The only amazing thing is how they can all work in such filth and squalor. Even poor people can afford and use a broom, or even in a lot of these cases, a shovel, to clean their workspace to a civilised condition.

These factories are filled with workers who are more than capable, but the environment completely lacks structure. If they adopted some of the modern tequiques, 5S, LEAN, KAISAN etc, the process, safety and quality would improve tenfold. It wouldn't even be that expensive. Time is being lost everywhere you look... and therefore money.
