How I fixed my Bmw MAF sensor - Cheap
Переглядів 14 тис.2 роки тому
Just a quick, short video of an issue I had back in June. My bmw was throwing a mass air flow code that wouldn't clear. The sensor was cleaned and also replaced but it never fixed my issue. So i reset the adaptations on the old sensor which cured my problem. This solved my Mass air flow issue however it may not solve yours. Do this at your own discretion. Engine Code - 3FC0 code Phone app - Bim...

Replacing a Bmw air intake temperature sensor on my 2009 Bmw with an N57 engine. OEM number 13627792203. My part number may be different to yours. Apologies for recording vertically. Disclaimer: you don't need to remove the intake pipe from the shudder valve, I did it to allow more room.
DId you use OE BMW Part or went with OEM supplier? If yes, which one? Thanks
This is the one I bought HELLA 6PT 009 109-351 Sensor, intake air temperature - 2-pin connector amzn.eu/d/8jlvkQc. So not oem
I've had to reset the MAF Adaptations 3 times on my 2010 330D Coupe. It seems to require this every time I disturb the MAF, eg by replacing the air filter. I bought a Launch 919 for £300 off ebay for OBD stuff on all the family's cars....
Your video was a lot of help for me replacing my module today on my 2010 330D Coupe. Bought my module from Autodoc for £82.28 + £8.45 shipping. It is an awkward place they located it. They could have put it anywhere close to the alternator and glow plugs. I guess they thought it would last the life of the cars. I've seen some videos on other BMW diesels where this module is even more difficult to get to. Like an idiot I dropped the bottom bolt of the module. Had to take off the tray that covers the fuel filter, underneath the car to retrieve it. I didn't bother disconnecting my battery. And I didn't take the lead off the alternator. I just pushed it out the way. The job took me a couple of hours, all in. Including clearing the fault codes with my Launch 919 tablet. The car was running fine with the faulty old module, but it looked like DPF regens may not have been happening. So it would may have been a matter of time before the car went into limp mode with a blocked DPF. Since I bought the car with 107,000 miles, it's had: EGR replaced 4 x new tyres 3 x oil and oil filter changes Fuel, air and cabin filter replaced Water pump replaced (it was leaking) Intercooler pipe seal replaced (the one you take off to get to the glow plug module) Rear brake disks and pads. Aux belt and tensioners replaced Front and rear shock absorbers replaced Auto transmission fluid replaced Alarm battery and circuit in rear wheel arch replaced MAF recalibrated 3 times Aircon regassed Brake fluid replaced Wheel alignment done. And then checked 20,000 miles later Most of them done by me. It's now up to 135,000 miles I'm hoping the car will settle down into just needing oil and filters for the next year or two... It's been great for reliability in terms of never breaking down and leaving us stranded. Not so great in terms of various things needing attention.
Well done my man
Nice one. Just tackled this myself, would probably not have attempted if not for your vid! Bit of a joke this part has a huge design flaw, previous new part only lasted 4 years (also BERU). As others have said that big connector is a real tough bugger... Almost as annoying as doing the full manifold. Wera precision set (the one with the tiny ratchet) helped me massively with the 2 bolts
Ho..I don't have option on my bimmertool resetting maf sensor...the car is 520d bmw f11
This BMW app is ridiculously awesome. Thank you
Hi mate, you said the car has to be off (not running ) and ignition on for the actual adaptation to run?
Yeah ignition on
I have exactly the same problem After a few months the dpf won't regen Previously it did I realised it started throwing the maf error code on the App after the air filter change Hopefully adaptation will sort it out Thank you for valuable advice!
Give it a good clean aswell
Which app did you use mate?
Bimmertool on android
Excellent video, thank you. Worth mentioning that where others have experienced this the issue has been due to a leak. Make sure you've checked for pipe leaks before recalibrating your maf
Yes absolutely, spot on 👍
I’ve got this exact issue and done the same stuff as you - cleaned it, replaced it. No joy. But I don’t have android. Do you know any other apps that can do it? You sound local lol come do mine 😩
To be honest mate, I've not had an issue with the app and I don't think android or Apple with make a difference lol
I hope i could do it too but i don’t understand why i don’t have any access to this function on my iphone bimmercode. I also use veepeak 😢
My one says expected 1600 and the actual 468 . The torque says expected 24 nm and the actual is 9 nm.??? What should I do?
When you drive, are the figures similar between the actual and expected?
Jesus that top one is a bastard!
It is mate
Brilliant video. I use an iphone and have BimmerLink and BimmerCode but they don't give you the actual/expected feature (as far as I know it doesn't show expected anywhere) - which looks an amazing feature if you don't know what the readings should be. It also doesn't give you soot percentage. This app you're using is android only 😡 I'll see if I've an old Android tablet and get this installed. Didn't even know it existed so many thanks for that the video. Keep up the good work.
my maf reading at idlle is 8-9 g/s Is that normal?
Seems a little bit high, is the expected and actual two very different figures or are they close?
@@ramzz0964 is that maybe because of leak or broken maf
@@ramzz0964 no it's not close
@@kucickula try cleaning it out first, use maf cleaner and then run the scanner again
Is 0.3 g/s on idle normal?
Wow mine says expect 1217 😮 dont know why its expecting that much
It happens, seen some that say 2000 reset it and see what's what
@@ramzz0964 I did reset it and it's still says expected 1270 nothing changed. It's only the expected side that say that number so I'm a bit baffled
@@ramzz0964mine shows 2000 and i dont know what to do
What says the actual @@user-gy9me2sg9u
Did yours run rough on start ups then runs fine when warm. Iv got same codes. Cheers for the vid
To be honest I didn't let it get to that point, it must have popped up twice on a diagnosis, then I just changed the part. No worries if you need any more help let me know
did you clean the connector for maf where it plugs in or did u remove and clean the maf?
Both mate just to be sure, and it still didn't work properly, that's when I decided to reset it
@@ramzz0964 are you used the old one?
Thank you bro will give it a try
No worries bro 🤙🏼 let me know if it worked
Thx mate , i have the same problem. I will try 😊
I don't know why my expected value expected is 2000mg/stk and I still have 450 after reset MAF SENSOR
Did it work?
@@ramzz0964 nope
Just done this on my 2010 E92 330D. Cost me £118 for the Gates kit from Autodoc (belt, tensioner and 2 idlers). Took me 90 minutes from start to finish. Trickiest bit was getting off the plastic elbow pipe to the air filter (didn't want to use too much brute force). The rest of it was pretty straight-forward. I torqued the tensioner bolt to 38NM and the 2 idlers to 19NM.
Thanks for writing, yeah you wanna be careful with the plastic. Just wish the torque settings were clear online but I did all mine the same and haven't had a problem. Only reason I didn't go with gates is I've heard they squeek quite bad, is this the case?
@@ramzz0964 So far no squeaks. But it's early days. Less than 100 miles done on the new belt and idlers. Next task is to get the aircon working again - which will be a take it to a specialist job...
I changed my glow plugs and still slow to start so going to try this, looks a bit awkward to get to but straight forward job other then that. They are £80 online
Yeah that's a good price, it is straight forward. hope the video helps 👍🏽
On the E46 M57d30 where Is located?
If you look along the intercooler hose, should be along that. Not the turbo side.
1:45 I can’t remove the connector. I have done everything up to this point as you did but for some reason it’s not coming off. Any tips?
There are two tabs, one on the front, which you can see and one on the back pinch them both and it'll slide off
@@ramzz0964 I did push both tabs and it was not coming off. I managed to get it off today with a mini clamp pinching the tabs and prying with a screwdriver. For some reason mine was not coming off so easily. Thanks for the video
great video. doing this tomorrow. thanks a lot.
Glad to hear this helped
There is another video on youtube which shows how to repair these. Often the main power wires from the power connector to the PCB fail, and it can be repaired by opening it up and resoldering with thicker wires. Might be useful to fix up the old one to keep as a spare...
Thanks Simon. I'm not very good with electrics so have sent mine off to a repair shop which advertises on ebay. £40. New part seems to be £120 and unknown as to whether it requires coding to the car. Let's see if it works. Now I've taken it off once it's a 10 minute job if I need to repeat it
@@minimark123 It shouldn't need coding, or at least mine didn't. Just plug and play.
@@simonh870 Thanks for the confirmation. If my repair doesn't work for whatever reason I'll get one of the £90 ones off of autodoc and plug and play. I have carly so will reset the fault code anyway.
What syntoms do you have ? I have the same error code tnx
Didn't feel like all the power was there and my mpg was rubbish.
Were you having any issues with your car? I've been having a rough idle after cold start and I've read this might be the culprit
I was having no issues with the car, my scanner kept showing the code even after clearing it, so for piece of mind before winter I changed it. But I have read it can cause rough idle, may be worth getting it scanned
What app did you use
Bimmer-tool
Well done lad am going to attempt this today on my 530d hard to get hold of for some reason but I got it from AUTODOC thanks for the video
It's where I got mine from, they are hard to find. No worries man
@@ramzz0964 done it today thanks for the help
Do any of you guys have the part number for the relay at all? I've got a 2009 330d I need to do this on but all the ones I can see are not compatible. Or would you possibly have the link to the correct one on autodoc? Thanks 😊
Use realOEM for part numbers
I have a problem starting in the morning and in the cold. I was told that was the problem. is it possible. do you have the same problems
Good job. Thx
Cheers man
