Very nice job how old is she now five
Oh gee, I’m so sorry he was not that old. Was he cancer I assume?
NICE. Do you still have RIDE?
Ride died in Aug 2022 🩵
Very nice. Do you still work your male ?
He passed in Aug last year. He worked until the very end ❤️
@@emilywhisper oh no. I am so sorry. How old ? Was that Ride. ? He was the BEST !! Did you get some you tubes ? Was he sick ?
@@watchmoivies123 I knew 10 months before that Ride had hepatocellular cancinoma. It wrapped around essential vessels. Surgery wasn’t an option. TACE didn’t buy us the time I’d wanted. But really no amount of time would have been enough.
@@emilywhisper oh, I’m so sorry but I know we never want our animals to be in pain and I think that’s liver cancer correct ?? I love that dog from your UA-cam videos. He was so sweet and has such a strong desire to please. But I know they never live long enough. Rest in peace beautiful Ride
VERY NICE. just the seesaw was a tad off.. BUT, SHE IS GREAT!
Nice job. No she must be close to two years old any titles yet
💪 𝕡𝐫o𝕄o𝔰𝓶
GOOD JOB Ride!
He's PERFECT!
Love the coat or vest. Can I see where you got it? Or the brand? Thanks!
RIDE ROCKS!!!
I'm on the same journey with my puppy, watching your videos gives me hope!
I feel you have to love the journey to train a RC!
Oh gosh. Poor Ride he is such a sweetie So If you could take it back would you have neutered him at age 2? Do you think that would’ve been better I know we can’t take back time but it’s just a question I know we know what to do myself my last Border Collie neutered at age 7 and did an X-ray and came back OFA good which is good and he had no issues and died at age 15 but I’m not gonna wait till age 7 for this dog ,it’s such a hard decision I just wish he came neutered at eight weeks old even though I know that’s a bad bad thing I will go in and listen to that podcast thank you very much
I was advised by Ride's internal medicine vet not to neuter him as a young dog. He has eosinophilic inflammatory bowel disease and took a lot of medication to stabilize his immune system (continuous steroids, several immunosuppressants and antibiotics). Around age 6 I was told I could neuter him the next time he was already anesthetized for something else necessary. That time never came. He developed that prostate infection and that made the choice for us. To do it over again, I'd probably do it the same way. He was easy to live with intact. I don't think there is a wrong choice, just one that works for you, your dog and your household. I'd likely have neutered him before my young girl came into heat to avoid any oops and crating/seperating.
Hello I was wondering if you can give me your thoughts on not neutering my male Border Collie. I’ve heard good and bad and I just was wondering about your thoughts? Thank you very much
I'm no expert, just an owner. My personal preference is to wait until *at least* age 2 to neuter or spay. The current research suggests male BCs can be neutered after age 1 with no significant additional risk of cancer or joint disease. Ride was neutered at age 8 after a big prostate infection that landed him in ICU for a week. As a result of the neuter, he has urinary incontinence controlled by medication. CogDog Radio (podcast) did an excellent podcast on this topic a week or so ago. Worth checking out. The vet she had on was excellent IMO. The research I spoke about is linked here: www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fvets.2020.00388/full
How is Ride doing ? any updates on him
soooo What do you think of this movement?
I think he hides an injury well at a trot. I also think he's trying damn hard to stay at a trot vs anything else. But his reach isn't equal/symmetrical. The tiny snip of gallop isn't long enough but in real life, it looks really uncomfy. Still looking for answers about what is going on here. Ortho consult 1 wasn't useful. Neuro exam isn't great but MRI from last Fall revealed nothing. More to come.

LOOKS PERFECT TO ME.
HE ROCKS! Love this boy!
0:00 to 1:00 Start off any sitting on the edge of the car, next to her crate. The sign of "nothing else is happening" and nope. Not budging. 1:00 to 2:15 I sit with her and we talk 2:02 yawn 2:30 to 4:45 I'm sitting on edge of car 3:48 rolling. Taking to her isn't engaging her. 4:45 I walk over to her.She wants tummy rubs and we chill 6:10 I get up and say "this way" and walk 45 degrees to the car/field. She follows. She pauses for a few seconds in front of the crate Loads at 6:30. Eats her chicken. The ride to agility (18min) wasn't settled for her. She was up, down, flipping hips.... Once arrived at agility, she was frazzled, unfocused until we went way back to basics with engagement play. Ride home was easy peasy.
is she sound sensitive?
Depends. To tons of stuff, no. To some stuff like ice shaking in a container or packing tape coming off a roll or this, yes.
@@emilywhisper okay so my guess muffle the sound or put it twice as far away , yes ? No ?
@@watchmoivies123 I was hoping to have her hear noise from further then run to plate to get food. Not working for her. So we went with transferring the value of toy for eating the food (thats the game at the end here). I'll play this again outside where the noise can dissipate more (too hot today) and I'll do some DS/CC to just the machine, having it near her while she eats dinner). I'll definitely do more "TnT noise then Eat food = tugging. I'd like her to be able to use this machine for teeter training but if she doesn't take to it or if it takes a while, its fine. There's no rush.
@@emilywhisper yea they can be funny. Did Ride go through this. ? Could be something else. They all have something. Just muffle it and make the sound from far away and toss a treat or toy if higher value to her. My other BC was afraid of fireworks , I Played loud music when they came. Also sang and danced happy.
left the house, Rey and Ride off leash. Did not walk first and had a lunch bag. This is clearly a real drive! Rey took 30 seconds in the shade and then hopped in. Reward is meat from a chicken drumstick, which she ATE!!! It's super hot out (~33C) 0:54 lies down after eating 1:10 a bunch (~12) licks and some swallowing Otherwise comfy
She looks tired
drive 1: RTK behind the front seats. Happily jumped in and sat up longer than I'd expect but looked ok. 4:03 drive 2 in MIM at the back of the car. **4:55 some licking
load 1: excellent drive 1: roughly 100', no issues load 2: didn't follow me right to the car as to say "open itttttttt" but as soon as I called her she was there. Smooth loading. drive 2: roughly 100' (to the gate), can't see her face for most of it but nothing jumps out at me. did some rewarding then took a few minutes to chill and decompress, as though the car is a working session (it is). Now the car is at the gate which is a weird place for her to load. She also rarely goes to the gate, preferring to stay up by the house. load 3: she follows me to the gate without calling! Hops in easily! She appears relaxed, even lying down in her crate. note the video is super bumpy here because of how I anchored it.Then it fell and I lost 2 minutes of driving. But when I opened the door, she was cool as a cucumber. Total driving to the end of the road and back.
Hello OK I like this desk can you tell me where I could buy it I am in the United States not in Canada but I’m sure it’s available around correct?
I make them and ship anywhere in the world. Check out @spotteddisc on Facebook or instagram :)
Uneventful! She's settled. It's bumpy but also, it's the way the camera is hanging.
quite settled, even at first, even thought I had to back up 5' 1:50 a couple of swallows 2:08 a couple of swallows 2:14 couple more swallows 2:53 couple more swallows (video ends when my camera tips)
1:55 love how she's trying to reengage and she runs to her crate! finish by driving 3' and having a party :)
Doors close. I accidentally turn off the car that was on so have to turn it on again. She's lying down throughout but can't see her face. 6:00 first time we see her face is when she curls up at the back of the crate. ***6:03 a few tongue licks then 4-5 more licks then 2 more (all in 50 seconds) *** 7:42 4-5 more licks 8:34 swallowing a few times? ***8:59 is that breathing rate really fast?? otherwise uneventful
by 3:56 she's still loading well. I've sat in my seat and closed the door. Her retrieve is still fast and direct and her out/give is on point. She's not showing stress. ***4:12 she brings back quickly then walks away when I initiate another loading rep. I give her space. 5:46 she lets me approach but is done at this point. Gives me the toy then walks away to lie down again. 5:53 she brings me the toy. We do a few reps of out&take with toy. She is interested in food. She needed a break in this session! Just like if we were doing grids or something else that is both physical and mental.
That’s so smart
Do you always leave leash on? In crate?
no I prefer not to. generally my crew doesn't wear collars even but Rey will drag a long line for this walk so I'd prefer not to have to build it in. I'm not concerned about her recall but rather if she decides she doesn't want to load in the car for the drive home.
Eyes and body language appears more relaxed this time (maybe the 90min run). Eyes are smaller and she looks around much less. She has her eyes mostly closed and head down for this drive and it's boring (and perfect) to watch! one sigh around 4:45 super bumpy start (went slow through some huge holes) head up when we get to turning to come up the driveway 7:14 I get out (as a passenger) to close the gate. 8:05 park the car. Note: I see no nausea in this video
closing front doors really jostles her crate 1:01 2 beeps accidental 1:09 start to drive and she puts her head down and closes her eyes. Appears relaxed. 1:21 ***3 mouth licks while head is up 2:06 at bottom of driveway, I get back into car after opening the gate (Rob is driving). Rey pops her head up and looks around then settles her head back down within 10 seconds. 2:47 ***swallowing 3:28 ***swallowing 4:25 ***swallowing 4:55 big sigh 7:09 arrived at off leash spot where the road is super bumpy for last little stretch. Went slow. 9:15 arrived/parked my 2 cents: no big nausea but still nausea present and starting without 10sec of moving. If we'd parked at the end of the smoother road, it would have been 6min drive. Added 2:00 for tiny stretch that was bumpy.
Can't get any better than this! !! Love that she settled close to the side of Rides crate! She looks so up to him and he is an A+ brother... That was him barking/. yes? And VERY BUMPY RIDE TOO!
Love you have leash on.. Looks good so far! Good Luck!
standing until lying down at 0:48 appears completely settled with head down, soft eyes, mouth closed. 4:05 bumpy roads and still relaxed 4:29 small tongue licks (2) appear insignificant appears completely settled with head down, soft eyes usually semi-closed, mouth closed. looks up and sits up when we arrive to the parking lot dog barking is Em in the back seat. What a difference from last week's terrible ride! Cerenia 60mg did the trick.
Can I ask what you are looking at and waiting for when she is in the car till you let her out? Are you counting? Like 10 seconds and upping it each time?
I’m looking into space. Not counting anything specific at this point. Just a few seconds. Definitely not trying to up each time. I don’t want things to always be harder. I try to base it on how she looks and how tired she is of the work.
@@emilywhisper Okay, thats good, you know her best and are doing what is best for her! \\. Love your u tubes
0:17 Rey waits for the kennel door to open! release to toy and wing wraps 1:12 Load release to toy Play platform to kennel (2x door open, 1x door closes) 2:45 Load, door closes 2x, release to toy and wing wraps 4:11 debated stopping but the toy stuffed in my lap says "lets go" 4:18 Load release to toy, play 4:38 Load release to toy, play 4:52 I grab the rest of the beef on a saucer. wanted a low key session, with food of loading. Was even happy to pay for just getting close to the car initially to see. 1st load is very good 2nd load is "no thanks" as she walks right up to then walks away 1:05 ask for a nose touch away from the car and she's happy to but then I walk to the car and she goes back to her lying down spot 10' away. 2:00 grab a clicker and test my food, which she eats. 2:20 I sit by the car. She moves towards and we play some treat and retreat with high value food. 3:15 When I stand up, she stalls and walks away. I walk away and come right back to the car to sit on bumper to continue treat and retreat. She's 10' away lying down. 3:35 she moves towards me and gets several clicks (treat and retreat again). 4:50 pull a ball and play 5:13 back to treat and retreat, she transitions from ball to food well. 5:29 until she prefers to play alone with the ball instead of eating food for coming closer. Takes her ball to lie down 10' away. MAN I LET THIS SESSION DRAG ON WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY TOO LONG. 5:40 she brings me the ball, click. Offers to load for the ball repeatedly. This is just too concussive on her front end to do repeatedly.
Load 1 "YESSSSS", close crate door, open and play. Load 2 at 0:50 debates for a half second then "YES", close up hatch and I sit in my seat and close the door. The play. Note to self: next time listen to the half second pause!!! Load 3 at 2:00 she said "NO thank you" and goes to lies down 10' away. at 2:30 I walk towards her and bend over and she brings me the toy (ok, you're not avoiding me!) She follows me hard way then backs up and lies down. 3:09 I let Ride out of his kennel (not ideal, that's reinforcing). Walk a little and give some pettings. Give Ride a minute of work to reset the stage for "can you load before you work" game 4:25 load Ride back in and Rey comes without being prompted and says "YEEEEESSSSSSS". She earns work/play!
0:13 beeping from car turning on 0:25 driving starts on bumpy country home (from home) 0:35 some mouth smacking 1:00 open mouth breathing, tongue still in. Breathing fast. 3:17 still not settled, one big drop from mouth or nose. 4:20 settles head down, mouth closes. Breathing seems faster than usual. 5:15 now driving on paved road. 5:45 not settled, mouth open. 6:20 a little hack and mouth licking 6:45 head down, eyes closed for a few seconds then head back up and mouth open. 7:55 moves to back of crate, mouth licking 8:23 head down, eyes mostly closed. 9:05 head half up, eyes half closed, some mouth licking. Then head weirdly high, eyes half closed, sniffing. 10:05 head back down, eyes half closed. Breathing fast. Then head back up. Becomes more settled, head mostly down, mouth closes, still breathing faster than relaxed. 14:40 arrive
Should do a long Gotcha vid and say gotcha alot in vid. When u catch and trick your dog.
Ride jumps right in.. I think the reward should be to go for a ride but if she does not like it its not a reward..
Rey dislikes the car. No one is quite sure why but we're working with a behaviour vet to get her comfy. So going for a ride is definitely not reinforcing for her! Hopefully one day it will be.
But I saw one where she jumped right in the car and you took her for a long ride and she was fine Does she cry or vomit ? The one that I saw with you riding around for a little while she was it’s quiet and peaceful as can be unless that was before she had the issue
@@watchmoivies123 she’s a mystery to all! She sometimes still has nausea. Sometimes not. But she’s averse to loading. So we decided to seek some help after trying everything we could think of.
@@emilywhisper Do you know I won’t keep emailing back but have you ever just tried having her sit in the front seat with you and taking a little stroll around your yard and then getting out and having a little party as long as she’s happy and just sits there and takes a little ride? Is she OK that way or is it actually the crate in the back of the car it kind of makes her a little skittish of it I don’t know I just thought I’d ask
@@watchmoivies123 to get her willingly in the car took about 50 sessions but when it stops being a game of in and out or in and drive up to 5 min and get out, she regresses. Doesn’t matter where she is in the car. There are roughly 90 videos of her progress and I did at least 50 more impromptu sessions. I thought I could tackle it alone but the behaviour vet agrees what we did is exactly what she’d done. She doesn’t feel we’ll get out of this without meds. Likely a temporary thing to get her over the hump.
Why so many times? Does she not like the car? Well she has a GREAT example with Ride!
OMG. Hope no meds. What if you take he on a leash and have her watch Ride go in and just tell her Kennel up or what ever you say and just go... One time only.. Back home in 2 mins, let her out and say Lets go play, and go.. What would she do?
we worked through this in Jan/Feb but when the rides become longer than a few minutes she generally says hard no, doesn't matter how good the reward is. Her nausea was still likely present. I can't out train that.
0:00 Rey loads I load Em who is beside the car 1:19 car turns on. 1:41 we start driving and she looks almost instantly more relaxed. We are on country roads for the next 3-4min. Loud rattle is my phone hitting the cage, which she doesn't seem to mind. Though I'll change this up next time. 5:36 finally on a smooth big road. lying down 8:55 head comes up then back down 11:13 head comes up then back down 13:50 head comes up, she sits up, turns around and lies at back of crate.
