arps' Mostly Demoscene
United Kingdom
Приєднався 27 бер 2008
My aim is to make captures of Amiga demoscene productions that aren't currently available on youtube. I'm digging through pouet to find the underappreciated gems. Occasionally I might post something that's already done but for the time being the focus is purely on those that haven't been captured yet.
Currently the captures are from WinUAE, I don't have real hardware anymore but won't rule it out for the future. My ultimate aim in all of this is to create my own production so once I have some progress in that area you'll probably see some videos of that process too.
If any groups/authors have a problem with their productions appearing in this format please let me know - I'll be happy to remove a video if you'd like me to.

Lunatics - Incantation (Amiga Demoscene)
This is a weird little one, the graphics for the intro animation are pretty nice so it's forgiven for the slow pacing and then following that we've got a few different effects. The one from the thumbnail I thought most interesting, think they called it 'Elasticated copper bars' or something along those lines, quite a unique one I don't think I've seen before. You'll notice at the end there's some sort of corruption going on, I don't think it's configuration related and since it already told us it was finished, I figured it was worthy enough of an upload, despite having no idea what should've been happening during that portion (if anything at all - hit up the comments if you know!)

This is amazing! I'll get the only complaint out of the way first - the cockpit based scenes are not holding up that well today, I think perhaps because it's too sterile or something but aside from that this is a demo of two halves - a thematic story driven space exploration with some vector effects and a second half with some extremely nice scrollers and a more typical slideshow of effects. 'Tunesday' sounds a bit like 'Tuesday' doesn't it? So using that rather clever conceit I have come up with this concept where I will upload a new musicdisk capture every Tuesday and call it Musicdisk Tunesday. Really nicely presented AGA disk - I actually rated all of the tunes on this one although my favourite is Synthetic Roots by Dascon. Scroll text is rather pessimistic and mentions that no...

Firstly, please forgive the brief glimpse under the hood right at the end, I forgot about my hotkeys for a second ;) Really nice little (dem/intr)o here - slightly bittersweet, our scroll text writer is telling us all about his story in the demoscene and how he's leaving it behind for IBM compatibles and school work.. It's got a nice tune and really decent design choices have been made - I deci...

Lovely presentation on this one! As per usual I can't say much about the technical prowess but it's put together really nicely with a funky tune and some nice graphics. Enjoyed the fake WB 2.x window and the vector thing and especially liked the text writing routine. Great production with a short scroll at the end, A , would watch again :) m.pouet.net/prod.php?which=91548 platform: Amiga AGA ty...

Oops! Reupload because previous one had no audio for some unfathomable reason... Quite enjoyed this little one-screen intro, I'm a fan of that text rotating text thing - always makes me try and think of how it'd be coded, I'm still none-the-wiser. Tune in this one isn't bad although it could probably have developed a bit from where it ends. Anyway, considering how early this one is, it's really...

So using that rather clever conceit I have come up with this concept where I will upload a new musicdisk capture every Tuesday and call it Musicdisk Tunesday. Nicely presented with a striking graphic to start with and a decent 'Rebels' logo framing things. Really nice plasma effects and speedy filled vectors. I enjoyed the tune but it's a touch short considering the length of this production, which I have unfortunately cut short after being defeated by a difficult to read font and a massive amount of scrolltext. Still, worth my time and yours :) www....

A fairly simple affair but I actually really enjoyed this one - the music was really nice, futuristic sounding and we're basically shown a bunch of different text writing effects with subtle pastel coloured copper rainbows on a nice font. www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=96841 platform: Amiga OCS/ECS type: intro release year: 1991

So this one is complaining about a missing file on the disk so we're missing the scroll text - it was uploaded as an lha to pouet and I just lazily booted in UAE and I assume it just grabbed the executable and ran that instead of making a disk image with the text. Anyway, to save myself the bother of doing it again, and to save you the bother of having to sit through it, the text is included be...

So using that rather clever conceit I have come up with this concept where I will upload a new musicdisk capture every Tuesday and call it Musicdisk Tunesday. Wow! What an assault for the senses this one turned out to be :D I have a method to find stuff that isn't on UA-cam which is basically open a ton of tabs and then find productions that don't have YT links, the pouët thumbnail had me intrigued for this one, though, so I thought I'd watch it but unfortunately the only captures were older, at lower resolutions so I thought this'd be fair game for an up...

Back in the game! After a brief hiccup with my CPU cooler, we're now back and normal service will resume. Nice little dentro from the Australian group 'Pearl', nice and heavy soundtrack and we're treated to a decent number of effects including glenz vectors, a lit cube, some other vector stuff and a starfield. Good job 👍 - Though I will get violently sick if I stare at this for more than 20sec lol - But: really appreciated the soundtrack, as you say 👌 👌👌
Does what it says on the tin haha
I appreciate this
The music of the first part reminds me very much of Elysium by Jester/Sanity. A very influential track, that one.
Coded by my brother (Ninja) way back during the glorious 90s.
Was this an OCS demo? A few neat ones for the Amiga 500 are these: ua-cam.com/video/iD9xk3SDSYc/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/JJczdYO8N1c/v-deo.html
@@Nebulous6 yes it's OCS. Thanks for the recommendations, the black lotus one is cool... Check out the recent "inside the Machine" by Desire if you want to see something brand new on A500 that's pushed things forward yet again!

@@arpz Yeah. That's a good one for sure. This is interesting too: Over 90 hardware sprites at a time on an Amiga 500. AFAIK you'd still be able to add blitter objects to these (as well as software sprites if you needed even more stuff moving around on screen). The Amiga hardware certainly provides a lot of options.
Sweet! The hidden part is nice indeed!
I was impressed at how closely this nailed early 90s style then I realized its a 1992 production. Still super nIce.
@@jsrodman awesome isn't it! I need to start putting release year in the description, I do occasionally mention it but it's not much effort to add it in, cheers for the reminder

Sorry I missed this comment, thanks for coming by, are you still active?
Holy cow, never seen or heard of this demo before and I watched a lot of them (on Amiga), thanks for posting it. Typically the kind of demo I love. So oldschool :)
Thank you for this Upload. In contrast to the other versions available here on UA-cam this one also shows the Pentagon part. Can you pls confirm whether you used a physical Amiga 500 and not an emulator to make the video?
Just an emulator I'm afraid, WinUAE, it's a recentish version and I've gradually iterated towards settings that seem to be pleasing for the most part... I'd love to do it on real hardware but I don't have one at the moment
@@arpz Thanks for the info! You've found the right tweaks. Standard settings don't handle all the parts in the demo correctly but this one looks great and complete like in summer 1992.Good job! Cheers mate
Chill tune
It really is!
Greetings to Xerxes, we used to swap 🙂
I wonder about this sometimes, do you remember the last swap you did with anyone? Did something end it for you (a modem?) or is it just one of those things like the last time you went out to play with your friends, that you just one day realised you weren't doing it anymore...
@@arpz My friend was selling his computer and managed to sell it. Since there were more buyers interested, he asked if I wanted to sell mine too and that was the end of it. I had actually been contemplating quitting the scene anyway, since it wasn’t fun for me anymore. I had to focus on graduating from high school, and it was just becoming too much work. After a couple of decades, they pulled me back in, and I ended up making tunes for a 64k megademo-I think it was in 2015. It's been almost a decade. Perhaps it is time to make a return again.
@@tubeMonger oh fair enough! Would be awesome if you did decide to get involved again... I'm still planning on dipping my toe in soon but it's a lot to learn and I keep procrastinating 😅
@@arpz Thanks! I can relate. There's a threshold to get over before you get the hang of the tools to realize your ideas with.
The quickly flashing text says, "THE WILL OF GOD!", which is their slogan.
The lower large bitmap font is really very nice.
@@bytegamemakermagazin I dunno, I almost wrote complaining about it being a little hard to read but overall it looked cool enough to escape my scathing commentary 😁
@@arpz Oh, compared to many other fonts and especially very creative text scrollers in the demoscene, this is - in my opinion - excellent to read.
@@bytegamemakermagazin To be fair, looking at it now on a laptop it's far easier than sat about 1ft away from the 4k monitor I use to capture these... I think the laptop screensize is closer to a Philips/TV from back in the day
Caused me to start aggressive fist pumping without even realising
Pretty sick, had i somehow missed 10 previous TUNESdays? (yes, yes i had)
Wondering how long I will manage to keep the consistency streak going... there's enough to keep me going until long after I die
Every time I see this Scoopex logo I can't but thumb up :)
@@OLIV3R_YT most of their stuff is already here so it's rare for me to get the chance to obtain their "like" vicariously lol
The symbols at the bottom come from an industrial band called Front 242
The music (?) is really repelling, but the laser pointers writing the letters were really nice. Also, I would have loved to have seen T2 walk again.
It definitely qualifies as music! I thought it was quite fitting for the theme at least. Did you check right at the end? It sort of walks again....although also kinda not hahaha
I like the soundtrack!
Nice intro - thanks for the capture!
For more Lemming killing animations from my brother look for the followup „Energy - Wasted Time II“ 😉
Nice to see this piece poping up on youtube over 30 years after I have contributed to it. 😅
That's awesome! Which bit? I always say it but I love when people involved find their work on the channel 😊
@@arpz I did most of the XEROX logos (with deluxe paint), my younger brother (he was 11 years at the time) did the lemmings animations. The credits show us as Zany and Zany Jr. Its always mixed feelings when I see especially Wasted Time 1, as my best friend in this time who was the main coder (Byteshaker) died some months later in a car accident 😐.

Very nice graphics.
A nice one. Some dude's early steps at coding on the Amiga. Nothing wrong here.
I remember these mods and I think they're pretty nice. I also remember where these samples came from as we had sampling sessions every now and then with Shade (whom I talked with today) since I had a sampler we could use. We had lots of vinyls and CDs stacked on the table - , trying to find passages where there were only drums, or pianos and so forth. Good times!
Thanks for the capture. And greetings to Offworld!
This style of music is not my cup of tea in my day to day life, but when I listen to it on Amiga, I could stay very long in front of speakers of my Commodore 1084S. This prod somehow make me think of Kefrens megamix series though.
I like the lead instrument
It's got a sort of plasticky feel to it, can't describe it exactly but I think I'm with you :D
Thank you for the music.
Greetings to Tyrell. The player doesn't do justice to the mod.
Do you mean the play routine itself is somehow making it sound different? Got a link to how it should be?
