I freaking love Rypdal's guitar-playing and have from the first time I heard it, almost 40 years ago. And thes muisicians he played with are all aweome too.
Can anyone explain what happens to Palle´s trumpet starting 8:34? I hear the trumpets notes before he actually plays. I know about the issues of old magnet tape recordings. But this is strange, since I expect this a digital recording.
It is nonetheless quite sad to see him in this bloated physical condition. At an Oslo concert, he was also walking with a cane. Great music but very sad.:(
Que acierto Paolo, bellísimo, ya lo compartí antes del término. Que imágen, que sonido y los músicos, que hablar. Me uno a @Leslie Nelson y seguramente a muchos otros. Muchas gracias.
The music of Rypdal &Mikkelborg woke me up in the city of Oxford and sińce that time I became a notorious listener of my ECM heroes.Wojciech Pawłowski .
Terje Rypdal is THE Ultimate Electric Guitarist for me! It's mind-boggling that he is not revered as the living Torch-bearer of Hendrix's legacy! As a Texturalist - he has no peers, except maybe - David Torn, and Brandon Ross (Harriet Tubman). He is in that Guitar Pantheon of players like McLaughlin, Abercrombie, Holdsworth, Kurt Rosenwinkel ... but on Mount Olympus - he is Zeus!
👍 Des musiciens de jazz , qui joue avec l’énergie d’un groupe de rock avec un super son, des musiciens exceptionnels, mené de main de maître par le guitariste Terje Rypdal
This is incredible, I have came back to listen to this many times. Terje is a true original, he plays like no other!! and of course all the players are amazing as well. I'm thankful that there are musicians like this in the world, that take their own path. Bravo! and thank you for the upload
"I'm sure you'll recognize this lovely melody as 'Stranger in Paradise'. But did you know that the original theme is from the 'Polovetsian Dance No. 2' by Borodin." (old TV ad)
I only hear that on Mikkelborg's trumpet in some passages. Which must be a deliberate effect. Although it may sound like it this is not a free form jam but structured pieces and he must play along to some pre-recorded music.
I hear it on all the instruments - check Staale at 11.56 and 12.06 - you can hear the run happen before he plays it. It's more noticable on Mikkelborg as it is high frequency. You can hear it on Rypdal's opening high notes in a phrase eg 34.02, thereafter it is disguised by his delay pedal. There is no prerecorded music - I think it might be an artifact of uploading to UA-cam.
Top od the top...

You're right, the reverb plays the melody before the trumpet :) I don't understand, like you, weird.
Colossi from an era out of this world . . .

i'm curious as to how they get that pre-delay of the notes yet to come out of the instrument somtimes, or am i hearing things?
Good question . Samples/ Recording I think done ahead ....
fantastic...
Does anyone know the song names? Is any of this out on cd?
Yes, i'd like to know as well....especially the theme played by Mikkelborg started around ~ 8:30 into it

Is it just me or is there a strange pre-echo of the audio on this? Great concert and footage though! - just strange to hear a preview of each note...
