Daz Studio Challenge: My DIM Always Wants to Update!!!
Hello NFTW, awesome tutorial as always, straightly clear, also for a non-native speaker, like me. Little question: for a mine personal project, I have to deform/move a plant foliage. In your personal knowledge/experience, it's possible doing that kind of "work" on a part of a prop with Exagon? Thanks
Thanks for the comment. If your foliage had a lot of polygons you should be able to pose it the same way as Milica.
Can you make a video about realistic skin textures like moles, freckles, veins?
Interesting topic. Moles would not be to difficult to make and they have freckle textures for purchase in Daz Studio. The tricky request is vein textures. I have had this request before and it is challenging. I'll look further into it.
I really appreciate this series on Hexagon, which I never thought of using. The one frustrating thing is that--as great as this is with the ability to save the morph for the clothing--holy mackerel, this takes a long time, especially with poke-through! I really wish Daz clothing would make it easier to do things like this within the program. I mean, between this and using dForce, that's a lot of time spent before you even THINK of rendering. Not a complaint to you....just venting about Daz, in general!
That was an excellent tutorial. Very good and calm explanations and Milica was very playful, so also good entertainment, thank you very much Sir... 👌😀
You are welcome!
Cool video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This really is a great series. Thanks, you've inspired me to reinstall Hexagon and try it again. I gave up on it a long time ago but at the time I had no idea you could do stuff like this, in fact I'm not sure anyone has ever done a tutorial that explains it so well.
Thanks! I always try to give good information along with showing something interesting. I appreciate the comments!❤
Thank you for continuing to use Hexagon. I bought the Mesh Grabber Bundle, but I heard in a previous video that it crashes and becomes unusable. Because of that, I have never used it. What prompted you to use Heagon? Is it because you can't use Mesh Grabber? I'm sorry if I'm wrong.
Hey! Thanks for the message. I use mesh grabber all the time and have never had a big problem with it at all. I think you will be okay using it. I've made several tutorials using mesh grabber. I like it a lot for certain things but discovered Hexagon by accident and discovered it can create a permanent morph for the pose, which I like very much as you can use it again and again, something that mesh grabber doesn't have. It also looks like mesh grabber is now only going to be offered for Daz Premier and unavailable unless users already have purchased it. I thought everyone should know Hexagon, although old, is a viable alternative.
@@notfromthisworld7672 Thank you for your quick reply. Hmm, I think I bought it before 4.23. I wonder if I can use it? I also found that Hexagon 2.5 is surprisingly multifunctional, light, and easy to use. However, I don't really know what to do with UVs. Thank you for making a video that shows the collaboration between Daz studio and Hexagon.
@user-PayWorld Any script or plug in you bought from Daz before 4.23 will work just fine in 4.23. They pulled some items like Render Queue 3 out of the Daz store ( So they can add something similar to Premier) but mine is working just fine. Mesh grabber as well. You will be good to go. I haven't played with UV's in Hexagon. I'll need to use it more!
I'm gonna have to try this. Thanks for the vid.
It is pretty cool. There are more adjustments you can do, but overall I love adjusting clothes with Hexagon.
Anyone else have a hard time paying attention to what he was saying.? Milica is a little too distracting.
@@danmathewson7621 😍😍😍
Great vid again, and just in time for the weekend so plenty of time to play!
Hope this comes in handy! I enjoyed working with Milica on this project!
Thanks again! 💥 You've shown the importance, and the usefulness, of the Weight-map element!! 👍👍
It is a wonderful asset in both Hexagon and daz.
That's very useful. I do stuff like that in 3D Studio. The way it's bulging is the inverse of what you want though. Does Hexagon have a falloff node? I suspect it will have. This will enable you to set a variable level of effect depending upon the distance from the selected vertices or polygons. By selecting this, you can adjust the falloff distance to create a more subtle blend to the stationary material. In your case you might select say, three rows of polygons, and allow falloff to handle the rest.
As far as I can tell, there is not a falloff node in Hexagon. If I'm wrong, please let me know!
@@notfromthisworld7672 Sorry, not familiar with the program. <snip> just downloaded the program, it appears to be in the panel on the right. Activate the soft selection button, then set the selection radius which is the area of influence. The softness determines the falloff rate.
A very good approach to demonstrate Hexagon - straight into using it instead of getting lost in describing its functions. I'm looking forward to today's video. 👍 Just one remark, there is a product called "dForce Magnet" in the DAZ store which allows you to do the cloth lifting you demonstrated without stretching the geometry. I'm using it with clothing with intricate patterns which would show "stretch marks" otherwise.
Thanks for the message. I'm planning on making a tutorial on d-force magnet as well.
Yup i agree this is the best tut for v21 for ghostlights! TX!
@@PaithanNL 😲 thanks!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
for me, it works fine if u put clothes and hair on one Genesis character from another Genesis character, for example to G8 from G9 or opposit, usually a window pops up or u just right click and press "fit on to" and the window should say something like "what character was this originally made for?" if u put G9 hair or clothes on a G8 u just chose that it was made for G9 and it should adjust it correctly for that character. atleast it works fine for me so i dont need rssy and all that.
It is getting easier with the scripts you can purchase!
There are many autofit addon packs from Sickleyield and Riversoftware. I use M4 V4 G1238 MF clothing on all. I use G38MF the most. NEVER going to buy G9. HATE DFORCE. The future it is AI anyway.
AI will have its limits that Daz can do... Like creating a specific character or making a comic. AI hopefully will be integrated into Daz Studio to make things easier, but AI will never replace what can be done artistically in Daz.
Hexagon says enter serial number when I open it?
Yes, You need to look for your serial number in your daz studio account. Copy and paste it in and you're all set to go!
Forgive the spam if I already posted this, but I made quite a lengthy review of Premier. ua-cam.com/video/WEgk996JVZ8/v-deo.html
genial
Thanks!
This video is really helpful. Mesh grabber does not always work good enough for me. I will definitely try this. I did not know the use of hexagon until now. Thank you so much. Keep up your good work.
Glad it was helpful!
Смотрю из за Милики так как в Даз уже научился всему😊
Thanks, Milica is very hot... I enjoy working with her!
Great vid, well explained. As soon as this render finishes imma gonna play Hexagon 😁
Hope you enjoy it!
Your use of hexagons is very good. Your teaching method is very good.
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for reminding me as to how to use Hexagon!! 👍👍
Happy to help!
That was cool thanks
Glad you found it helpful!
This is excellent, you're doing stuff here that I've never even considered using Hexagon for.
Glad to hear my tutorials are helpful!
Great videos! I came to your channel to see if I should install Daz 4.23 and ended up learning how to use Hexagon, a program I downloaded years ago, but I've never opened once. I could have used this program in so many of my past renders. Thanks for the tutorial!
Great to hear! Hexagon is pretty cool!
Nice. I didn't know about Hexagon. I personally prefer the DForce Magnet script fot this type of deformation because of the realistic draping effect.
Hexagon is fairly new to me as well. I love it for posing clothes... Next will be hair!
thank you so much, cant believe after a year this issue still exist
Crazy huh!
Thanks! I love Rhiannon's products, but they still create for G8F and G8.1F. I'll love forever G8 and G8.1 :)
Love for G8 is a good thing!
I just started using daz i got 3060 ti it lags as hell can enven move character properly can you help me with that is my system fault of some setting I got to tweak
I have a 3060 ti too but don't generally suffer from this problem. One of the reasons for slow moving characters is that certain hairs are so heavy in geometry that they slow down the moving of the character it is attached to. Try removing the hair and putting it back once the figure is in position. Also, moving anything in I-Ray shading will slow down. Hope that helps.
A 3060 should work well. I have a 3070. There are a lot of things that could be causing your system to work very slow. I would first make sure to update your drivers. Many times Daz won't work well, or at all with outdated drivers. Which Daz are you using? 4.23? What type of scene have you set up? Keep it really simple as you start. For example, one character, and a simple set of props. Adding many characters in one scene is never good for speed.
@@notfromthisworld7672 I just new to this I was using gensis 9 character victory and in the background I used full house when I used to switch to places like restroom kitchen I wasn't able to do anything and it was showing system not responding
I have been using the latest version I was using gensis 9 victory in the background I was adding one house with different spaces while going from one room to the other I wasn't even able to use anything and it used to give me daz not responding pop up ia that because of 8gb vram Or what
@@ego7565 16gb of ram is pretty standard, anything less is going to cause problems with bigger scenes.
Hi i'm trying to make my own AVN, problem is that i struggle with the background thing, should the background and character be rendered at the same time, the character layered on it, or should the character and the background both be rendered each one by one ?
For most of my work, I set up the scene with the background included. I render everything at the same time. I don't usually layer my picture.
@notfromthisworld7672 Thank You for your time i will try.
@@notfromthisworld7672 Also just one question it's a bout the backdrop what is a backdrop exactly ? Like a background for the character ? And how exactly do we need to use them
The Hexagon bridge makes it very easy to move something back and forth.
Yes!
I do use hexagon, but issues, like changing random polys materials to defsurf_mat is annoying, let alone daz native sizing is incredibly small, so i choose to import meshes 1000 times larger and scale down during export.
It has some bugs, but I have not had any trouble with it lately.
If anyone is stuck because Hexagon is asking for an activation code (remembers those? lol!) Then if you go to 'My Account' in DAZ you will find it under 'Serial Numbers'
Why not have DAZ do the canvases? That way it is already rendered in one go, but saved as separate layers.
You can definitely use canvases. I'm planning a tutorial on how to use them in the future.
I have been able to load Hexagon but import or work on anything wasn't really easy. But now you explained about the path to the installation of Hexagon, it might become easier.
Awesome! Hope you have been successful playing with Hexagon!
@@notfromthisworld7672 Not yet, the issue I ran into was the 'cutouts'. I hoped it would render the background fully, while the next layer, selected objects, would be separated...but the background just had holes where objects would show....meaning you can't move them even a pixel. :(
@@notfromthisworld7672 I am waiting for your tutorial 😁
Nice
Thanks!
Okay, Hexagon 64bit downloaded and ready to go. Breath suitably bated.
At least 3 tutorials are in the works for Hexagon! Stay tuned.
Yes I agree, I do like Blender but find it a bit too complicated to learn and look forward to your Hexagon tutorials!!!!😃
Blender is like Photoshop, it's a great program but you need to take a class to learn how to use it.
I thought DAZ abandoned Hexagon years ago. I am glad they have a new beta. I tried to use it as a no frills mesh editor before I learned blender's interface better, it had potential but was not receiving any support back then.
If I not wrong this beta is from 2018.
I thought they haven't had an update in years?
The Hexagon update is from 2018 but it works very well for your posing needs.
Interesting! But why not start easy? Can you make an object too like an iglo?
Yes! You can morph any object with Hexagon. I will start showing you the ins and outs starting with my next tutorial! I had trouble just getting Hexagon to work so that's why I made this video.
Nice.
I think you will like what Hexagon can do!
Don't waste time with hexagon.
I was into Hexagon years ago, but I drifted away from it for some reason. Probably because Apps came out for Daz that did a lot of the stuff I did in Hexagon? A place to pick-up some tips is: "WP GURU". Jay used to do quite a bit with Hexagon in the early days. I await your Tutorials on the subject and Hope it may inspire me to dive in again. 👍
OK, this is going to be interesting. I did have some limited success with Hexagon in the past but eventually gave up on it because it consistently crashed. I'm willing to give it another try and follow along with you on this, you quite possibly have learned more about it than I did. Thanks, should be good. (That's not to suggest that your other stuff isn't interesting also, it's just that this topic will be of particular interest to me haha).
@@jontaylor1652 I'm excited about Hexagon because it's allowing me to be able to create some actual step by step tutorials again which is what I love to do.
Interesting! Now you have my attention. Wondering we can use this to show several stages of undressing (ahem....if you know what I mean). The undress morphs are limited and not exactly ideal. Looking forward to your next video!
@@Paragon_north This is exactly what Hexagon is able to accomplish. I've tried undressing in Blender as well, but Hexagon makes it easier and you create a direct morph for the clothing that can be used anytime you want!
Thanks you Sir for the announcement, I will be there... 😀👌
I opened Hexagon a few years ago thinking, 'oh cool, this will be fun'. Turns out not to be the case, at least for me, so I waved goodbye to it. I'll be interested to see any tutorials on it... might even pluck up the courage to try it again. Particularly interested in getting hair to work with gravity. Edited to add.... no, it was Blender I downloaded back then!
@@TukikoTroy I think you will find Hexagon easier than Blender. For posing items it is pretty simple. I've worked some with Blender but, like you, didn't find it very appealing. I'll try it again perhaps to attempt animation.
@@notfromthisworld7672 If we can get realistic gravity on hair I'll definitely get. I'll probably get it anyway because, yes, poke-through is a pita!
