It is refreshing to hear someone point out the glaring flaws in this franchise, which insult the intelligence of the viewers.

1:35:50 - I would say that Grave of the Fireflies does have many tie-ins with rest of the Ghibli library despite the fact it feels extremely different. The themes of war and childhood are prominent in many Ghibli films, and note that it was released as a companion to My Neighbor Totoro [edit: as you mention!], which is also about two siblings largely fending for themselves in the absence of their mother (the shared umbrella/piggyback image is no coincidence). I watched it about a decade ago and with the English dub, so I'm trying to find a good time to watch it in the original Japanese.

59:38 - How do we know that the war was a grander scheme to teach Howl about love? I assumed that Suliman said it was time to end the war because the prince had been found.

LIVING DAYLIGHTS for me, had a great first half, but a dissapointing second half. Much more prefer LISCENSE TO KILL, which I have a the second best Bond film of all time. Ahead, CASINO ROYALE, but had to really see it on my thrid look to really like it a lot. Third best FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, followed by ON HER MAJESTY SECRET SERVICE.

I have to admit not having seen THE SPY WHO LOVED ME since it was released. I remember hearing how good it was, and when I went to see it, I was kind of dissapointed in it. Maybe if I see it again, at my age now, I will have a different oppinion. Of all the Moore films, enjoyed most MOONRAKER. Perhaps because i did not have high expectations. At the time, I saw it on a double bill with ALIEN. After seeing ALIEN, I guess it worked pretty well. Agree with FOR YOUR EYES ONLY. I went to see that, and for me, it was a real dull entry. I never went to the movie theater to see again a RODGER MOORE bond. Maybe I should say ROGER BORE.

i firmly believe that ghibli rankings aside from the bottom 3 can be anyones favorite movie and it be a valid opinion. but i cant help but feel you gave an unfair view to from up on poppy hill. i think its one of the strongest written film and it also had a ton of input from hayao miyzaki. so just calling it a goro movie and keeping it below less impactful movies seemingly for that reason i think is a bit strange. 10/10 video otherwise

What an excellent analysis of the catalogue of Bond films. I agree with the list on the whole, but not sure how Diamonds Are Forever is so low, and Die Another Day is not rooted firmly at #26 (shame it can't be lower and consigned to the dustbin). Still, that's the beauty of composing a subjective list and the ensuing debate. Top work!

I still can't get around how much I hate Daniel Craig as Bond. He ticks so few boxes of what Bond is supposed to be. He lacked charm, good looks, class, humour and style. He made Bond into a British Jason Bourne, and that is not a compliment.

  • @robcousins231

Terrible analysis of Solus to be honest. It showed other levels to Bond, deeper, more human. The analysis sounds like Star Wars fanbois whining about Rogue One and Andor because they don't have the childish 'force' front and centre. The death scene of Mathis is perfect Bond.

Small note as I am watching this, Golden Gun holds a small special place, as it was the first one I saw as a kid on ABC Saturday Night Movie Special, staying up late at my best friend's house. We always heard about James Bond, but always had to go to bed when the music came on. We felt great...even though it is certainly not anywhere near the best.

Interesting rankings with great takes, but I don’t fully get how you say the scene containing the death of the main villain in Live and Let Die is so bad (which it is), yet don’t mention how equally monstrously bad in your no.2 pick Thunderball near the end when the main villain is also killed, it’s during the long awful run with the boat on serious fast forward, it’s just as laughable. Also no mention of the awful Pepper and how he could ruin LALD and TMWTGG. Sorry for those pick outs it was a very good video nonetheless.

Diamonds Are Forever is way worse than Quantum of Solace. QoS at least had proper acting and some Scenes were good. I personally think another 15-20min run time and QoS would be a very solid Bond movie. DaF was just a joke (as much as i love Connery). I would also put QoS in front of Die Another Day. DAD is the biggest fQ%k up in the franchise. One of the (if not the) best beginning of a Bond and then it just went downhill. By the way, your video is top and very entertaining. 2 hrs just flew by 😁

It's your opinions, of course, but you must be one of very few people who loved Timothy Dalton as James Bond, ranking his 2 films above many nearly universal fan and critical favorites such as Casino Royale. Most people find Dalton joyless and humorless as 007, and had no chemistry with his Bond girls. He never seemed to enjoy being Bond, even less so than Brosnan.

I agree on Thunderball, Ive never understood why people dont like it. It was always one of my favourites as a kid and it still is today. I always thought Sir Sean Connery was the only Bond. The rest were imitators. I actually read the original novels or some of them 25 years ago. James Bond in the novels was much different from the movie character and much more dependent on following orders from MI6 than acting on his own. He was just an agent of government policy , not a free agent. In that regard though I developed a theory to explain the different actors playing Bond something like Dr. Who. Theory: James Bond was a cover name for Agent 007. When one Agent 007 was killed another person assumed the identity of Agent 007 known as “ James Bond”. No photos were taken of James Bond so no one knew what he looked like. Any photos of James Bond would be called a fake or an imitator of the real Agent 007 so no one could be sure of what he looked like. That might include verbal descriptions that would be denied by MI6. Who he really was was a secret to everyone except M the director of MI6 , the Prime Minister and if necessary Her Royal Majesty the Queen as in “ Her Majesty’s Secret Service”. As an old Canadian ex pat I grew up with Queen Elizabeth as always being the Queen. I don’t know about others but she was sort of a mother figure as she was about the same age as my mother who was of British heritage and loooked a bit like Her Majesty and gave royal commands that must be obeyed. “ Yes mother.”. James Bond fit in that mold in relation to the Queen. “ Yes Ma’am. As you wish Ma’am.” “ Now be off with you and do your job as I have instructed you.” I feel that way skiing down the Alps with a ticking time bomb looking for a place to throw it so it won’t cause an avalanche and bury that quaint Swiss village below before it goes off in my hands while dodging machine gun fire from a hovering helicopter above. Then make a spectacular ski jump and throw it into the open door of the helicopter just as it goes off as I slew right on my skis behind some tall evergreen trees to avoid being hit by shrapnel from the explosion and into the arms of a beautiful, sexy French Swiss girl waiting for me with a martini in the village square. Just my average day.

I remember my 15 year old older brother coming home in 1962 all excited about seeing some movie ( Dr. No)starring as he pronounced,” Seen” Connery. It was some kind of exciting action movie I at 11 years old couldn’t understand. Years later James Bond movie photos started turning up in photo magazines like “ Look” my mother read. I recal the photo of the “ golden girl” apparently naked in bed which stirred up my teenage hormones and Bond on the table as a red laser beam approached his most important appendage. Exciting. But thinking back I may never have seen a James Bond movie on the silver screen. Not even with “ Seen” Connery.I only saw them on TV or video later and to me only Sean Connery was the real Bond. Roger Moore was “ The Saint” by Leslie Charteris the very worst writer that ever got published. Roger was OK though. Another reason why I never saw any James Bond movies at the cinema was I would have to pay to see an imitator playing Bond. That was a double insult.

No Time To Die is the worst James Bond movie ever. A woke disaster that makes zero meaning. A disgust to all James Bond fans. Fundamentally pissing all over us. Even my wife that only likes Bond movies due to his 6-pack and him being single through decades. Let’s be honest James Bond is not some tosser bloke who likes purple hair or a drag in a down town show. He lands women that mostly dies, villains and crazy gadgets in mind blowing sceneries. There is no such thing as one villain over ‘27 movies’. He fights one by one movie by movie. Craig’s narcissism demanded the death of James Bond connected to his exit whereby James Bond is way bigger than Craig will ever be, while none of his James Bond movies were anything special. The Broccoli family got fooled and probably thought killing their cash-cow was a high course to be pulled through no matter what common sense told them, as it always is with being woke ( just look at Disney). What a huge mistake that is impossible to come back from.
