Friends, thank you so much for being here with us on this journey called life.
We are Matt & Molly and live an interesting and fun (at least to us 😂) life in the woods of New Hampshire, USA.
We left the hustle and bustle in MA in 2017 to live a quieter life & become debt free, which we have accomplished after years of being in the rat race! Matt built our home with his very own hands and continues to expand the homestead as we grow and evolve.
Molly loves to make pottery and teach ceramics in her spare time, although real estate has been her main gig for almost 20 years. She has always had the entrepreneurial spirit and loves people.
Matt does SO many things like construction, gardening, bee keeping, and even bracelet making! He’s passionate about balancing this modern day life with some of the more wholesome older ways of living. We both have a ton of fun growing and preserving lots of our own food. Also, tending to our chickens, ducks, parrot, and our pack of 6 amazing dogs!

Another celebration of wonky pots! In this video, I spin up approximately 3 pounds of clay on the potters wheel, making a flower vase. It got thrown off center but I was still able to keep it going and at the least, use it as a glaze tester! Speaking of glazing, I re-glazed this vase in this video, as well. The first glaze firing wasn’t as runny as I thought it would be 😆 and you know I love runny glaze combos! So, I also show the re-glazing process. I hope you find this video useful and inspiring ❤
🏺 Clay used: Laguna Bmix 5
🎨 First glaze combo:
🌟 3x satin patina by Mayco (bottom half)
🌟 3x light flux on rim and approx a few
Inches down from the rim
🌟 3x blue midnight by Amaco over the flux
And slightly overlapping satin patina
🎨 Second glaze - re/glaze
🌟 Added 1x blue midnight
🌟 Added 1x seaweed (amaco)
🌟 1x globby rim of oatmeal (amaco)
🔥 Fired to a cone 6 both time

Pull perfect mug handles with me 😍 This video is all about pulling handles and attaching them by scratching and scoring using slip as a glue. It takes practice, like anything, to pull your perfect handle. Just make sure to keep alternating sides as you pull and use the 3 different hand strokes. Pay attention to your hand pressure depending on the stiffness of the clay that you are using. And ma...

Make mugs with Molly. Love the rhyme 😂 Wow, what an awesome throwing day 😍. As always, I wanted to share my clay journey with you. I am using about one and a quarter pound of speckled buff clay, by Laguna per mug. You will get to see how I center the clay, open it up, pull the walls, shape and trim while it’s still on the wheel. For glazing, I used homemade sticky vinyl stencils created on my c...

How I fix a flopped pot on the pottery wheel-embrace it 😂 This video is all about mistakes 😂 and fixing them..making the best out of a wonky pot and remaining flexible along the way. I started out throwing a planter using approximately 5 pounds of clay. I have been working on throwing and pulling taller walls. The planter got thrown off center due to a thin spot and going too fast on the wheel....

Thanks for the hairspray tip - I only ever put on one spray and they come out streaky
Your voice is soo soothing to me! What the heck. Have I ever told you that? Haha. So what was the orange glaze that you started your deglazing with? You said blue rutile but that looked like a totally different color. The final piece is stunnning!!!! Wow! I’ve had my satin patina combos run like craaazy! Glad it stayed on your pot! Did you put satin patina over the top portion too?😊
Looks good
I always look forward to your videos. Thank you, Vickie :)

GREAT video. I was taught a similar way but I need to just keep practicing. I started making several handles for each mug just to get more practice. I handbuild so I don’t make a ton of mugs at once. Love the finished pieces!❤
@@micheledickey4066 thank you!!!! There’s all kinds of ways that u wanna try like sticking a tootsie roll on the mug 😆 and pulling it from there. Never comes out good..I gotta keep trying! Love you girl…happy thanksgiving!!

@@thehappyhomesteadnh Oh ok. Hahaha. 😂
how does a stroke and coat run like it has here (the moody blue) when they usually stay put like an underglaze usually? Is it due to the muddy waters over top?
@@MissJB1985 it definitely needs a runny glaze under or over for it to run. I usually use pearl white or soft white by spectrum or honey flux by amaco. The muddy waters may work in its own w the stroke and coat but I’ve never tried it!
I love the beat!
@@MrSubieman oooooo you do SWEETIE? I want to say yut it - but I won’t on here 😂 nooooooo love you 😘
I love all your pottery wheel videos! May I make one suggestion? Can you angle the camera so we can see how you pull, shape and trim with the wooden knife? The camera is in the front so we can’t see how you are doing the techniques. I so agree that keeping your eyes closed really allows you to focus and feel what you are doing! 😊❤
@@MyMazyCat THANK YOU for helping me!!! Yes I’m currently working on new camera angles when I record! This is such honest helpful feedback and I appreciate it so much! More is on the way now that I have some help 😆 ❤️

@@Shawnreidpottery I am actually in the process of uploading a video on making and attaching handles! I pull them and then attach using slip..stay tuned for that video which will be up really soon! And thank you so much 😊
I think the orange on the refire looks magnificent. I love this colour. Being a teenager in the 70's I had a bedside lamp on a long metal stand with a bright round metal orange light shade. A rectangular mirror with rounded edges also in orange. The family kitchen table wad lime green and I still have it. I love this table 😅😊. So many nice glaze combinations. I'm wondering 🤔 if you placed the light at a different angle it would help with the reflections on the glazed pieces. Take care Happy potting

Ps. These glazes are all new for me but I was wondering how it would look if I simply substituted the seaweed with blue rutile? Does Blu rutile run similar to seaweed?

@ thanks so much! I’ve been wanting to do some of my urns midfire but haven’t found any inspiration til I discovered layered Amaco glazes… and love your work and your videos are so helpful!
@@SacredUrnsEtc-c6p awwwwww that made my day! I bet the urns would come out amazing especially if they have some curves! I always try to keep the layering to no more than halfway down - sometimes 1/3 down from the top so they don’t run onto the shelf. It depends on which temp u fire to. Cone 5 is way safer but won’t be as oozy as cone 6…the hotter the temp, the more they run!
@@thehappyhomesteadnh I e been studying lots of videos, mostly yours to see what would be good for my urns. I’m thinking the one with obsidian, merlot and oatmeal might be nice.
