Siren Marine review - Must have for any Boat!!
A short review on the the system we purchased to monitor our boat. We needed something to keep our minds at ease when our new to us 25ft trophy was moored at our local marina. We were not paid by Siren Marine nor have any affiliation with them, we just love this product and service.

    that much slop needs to be shimmed, facing your upper might help a little, but what if your barrel nut isn't machined square ? then what did you accomplish ?

    Made something similar several years ago. I used large snap swivels to attach zingers and other items. I've tried adding tippet spools, but I'm not sure I like the way I've attached them. Other then that mine has worked well. It's great in the kayak too.

    I take it that making sure the barrel surfaces and barrel nut surface are flat is not as important. Probably because they're steel and likely machined better?

    OK, that's for assembly. What about dis-assembly? How do you remove the barrel when that is necessary? Cured Loctite 620 retaining compound does not become elastic until 572°F.

    5:00 Headspacing DOES NOT happen between the outside of the barrel extension and the upper receiver. It DOES happer between the bolt and the barrel extension. I know you are probably thinking in terms of a bolt action but the headspace is set when they install barrel extensions on the barrel. headspace gauges are only needed if you install the barrel extension yourself

    He lost me with the headspace issue headspace is set by the barrel extension. And where is the anti seize or aero shell grease, he probably just galled the threads on his receiver. If anyone is watching this please continue to look at more content from others between that and common sense you can learn to do things in a way that won’t damage your gear.

    Use shim material from any auto parts store like you are supposed. Loc-Tite is bull shit for this, sure it works , but what do do you want that dried goop in their is beyond me. Shim ss comes as this one wrap around the tighten & you got it. Even without anything you'd been fine, that is what the barrel nut is for.

    • @pwn3426
      @pwn3426 Рік тому

      the loctite 620 works awesome for this and is much tighter than you will get with shim stock. I have done it both ways. People are so scared of the loc tite its hilarious tbh. It's not even a poroblem if you need to change the barrel later, heat gun and 30 seconds the barrel slides right out.

    You take material off the face you risk the extension moving to far into the upper (just a few thou) which will cause the feed ramps on the extension to overhang off the ramp cuts (m4 cut) in the upper.

    FWIW, lapping the front of the receiver is only going to get you part of the way there. That's a really loose fit. You need to add shim stock or get a custom barrel extension from BAT that's oversized the correct amount to fit your upper. You may not expect 1/4 MOA, but if your using a single round sled, an AR is capable of it. If you're ripping rounds out of a loaded mag, 1/2 MOA is pretty good in my book.

If your upper is so bad that you think it needs lapping, return it if it makes you feel better, because your shot grouping surely won’t.

    That's a machined surface lapping it isn't needed. When you lap you mate two surfaces like when valves are lapped into a valve seat. Your only doing one side on a part that's already flat you can't lap a surface flat you need to machine it flat.And stop using lock tight not needed and only creates problems later.
