Tanfield Railway
Приєднався 26 лют 2014
Tanfield Railway is the World's oldest railway, dating back to 1725. Join us for an unforgettable journey on a vintage steam train with unique Victorian carriages and lovingly restored locomotives, for a three-mile trip through the beautiful rolling countryside and spectacular wooded valley.
Dating back to 1725, a whole century before the Stockton and Darlington Railway, the line was built to transport coal from collieries in the Tanfield area to the River Tyne for shipment - fuelling the nation and the world!
Today the railway - rebuilt, maintained and operated by dedicated volunteers - is a showcase for the North East's rich railway heritage. Experience steam locomotives built by legendary Tyneside concerns such as Robert Stephenson & Co, carriages just like those that carried miners to and from work and waggons that took coal on its journey from the Great Northern Coalfield to the world!
Steam trains operate every Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday throughout the year.

The History and Restoration of Horden
Переглядів 2,9 тис.4 роки тому
The extensive restoration of 116-year-old steam locomotive Horden is nearing completion at the Tanfield Railway. Built by Andrew Barclay & Sons in Scotland, Horden was built new for Horden Collieries Ltd in County Durham, delivered there in 1904. At that time, Horden colliery didn't have mainline rail access, so the locomotive was delivered to the nearby Shotton station and then moved a track p...
Tanfield Railway... why celebrating our 300th anniversary in 2025 is so important!
Переглядів 1,3 тис.4 роки тому
In 2025 we celebrate our 300th anniversary, the first working railway to do so! We are really excited and have big plans... including special events and recreating a section of wooden waggonway at Causey. As we're not running trains at the moment, due to the coronavirus pandemic, we worry that some of these plans may not go ahead. With your support, we can change that. Mark, one of our voluntee...

An amazing improvement to the old rusted engine depicted in the photos. It looks fine and is a welcome addition to Tanfield's industrial engines. It certainly looks great when working on the heritage railway.
Great to see our old coach being restored
Doesn't have to be copper pipe and bronze flanges though does it?. Id just do it out of steel. You can't see them and steel pipes will be just as functional as copper but cheaper.
The efforts / work by all involved is absolutely outstanding. I was at Tanfield yesterday and recorded quite a few video clips of Horden, here's the link for all those who might want to see up to date clips of the magnificent steam locomotive. ua-cam.com/video/B79tj7AmbxU/v-deo.html
another one to visit, just a note from a future punter , keep the souvenir prices to reasonable level , WE BUY MORE THEN . was at the SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY the other day ,and didnt buy a thing ,because the prices were so high , shame as we like to our station sign fridge magnets etc for each station we have visited , every other station we visited £2.50 SVR £4 WE want to support all our steam heritage , we appreciate all the hard work the volunteers do ,and what goes into making our days so fantastic .keep up the good work ,and hope to put Tanfield on our itinerary for our next road trip .
One thinks of the last horse shunters being retired in the mid-1960s and if it was not for the absence of iron-plated wooden rails, not much would seem to have changed.
You really should do these video updates on a regular basis. Would be marvellous.
We would but nothing much intresting is happening right now.
Sir Topham Hatt the Railway Controller.
All Aboard. All Aboard. Enjoy the ride.
You're a really useful engine.
Do the trains still take people to Sunniside station or is that out of use? Sorry if this is a dumb question.
Yea, they are back running to sunnyside.
Great drawings, where did you find them? Great video, very informative. I am studying this subject for a presentation the starts with wooden railways and ends with the Liverpool and Manchester Railway opening. The history you cover is indeed important. Thanks.
I sent in a application to volunteer here can’t wait
Nice
cool
Keep up the great work!
Great work everyone! Keep the videos coming!

Excellent history lesson of this locomotive. Incredible work by the Tanfield volunteers to restore it .thank you.

Frankly we cannot have enough Barclays running, and Horden is a stunning example.
Wow! What a stunning locomotive! When will Horden be on regular services?
its on now, bloody marvellous sight, believe it started 2 weeks back
Yeah! Luckily on Saturday I’ll be riding behind it!
Covid-19 it's Covid_19 Coronavirus is a group of SEVEN different Viruses including Common Cold and Seasonal Flu
I have a question regarding another locomotive, apparently you guys own a Tasmanian railways m class steam locomotive, is this true
Moving an engine like that must have been insane!! Would love to have seen that. :-) Great work guys!
Can we buy our usual annual ticket for use when there railway reopens?
Hi, you will be able to purchase these in the usual way yes. Many thanks
