@Pedropaulocastilho: In 1997, my choice would have been L.A. Confidential. Titanic had great art direction/costumes/effects, but there was no story w/in--it was NOT nominated for Original Screenplay (correctly). I haven't seen Tom Jones or Annie Hall. The others are enjoyable but not Best Picture: 1952: Quiet Man over Greatest Show on Earth, 1956: Giant over Around the World in 80 Days. Shakespeare in Love...that one I'm undecided.

@GallifreyExile I guess Titanic" one of the best. Great production!!! The worsts (in my opinior, sure) are: "The Greatest Show On Earth", "Around the World in 80 days", "SHAKESPARE IN LOVE", "Tom Jones", "Annie Hall". Who deserved win in 1997, in your opinion?

@ Ga11owbraid: Citizen Kane was 1941, Rebecca was 1940--it beat out The Great Dictator & Grapes of Wrath. Kane and The Maltese Falcon lost to How Green Was My Valley. While Kane should have won, HGWMV was directed by John Ford--he usually didn't make bad movies. Best Best Picture: Casablanca. Worst: Titanic.
