About Six Acres Homestead
United States
Приєднався 11 січ 2023
Empty nesters starting the homesteading journey in East Texas after selling our suburban home of 15 years. We plan on sharing how we become more self sufficient in growing our food, caring for the land, and raising farm animals - goats, chickens, geese. Learn with us, celebrate with us, and at times struggle with us as we follow God's calling to be good stewards of the land and strive to provide a legacy for our son.

We are very optimistic even though we are a week behind from last year's spring garden prep. This video focuses on our seed starting station which is a repurposed hydroponic tent. It's our third year using this system and we love how it's worked for us.
Identifying a seed starting space is the first step in getting prepared...In the absence of a greenhouse, we've seen people use their dining room table, a spare room, or space in their garage or attic.
Can't wait to get seeds in there!
We mentioned our friends Lisa & Ryan who had an epic 2024 garden & harvest. Here is the @YogiHollowFarmvideo with all the details:

Переглядів 439 годин тому
The last day of 2024 and it's a great time to look back one last time! We came into 2024 with many goals. Now we can certainly do a show and tell, but we thought we would discuss a little further so we're playing a game to answer: 1. Which project are we most proud of? 2. Which project do we wish we had put off? 3. Which project was so easy, we can't believe you waited? 4. How difficult was kid...

Making your own soap is much easier than you think. Learning this homestead skills was one of our goals for 2024 and we were thrilled to be able to make a couple of batches. In this video, we make our first batch of Goat Milk Soap! We created the recipe on soapcalc.net. We used a 1:1 ratio of distilled water to lye and then used frozen goat milk in place of the remaining water quantity. If usin...

Thank you, sweet friends! I know it could have been sped up, but I love watching their dynamic as Josh and Nick work GREAT together. They are such a big blessing. Good job on your soap, I had no idea that lye was drain cleaner. Such a helpful video thanks
I had no idea on lye either until Nick and I went to the homestead co-op soapmaking class. Thank you for watching and commenting! Happy New Year!
Great job friends! We do our lye and water the same way jar for lye and mix outside. My friends have used a mixture of alcohol and water sprayed to reduce soda ash residue. I have not had that issue so wonder if it is a humidity thing. So thrilled with what you made as a family! I want to make lard soap using the back fat we harvested recently. Hoping to get started on that soon
Thank you so much! Goat Milk Soap is something we couldn't wait to make. The alcohol tip is a great one! This time we didn't have issues with soda ash but we watched the temperature closely. I can't wait to see your lard soap. We hope to make tallow soap in 2025. Thank you for your constant encouragement!
I love the video the music es very happy and Nick and Josh working together is very nices❤❤❤ God bless you

Awww❤ Your chicks eat healthier than me 😂😂❤❤
😂😂😂 Some of them are still molting so we've been trying to get them extra protein any way we can.
You are a true artist. Your scoring is inspirational! Thank you for the tips! Scoring is something I struggle with because I never know how far to cut
Thank you so much! It is a little bit of trial and error in the beginning to play with how deep to cut. I've gotten a "little" but better at gauging it though I still keep practicing on getting and even 1/4 inch or so deep expansion score.
Woah! It stayed! You did a great job. That's not easy to do!
Thank you so much! 😊 It was a lot of fun to do
