The first Volkswagen ID. series concept vehicle, simply named the Volkswagen ID., was unveiled at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. This groundbreaking concept marked the debut of Volkswagen's ID series and showcased the brand's commitment to an all-electric future.
The production version of this concept vehicle was later released as the Volkswagen ID.3 in 2019. Positioned as an electric compact car, the ID.3 became the first vehicle built on Volkswagen's dedicated Modular Electric Drive Matrix platform. It was designed to deliver accessible, zero-emission transportation without compromising on performance, comfort, or affordability. The ID.3 has since become a symbol of Volkswagen's transition toward carbon-neutral mobility, playing a pivotal role in the company's electric vehicle lineup.

Buggy generated significant buzz and had potential for limited production. Despite its unique appeal and enthusiastic reception, Volkswagen eventually canceled production plans.

Volkswagen has not yet confirmed pricing for its entry-level EVs, but the automaker aims for a starting price of around €20,000 for models like the ID Life. This affordability aligns with the company’s vision of making electric mobility accessible to a broader audience. By 2030, Volkswagen projects that 70% of its European sales and 50% of its US and China sales will come from electric vehicles, reflecting its commitment to a sustainable, electric future.
