I'm developing a collection of simple videos that are intended to document many of my outdoor adventures. The goal is to create basic videos that use a minimum of editing and producing. The focus of each video is intended to be the scenery, not me.

Encounter with a bear cub (unedited)

I had this encounter during a run near my home in rural Wisconsin. I had seen a momma and two cubs in this same area just two days before.

This was the first time I attempted a 24-hour race. It was a 1 mile loop in a park in Salem, Oregon. You have 24 hours to complete as many laps of the course as you want. I completed 40 miles. This race is run on a beautiful course in the hills surrounding Ely, Nevada. The elevation ranges between 7,000 and 8,000 feet. It is well organized and the volunteers were friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this run.

This trail race in Idaho was one of the toughest races I have done. It had a lot of climbing and descending and reached an altitude of 11,000 ft.

I am so glad that I stumbled upon your video! I ran this that same year, but I did not finish. The heat won and I dropped at the last aid station. This Saturday I am returning for another attempt! I too hope to be successful as you were!

I really didn't follow a specific plan. Honestly, I was a little undertrained. I did find that doing back-to-back long training runs on the weekends helped.

Me and a friend ran the Under the Rim Trail there a couple of years ago. The place is amazingly beautiful. Saw one other guy all day. he was stumbling around in a dry creek lost. We got him back on course. He was totally unprepared. Great video really enjoyed watching - good job 😀🏃♂️🏃♂️

Congratulations on your run! A real tough one! I will be doing the 30k (19 or so miles) this spring 2021. Pretty sure covid restrictions will still be in place, but I've run a couple of other VR races during covid, and they do a good job. The beginning is a lot greener than I had imagined. Now, I will have to see where our courses diverge. I hope my 30k gets into some of the rocks! Thanks for the film. Did you use goPro or your phone?

Excellent video! You did such a nice job of letting the spectacular landscape speak for itself and not relying upon music or spoken dialogue to be the focus. I love how you stopped to photograph the flora and aspects like bark on trees. It’s quite artistic. Plus, gotta give kudos for your Birkie hat!! I’ve done the Birkie a few times and love it. Now giving serious thought to the Bryce 100. It’s going to be that or the Black Hills 100. Your video may have just tipped the balance. Thanks again for sharing this beauty
Thank you for the kind words. I really do try to capture the landscapes in which I run. No one really wants to see me, so I show them the views. Those are much more attractive. :-)

Great job Robert and thank you for posting! I was there too; it is a wonderful race in a beautiful location. There are many trail races on my to-do-list, but I definitely will return to the MDHT again!
