Hello Sr , I do not see the black wire connection . best regards
Why aren't we using electric screwdrivers why just a plain old screwdriver takes forever to open this thing just saying
Clamps unpowered until connected to battery! Dude, the sticker is right there
It took me two seconds to figure out what you just said no battery connection no power LOL
I saw a video that a guy added a toggle switch and jumped it to manual and made it power without even connecting it that was great then you could turn off the toggle and it would go back to automatic charging
You should not do this to a battery charger. You just bought from Arbor freight. You should leave it like it is and get a battery andtestive more or less. This charger also lets you know whether the battery has power in it or not. Because it has a sensor intelligent breaker on it or should I say intelligent sensor breaker on it to protect you from electrical shock or battery explosion? Please handle with care when using this battery charger.
You never showed us where or how you did your wiring, nor did you show the two little what ever they are that you attached in the wiring. You were more excited to show your sparky sparks than anything......just saying.... Waisted 20 mins of my time...
I have one of these chargers. It has a problem with charging. I am a retired electronic engineer. I started reverse engineering my unit. It is the exact same unit you have. I found out that it is a Silicon Controlled Rectifier based charging circuit thus it has no Bridge Rectifier. That component you pointed out as being a Bridge Rectifier is actually a transformer used to provide power for the control circuit for the SCRs. I am still working out all the details here. due to the size of the components, Surface Mounted, its difficult to identify what type and value of each. If any body is interested in how this type of charger works you can search for SCR Based battery charger here on UA-cam.
You're a gem, thanks for posting and sharing your experience and knowledge.
Can show how to wire your voltage divider, what value is your resistors you use?
saw doing it cheap do this u soder to points together and put a switch in it to make it turn off when u need it to
Are there anything in the magic black tape ??? Connection? Resistors??? It is an important part, not using screwdriver to open the box waste time. Thank you.
Stupid thing to do tearing apart that battery charger especially if it's brand new you don't know what you are doing.
Maybe 20 30 volts DC current
You will need a battery for this process and experiment for this type of charger that you have
I seen another guy he was inside and disconnect black wirer + to a small circuit board did the same thing just sayin.
Dam witch ones did you put togeter
So where do we solder the switch wires to exactly? I realize he did it does not show where to solder both ends.
Please dear god I'm begging yall dont do this it is extremely dangerous and has killed over thirty people already, I promise it's not worth it. Stay safe
😂😂😂😂
It would be really nice if you could just buy a "dumb" battery charger for etching and electrolysis. Everyone in their tutorials says, "get yourself a non-smart battery charger." Problem is I don't think anyone makes them. I had hoped this battery charger wasn't smart because it says "manual" on it but it's not or at least it's not dumb enough for what we want to use it for! 😂😂
Just have a look on ebay. There is plenty of old fashioned battery chargers there.
You need to get yourself one of those cone shaped sheet metal bits. They work awesome for a procedure like this and your holes end up more circular too.
Step drill bits?
@@onlylettersatozornum haha yeah that's what they're called! 😂
Quick question since I didn’t see that part / Voltage divider underneath the black tape is all three wires solder together with heat shrink . One goes to ground the other one to current and the other to the 18v ??? Am doing the same thing / does it Automatically stop charging the battery or is it constant Voltage. ???
The newer version of this charger has completely different circuitry inside, but I got it to work for electrolysis, resistance soldering, etc. See my lengthy comment in Part 2 of this series for the "how-to."
I don't know if anyone is reading this thread anymore, but I thought I'd leave this for posterity: I got the 2022 version of this battery charger to work. I'm using it for resistance soldering, but it doesn't matter what the end use is -- you'll get 12v out of the clamps. The circuitry in the 2022 version is indeed different from what's shown in the video. How I got it to work: there's a red wire that's attached to one side of the internal circuit breaker and runs to a circuit board on the other side of the charger. (The circuit breaker is wired in series through the meter and is mounted on the unit's base.) Remove that from the circuit breaker. I used an old Radio Shack wall wart transformer set to 4.5 vdc. I attached the positive lead of the transformer to the red wire that goes to the charger's circuit board, and attached the negative lead to the grounding plate that's at the back of the inside of the charger. That fakes the charger's circuit into thinking there's a battery attached to the clamps. That's it. The charger LED will light and you'll get 12vdc from the clamps. If you attach the wall wart backwards the red "wiring connection" LED will light. To make the unit do double duty, I added a single-pole double-throw switch and two external contact points to the plastic portion of the front of the charger. When the switch is thrown one way, the red wire inside is attached to the circuit breaker, same as normal, and I can use the unit as a charger. When it's thrown the other way and the external wall wart transformer is connected to the external contact points (simple bolts), the charger works as a transformer for m resistance soldering. The center pole on the switch is connected to the red wire inside that goes to the circuit board. One side is connected to the circuit breaker, and the other side is connected to the + external terminal for the wall wart. The other external contact for the wall wart is wired directly to the grounding plate. Works great!
A lot of good electrical knowledge from you and your commenters, I don't quite understand it, but if the charger was new, why not take it back?
He is not wanting to charge a battery (as intended). He is going to use it for a different purpose that it was created and sold for. He wants to use it for fractal wood burning. If the safety mechanism works correctly it won’t burn the wood.
I got Bob Ross vibes watching this. Thanks for the video.
Trickle charging with the part 2 video method: Are you able to change amperage (2, 10 or 50)? Or does it only go to its lowest amperage which is 2?
I'm waiting for a standard size cup model. I would rather not have to resize my recipes to fill six or twelve cups. Lodge, are you listening?
Really?
the "idiot proofing" of all things has ruined it for the common man who has enough sense not to do stupid stuff, we are now stuck with rigging our equipment to work as it was designed to work...
How about installing the 12vdc wall wart adapter in the charger box. Then connect the positive and negative of the wart to the pos and neg thick wires main charging cables. But have 1 of the little wart wires go through a switch? Momentary or latching, depending on what works best for your unit
Brilliant video! Do you have the dimensions?
I'm wondering as to how many watts each UV light is? How many inches are lights from the glass? Is the glass Star Glass or just a tempered non UV light clean/clear without any bubble type within the glass. Wiat is the amount of how many seconds will the photo resist burn thru?
What is the connector called that you use to separate the polarities of the 12 Volt Adapter and where did you buy it.
I want to use my charger like normal but I want to be able to flip a switch so the +&- have power without connected to a battery can someone please tell me how to do that on my battery charger
On the charger when he pushed the button it sounded like a relay kicked in (if that's the case the voltage sensed powers the relay) adding a toggle switch in parallel to the relay contacts would bypass the relay giving you your desired result.
@@TopCat2021 just now saw this comment would you be able to show me exactly what I needed to do or just help me find out what I need to do
complete fucking wast of time !!
So I did a dry run in this and a 9v did trigger it,but it would hold in the charging mode when I opened the circuit, now could this be because I wasn't hooked up in electrolyte?
This video was really helpful actually but I ended up utilizing a different method to get the same result, as it was a slightly different charger with a seemingly more convenient way to accomplish this. But I was wondering if you had an easy way to load the power supply? I have a current clamp rated at 200Adc, and I want to make sure my unit can actually do the rated 50A. I just don't actually have anything that can take 50A@12Vdc continues.
Harbor freight sells step bits lol
Very nice and well explained video can you send me the dimensions of the box and what the 2 units at back. I suppose they are the transformers for the black lights. I am looking to use an exposer unit for solar plates. Thank you in advance for the time you impart to my requests. Emile <michel
Thanks for sharing this video. Without making any modifications to my charger (older version of the one in the video), I got the chager to start electrolysis with a 9 volt battery. All you need is a little jump start and the charger will go on.
Wish I saw this great vid before I bought these wee little muffin pan though I do love how it cooks corn bread
the hack worked o the model you used they changed boards and I can't find any AC voltage except for a constant 53 dc volts I can't even see a a volt rectifier (I can identify with ) CAN U HELP??
Love the permanent solution and the work around is AWESOME! Thanks!
you have an automatic battery charger. it went to trickle mode. had you used a battery to trick it into running, it would have chewed it to the bone
that dark color is magnetite. the "black sand" the gold hangs out with in the wild. =)
what liquid are you using. is it just water.
Not water. Many people use a solution of wash soda also called soda ash, not to be confused with baking soda. It’s a 1/2 cup soda ash to 5 gallons water. There are other electrolyte solutions as well. Hope that helps.
It's doubled in price at $60.
$30 this month. Sometimes they take the additional 20% discount coupon also.
Life saver. Trying to reverse electroplate n got this n was pissed lol
Thanks man! I was getting frustrated with same charger, specifically for electrolysis, and you helped me out totally.
My aluminum non-stick loaf pans did not last long. I might buy a couple of loaf pans. Thanks!
I want a cast iron muffin oan, but this one looks just small enough to be pointless. I want to eat 1 muffin for breakfast, not 3.
I wish you had shown the results
Why are they doing this?? This is the second video I've seen about this. Are they trying to stop people from doing electrolysis. This makes me want to break the law even more. Hey but anyway bro, if you're good with electronics then the money's in modding Xboxes and game consoles. You can make a lot of money doing that. You should look into it you seem very competent. Just be observation
These chargers won't power the leads until it senses a battery being connected. In this case, no voltage being sensed by the charger means the charger won't power up. Also, it means if you're trying to charge a very dead battery, it won't kick on, which is annoying as fuck.
they are trying to stop from getting sued by stupid people.. its a safety device. what they should do is provide the bypass from the factory.
