How to start MindCuber-RI Rubik Solver for Mindstorms Robot Inventor 51515
The video shows how to start the program for MindCuber-RI by David Gilday.
There are instructions at David’s site (www.mindcuber.com/mindcuberri/mindcuberri.html) but if you get stuck, maybe this video will help.
After running the first two programs, you might get a message “The hub OS needs to be updated”. The update is probably not needed and, if you do it, the loaded programs will be erased, and you will have to start again. In case of the message, you should unplug the hub, turn it off, wait a bit, turn it on and connect the hub again.
You can see the video of the solver in action at ua-cam.com/video/_cl2Wur8waY/v-deo.html

MindCuber-RI - Rubik Solver for Mindstorms Robot Inventor 51515

The latest build by David Gilday! We have waited quite a bit for David Gilday’s MindCuber built specifically for LEGO Mindstorms Robot Inventor set, but it was worth it. The build is PERFECT. It looks fabulous and works great. All four motors are put to good use, even if some of us were wondering how it will be done. The cube flipping system and the scanning arm are the best so far among standa...

UPDATE: The method used to load the program into Mindstorms hub does not work with latest firmware. I have fixed it by using the same method used in MindCuber-RI. The whole thing is written by David Gilday anyway and all the credit goes to him. My son Marin (10) just made a simple Mecanum car using LEGO Mindstorms Robot Inventor kit (51515) and Chinese Mecanum wheels. The car is controlled with an Xbox controller. He had some problems writing the software, so I helped him out. The program is written in Scratch and must be started in streaming mode. There is some lag while controlling the car. This is unfortunate and we hope there will...

EV3 MindCub3r (a great design by David Gilday - www.mindcuber.com) built by my son. There were frequent scanning errors with the original build, which is limited by using the EV3 Home Edition parts only, but the fix by Hans-Werner Albrecht worked (ua-cam.com/video/euO4C-98DxM/v-deo.html). However, then some cube grabbing problems appeared. The first fix we have tried worked perfectly (two flexi...
I want to make another Lego MINDSTORMS Rubik’s cube solving robot, but the only thing is, is that I don’t know how to code one. Could you give me some tips for the coding plz?? (I have little experience with using python.) Thanks!!
@@JackHenryIcefreezincold-e6s The code used here is from the David Gilday'd site mindcuber.com. The code is open, so you should start with understanding of that code. Good luck!
Hello Mladen, I have built the LEGO Robot Inventor 51515 Rubik's Cube Solver from you and your son, although I have previously built the Mindcuber RI, which works much faster. I would like to see what your solution looks like. The Robot works well - I was able to solve the scanning problems. You wrote that there were problems with installing the large tables - I would like to try installing them. Have you tried to do this with the 40 small programmes via the LEGO Spike app or is there a single programme for this? I would be pleased to receive an answer. Tanamueh
@@winfriedmetzler2756 Hi! I haven't really invested much time into the problem as the point was just to help my son and he was happy with the basic solver. Also, I haven't done any testing with Spike FW. Now he has moved to other things and he hasn't even built that robot for quite some time. It was before Mindcuber RI was released, which is superior in every way. I'm sorry I can't help you more with this.
@@mladendOK- thanks for your reply
How do I showcase some mods that I made to the robot?

Thanks, I will! 😊
Tell your son that he did a super good job! :)
I love this built tho
Its not scanning. I'v tried EVERYTHINNG and its still not scanning. It does it like 15 times! plz help me solve this problem.
I have put all the advices I could think off in the description. Also, there are some tricks in the follow-up video. I wish you good luck.
@@mladend I watched it all
and it still didn't work
@@AaronGreenberg-r6v If everything looks fine mechanically while scanning, I would try: different lighting, rubberband mod and different cube.
@@mladend I'm using a GAN 14 Maglev I I triple checked the parts and the build
The File: MCRISolver doesn't show up in the extracted files. Please help
I have just checked David's site. There is a new version of the code and one of the changes mentioned in README.txt is "re-structure code into a single file".
😊
the link does not work!
I have tested the links and the only link which is not working is to Orione's web site, put in the description for crediting purposes. There was nothing behind that link required for the build.
@@mladend Thanks for the answer, and another question, in the mindcuber ev4, the phyton programming does not work because when I start the program the 2 levers close and the cube cannot be inserted
@@emilioledesmaherrada1680 My first thought is that connections are not done properly. Is an arrow shown on the brick after starting the program?
how to make it?
Everything should be in the description. What are you missing?
Мой кубик сканируется три раза и всё
Can you please send the 2021 program that you are using?
Because 2023 program is not work, ing
It is also available on the mindcuber.com site: mindcuber.com/mindcuberri/MindCuber-RI-v1p0.zip
@@mladend Thank you
is there code to scramble the cube?
I don't have it. The code is open so it should be relatively easy to add scrambling, e.g. if a solved cube is inserted.
Can you send a tutorial?
Everything should be available at David's site mindcuber.com
I have no words how to thank you for everything this is so I have been on the code for so long and I found out that you actually showed the code
I am glad you like it. In case of this build, the credit goes to David Gilday.
Sometimes it workes and sometimes white is green. I tryed a flashlight and other different lights, do you have any different ideas how it can work better?
Interesting. Have you tried with a different cube?
is it 56 mm?
Works for the standard cube size (~57mm). I guess 56mm works fine, too.
Wow! Just WOW!
Amazing for only the Robot inventor
Hmm, it worked but after switching off and on it only worked once more, the next time is was started up the program would not run. Any ideas??
Repeat the software installation part. If it still isn't working, check the connections. Good luck!
@@mladend Ok, thanks
Absolutely fantastic, just built this as a second project and it worked first time, very nice build, thanks.
I did all the steps in order and yet all it did was scan it once and signal an up arrow and when I took it out, it started spinning the cradle and never stopped. Can you help me?
I am not sure. Try checking if every cable is connected to the right port.
@@mladend I fixed that but now when I run the program, all it does is scan the thing over and over again.
I did something weird and now it’s working! Thanks! I love it!
@@gracezhang9633 Great! 😊👍
@@gracezhang9633 What did you do to solve it? I’m having the same problem and I can’t solve it.

I suggest checking the following video, from the "start the program" part: ua-cam.com/video/kWZK4g2fO8I/v-deo.html While the programs are not identical, starting is the same. Maybe you have missed a step.
ok cool, but when is angyone with a big frickin robot inventor set gonna build something better, new, original, that's never done before or improve robots like that bc that's just really repetitive and everyone's made one that's just the same thing

you don't know where the wires belong? We did it according to the instructions and when we downloaded the program, it didn't work.
I love this model. it is similar with the last 2 generation!
Hi, any idea why the robot just keep to color scan so many times, even take out from cradle when it show "Up arrow" and put cube into cradle again when it show "down arrow" many times. But the robot still not to start to work. Thanks It's amazing robot and just hope I could run successfully, too.
The robot tries 3 times to find a solvable configuration and then gives up. You could try under different light. Also, you could film the robot while scanning (in slo-mo if possible) and then check if the scanning head is in expected positions.

@@sugreig4380 Good job with the videos! 👍Cube flipping works properly so I guess that part of assembly is fine. i believe it is something with the scanning arm. It seems to me that the arm does not extend enough to scan the center piece. You should check there is nothing that prevents the arm to fully extend (e.g. a tight cable) and that everything is assembled properly (e.g. not off by one hole). Turning on the scanning light is great for debugging as it clearly shows where the scanner is pointing and it seems to me that it is off when trying to scan the center piece.
@@mladend You are so kind and awesome to help me find the bug.It can work now! Though I also thought it may cause by wrong assembly or cable routing at the beginning. But since the mechanical arm can work by manually so I thought it may be other problems. After your advice,I check again more detail and found cable routing slightly different from yours model. After correct cable routing, it finally work. It's so great and my son is very happy now since he almost assembled this model by himself.Haha...I haven't learn python before so I still have no idea how it work to solve the cube.I almost give up to fix the bug and thanks for your help again.👍 ua-cam.com/video/9f2Ze6IejW8/v-deo.html

does it work with a 2x2 cube?
No, you will have to manage without a robot. ;)
@@mladend ok thank you :(
I did all the steps. But my solver only scan the cube 3 times them stop working. Could you advice me please how to fix this
It means the program hasn't found a valid cube configuration and gave up after three tries. Typically, it indicates a scanning problem. Try under different light, or more light, for start. You could try filming (ideally slo-mo) the scanning head to see if it is at the right square. Check if the cables are lose enough. Good luck and let us know what worked.
@@mladend thank you alot for your creative project. I finished it the problem was color sensor and it's wire and fixed it. Waiting for your next project.

Even those with amazing power of observation (like yours?) could come to a wrong conclusion if they skip collecting the facts. Please, read the video description and then repeat your accusation. Just in case, here are the main facts in few, easy to read sentences. My son has adapted the LEGO Prime design made by David Gilday. Greta Galli made a video of building the design and Orione created the instructions based on her video. Credit is given to all involved - in the video description.
I did everything correctly but my bot doesn’t move and makes a weird soun
I don't know, but... Something could be stuck. Every moving part should have some slack and should move easily if disconnected from a motor. Weird sounds usually come from gears.

Does it work better with a stickered cube better.
If it works, it works with both stickered and stickerless cubes. I *think* stickerless could be a bit better as the area is bigger for the color scanner.
