Franz Marzan, Ski Product Manager at Scott, talks to Mark Hayhurst
Franz Marzan, Ski Product Manager at Scott, talks to Mark Hayhurst about the company’s history, product development, sustainability and its future.
The sport of skiing was revolutionized with a technical innovation from Ed SCOTT, a talented engineer and ski racer living in Sun Valley, Idaho. Ed SCOTT's invention of the first tapered aluminium ski pole immediately replaced the sport's existing use of bamboo and steel.
That revolutionary invention launched a new brand, SCOTT, and fundamentally positioned SCOTT as a technical product leader in the skiing market. Ed SCOTT's initial vision of technical innovation would serve as the cornerstone company philosophy as the brand matured and expanded to new markets.
In 1997, the Company introduced a technical winter sport apparel line. One year later, it was producing skis.
And Scott hasn’t stopped innovating and continues to this day to lead the way in developing new ski products.

Volkl Deacon 72 review with Jakey Richardson and Graham Bell
Don’t buy it. They light and keep breaking on the slopes. For that price Volkl won’t accept warranty. Skis for £1200 it’s a joke
Is the Q4 aimed at beginner skiers, or the there a Q 3, 2 or 1 for them?
Is this really a way to test a ski?? How about short turns, moderate speeds?
Cool! Length 170 cm? Radius 13 m?
Imagine if oakley did this with a magnetized goggle lens and the magnetic face shield
Got mine today. Light weight and rugged build. Hopefully I will never need to inflate it. 😊
sound quality is poor
I tried this mirus cor and was impressed it's 13m radius but wide underfoot. The mantra I did not like, they "caught an edge" often.
On this snow a sub 70 carver will ski circles around the VWerks. And quietly at that.
I have skied on Volkl skis most of my life. At 79 I would have loved this ski, but I think I am at the end of my skiing life. Unfortunately. My favourite ski was Volkl World Cup Renntiger. I now ski on Volkl P50.
it looks like you were on rock hard groomers... i wonder how that ski would do when the snow starts softening up..
Much better than on hard snow.
Looking at Atomic's site, they look to be maybe phasing out the Savor GT as the Volant is now apparently the recreational flagship helmet, but at £550 it is a £150 price hike.
Nice turns! I have qst 98, qst 106 2017 and just got qst 106 2022, thining of gettign new strive bindings as well, Cheers!
The Ski looks very soft. Is it possible to go fast?
Learn to ski😂😂😂
Excellent review Thank you 😊
Don’t understand your account very well ,u are talking to world wide audiences ,actors in Hollywood learn how to speak without that accent so everyone can understand them ..
Transcript?
Not understanding anything from this video. Thanks for trying though.
A similar "driver" killed a child in Slovakia with such a "driving" style!
I agree. That kind of bombing down the slopes should not be allowed. Besides, he is testing an all mountain ski on a groomed run. Like taking a SUV on a formula 1 track. That ski not meant to do that, and you can tell that by the way the tips get off track and the difficulties he has pointing them in any one direction. He wants to go one way, the skis go somewhere else. That ski is meant for moderate speeds and through powder, trees, all mountain. I don't even understand why people are skiing groomed runs. Add the speed and they are all set for disaster.
Nice helmet but this must be a large size looks way too big
Thanks for that. I've been reading great things about these skis and your video confirms it! :)
“I guess off piste they must be amazing”….mmmm ok, next.
Nice review. I would like to ask which one would you recommend between Q 9.8 and Q7? I like to ski fast, aggressive and participate in local races every then and now. But also like the ski to handle in all conditions and not being over demanding or making me backseat. So which one is more appropriate?
It looks HUGE
that's cause it's a large
@@banneduser978 there's literally a giant M in the dead middle of the helmet lol
@@Bromag118 that's the magnetic design 😆 🤣
Im looking for helmets that are not gigantic as well. But Im a total noob do you know any other helmets w visors thats kind of on the smaller size? So far I liked the SMITH Core or Maze but you have to get goggles for those.
Thanks for your video, I really like how you explain everything. Just a bit concerned that I’m currently looking to get the Q7, but I’m around intermediate level (can do blue but more confidence in green). Is this too much for me? Should I just get Atomic Maverick 83? Thanks a lot!🎉
You test freeride ski on normal trail? What sense does it make?
Graham say hi to Martin for me pls
What is the difference between the redster x9i and x9s?
The Redster X9i is a limited edition version of the X9 & has a slightly different construction. 👍
how are these any different from the deacon master 72?
It's a wider ski & has different characteristics. The 72 is a more performance piste dedicated ski.
How you would compare it to the Deacon Master 72?
Glad to see a review from someone that can actually ski 🎿 to a high level!
As an Intermediate skier wanting to progress all the time, at 171cm & 70kg would you recommend going for the 172 or 178 ski length? These are going to be my first pair of skis so I am a little confused which one would be best
Hi There, It's a great ski, for an intermediate it's quite a lot of ski. However, if you want them & are mostly on piste then go shorter. If you want them for all mountain/freeride then go longer. It skis shorter than it looks, but if you're skiing mostly on piste there are better options in the Black Crows range 👍
uh... not a carving ski, clearly. Get off that hard pack
We know, we have limited time/conditions on each ski we can test. No doubt it's a mega freeride ski, but when you get the harder conditions it's great to know it still bombs around the mountain & makes you smile 😊
𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘮
Nice turns! What length was it?
170 we believe 👍
Unfortunately it's impossible to understand the bit you were skiing.
How would you compare it to the previous model, the Deacon 74?
I used the Hawx Ultra 120S all of last season and really enjoyed them, but I need to get new ones. I was thinking of going with the Hawx Ultra xtd 120 since I found them for almost the same price as the regular 120 flex one. How do they compare in downhill performance? Thanks!
What ski length were you skiing? I'm assuming this is the 22/23 Kendo?
Mmm, testing wide off-piste skis on piste. Very helpful.
Unfortunately Snow conditions during the test are what they are. This at least gives someone looking at these skis a good idea of how they perform when the conditions off-piste aren't great, which in Europe is increasingly so.
..if you add the fact that his skiing level is a total flop then what a cherry review we got here 🤡🤡🤡
Would you recommend this ski for heavier riders? I'm 6'2" 220lb not inflating that. Would I be better suited for the regular deacon 84 just to keep some more mass beneath me, especially at high speeds?
For heavier riders this is a powerful ski that will give good stability.
I am sure these are fabulous skis but it's nonsensical to try and label a ski the best ski in the world. Different skis suit different conditions as I am Graham Bell knows full well, he wouldn't ski these in a world cup race now would he ? Nor would they be ideal in 3 feet of powder. It really doesn't help to make dumb statements like 'is this the best ski in the world ?'. Maybe the best piste oriented all mountain ski in the world ?
What Graham means here is that for what he's skiing right now, conditions wise, this Ski is one of the best in his opinion. Thanks for watching :)
@@winterinsight If that's what Graham means, then I would suggest that he should say so and be clear what he means. Even then, if it's mainly firm on piste conditions he is skiing (as it appears to be the case in the video), would a narrower race carver (something like 76mm underfoot) be a better option ? 84 mm underfoot is more of a wide all mountain ski, just saying.
He states at the end his personal view, at the beginning he is quoting the brand's claim. If you can only have 1 ski to do it all, they claim it's the best in the world. Graham simply agrees it's a great ski for varied terrain. Best in the world, as you suggest, is subjective. However, Volkl claim it's the best Ski in the world if you have to choose 1 ski to do it all, not Graham. Sure, purely on piste a narrower ski might be better unless you want a ski for varied Snow conditions etc. On this test we can only test the Skis in the conditions we have at the time. 84mm is maybe all mountain for Europe, for North America is considered more Piste focused as an example.
@@winterinsight Thank you, you have now brought up the various nuances in ski testing that a good reviewer should highlight in a review, conditions in which the ski is designed for, what are the compromises inherent in ALL ski designs, what are the strengths and weaknesses in a ski, local preferences in ski width (NA vs Europe as you have pointed out), none of which were covered in the video as far as I can tell. What I saw was 'Volkl says this is the world's best ski (which is an absurd claim to begin with)' and 'hey I really like it, it's a great ski' after skiing it on a couple of groomed runs.
I think this ski is best in the world for me.
I like Graham’s ski videos a lot… here the audio quality is poor. I get he liked the ski 😄
cool
Do we have a date now ?
If you check out Oakley's website they should have details on when the Helmet will be released :)
Released. Just picked one up off of Oakley SI
Can you do one for Black Crows?
It's coming!
Inspiring !!!!
Isn't it just like Look Pivot?
No, but i can see your thought process. The Pivot has a turntable heel & is a great system. This binding has 2 separate rear release points & designed specifically to reduce ACL injuries. This has been tested & stacks up against all bindings as the safest for your knees :)
Where can I buy this? It’s not available on the US website yet
This Helmet is available later this year, in time for the next Winter Season!
