Sound Recognition uses on-device intelligence to notify users who might otherwise miss audible environmental alerts around them. On iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, users receive a notification when a particular type of sound or alert, such as a fire alarm or doorbell, is detected. An awesome feature for Deaf people! @Apple

I always find it intriguing to see the translation process between American Sign Language and English. I will have to admit, it's not easy to do. Enjoy!

I added visual effects, sound effects, and music. It is fascinating how Deaf people get to choose sounds effects and music. MUSIC? Yes, It's beyond my comprehension! I hope you'll enjoy this video.

    I used to interpret 20 years ago for a short time. I haven’t practiced receptive skills in a long time. I’ve been using vids to practice off and on. I’m surprised I read as many as I did. I probably got 80%-85% of the various topic words and all of the specific topic. I saw Pacific for pacifier kind of mistakes. Fun! Thank you!

    Who decides what is racist? A handshape is just a handshape. The sign for "sleep" or "sleepy." Does that mean that these signs are racist signs too? The hand movements of "Black, Ugly, White" and "Beautiful" are each completely different. Is movement of signs now racist? It comes down to what is in a person's heart and what they are seeing. If you see corruption in everything, then all you see is corruption. To the pure, all things are pure.

    One of the best tips I learned (that also includes a bit of everything you showed in the video) is to focus on the context. So include the shape of the word, focusing on the overall size etc, but focus on what they *could* be spelling. It's similar to the flash cards you used :) I discovered this kind of on my own during ASL class, when the teacher spelled bratwurst. Also, the spelling of that word is weird anyway lol. We were learning about signs for meat in that section of the class, thats where the context comes in. He spelled it really fast, and waited to see if anyone understood. I forgot the sign for it, if there even is one lol, and just said, "wait, is it the thing that's like a hotdog?" Everyone was super surprised apparently haha. It was based on two main tips I learned; trying to catch the whole word instead of individual letters, and ✨️context✨️ Context is so important in ASL, and I'd imagine any other language. Anyway that's something I thought I'd share :P

    Hey, with regards to putting one speaker on hold to have a brief discussion with another speaker, how polite/rude is this method, are there other methods, and what's the general length of time that the second conversation can last before it *does* become rude? I expect these are different from similar moves in English, especially since putting a finger in someone's face like that *is* typically seen as rude -- and because when you're looking away from your conversation partner, you have effectively shut off their *ability* to continue, in a way that doesn't happen for hearing conversational partners (unless perhaps you leave the room altogether).

  • @Arkylie
    @Arkylie 4 місяці тому

    Several of these are highly visual! I also particularly like "ooh! I thought of something" because it seems super useful to be able to interrupt a flow of thought, and I hope it would be clear if I used it in a conversation, if I ever got that far. It certainly feels like "hang on a minute" plus "think" and "insert in middle" so it feels like it'd be clear even if you didn't know the idiom specifically.

  • @Arkylie
    @Arkylie 4 місяці тому

    This is why in my conlangs I prefer noun-descriptor order rather than the English version. It's also a useful thought process while writing, using larger chunks of meaning. There's a place for a kind of montage (random snapshots of a location/person/thing), but generally it's good to have a mental camera moving through the scene. E.g. describing a character's outfit as shoes, pants, shirt, hat, rather than shirt, shoes, pants, hat; the brain doesn't have to jump around as much.

    If the origin of the signs were racist then I agree. However if people are subjectively noticing that certain signs appear similar (black, ugly) then that's not enough reason to change a language. I'm not Deaf but I see a little too much wokeism in some deaf culture as in hearing culture. Anyone want to help me understand more?

    Thank you so much! Understanding finger spelling has been a huge problem for me for years! I always have trouble understanding what people are spelling to me and I have to ask them to go so slow. Just like when I can't hear what somebody is saying and I repeat back what I think they said, signing back what I think they spelled is such a huge improvement over asking them to sign it again. Thank you so much for this video.
