biege retro pc.
