Oh Kate... I just love watching your reactions. I was sobbing along with you - and I've seen this film more times than I can count. It never disappoints, and neither do you. Merry Christmas Kate! ps... lovely brows!
Your reaction was just wonderful.. 1942 Casablanca movie should be on your list..happy holiday
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL reaction!! BTW $20,000 at the time of this story is worth around $445,900 today adjusted for inflation, if not more!
It’s okay to cry, everybody does.
Hacksaw Ridge is my favorite war movie! Andrew Garfield is astonishing as Desmond Doss! Great reaction from you, Kate! Keep doing what you're doing! You're a natural!
I only recently learned that Mr. Potter was in a wheelchair because Lionel Barrymore was in a wheelchair by that point due to severe arthritis.
Does anyone else think it's weird that Henry F. Potter's name is "Henry" which could also easily be "Harry Potter?" They're both nicknames for the same name "Harrison" :)
Truly sometimes you have to be a little older to appreciate some movies. This movie didn't have much impact on me when I was a pre-teen but once I got into my 20s it was very impactful. Now you know why your mother loves this movie so much.
"Happy" Christmas Kate (as you would say) ... your Mom (or "Mum") has exquisite taste in movies !!! Thank you so much for reviewing "It's a Wonderful Life" -- which happens to be not only "one of" my favorite movies, but in actuality is "the" favorite movie of all time for me. I first saw it years ago when I was in high school and instantly gravitated towards it because Jimmy Stewart was in it (he was my favorite actor growing up not only because he was a wholesome "good guy," but also because of his personal story which was not unlike the character George Bailey. ... Jimmy Stewart was a personal hero of mine: he was the first actor from Hollywood who signed up to serve in WW II [he actually signed up to serve BEFORE Pearl Harbor because he knew we would eventually be in the war, and he paid for his own flight lessons and pilot's license]. He was a successful Hollywood actor and rising star, yet he put his career completely on hold without hesitation. He didn't want any special treatment, so he pushed to be allowed to fly actual combat missions and they made him a squadron commander of B-24 Liberators based in England. He flew many bombing missions, and eventually was stressed with PTSD [as were many]). In fact, I later learned that this movie was his first movie after returning from the War, he had self-doubt, and Frank Capra talked him into doing the movie and boosted his confidence. Interestingly (and sadly in many ways) it was his suppressed emotional trauma from the horrors of the bombing missions that he tapped into in order to give that moving performance in Martini's Bar when he's a broken man at the end of his rope praying to God to "show [him] the way." I highly encourage you to learn more about Jimmy Stewart the man and his WW II service. Another interesting aspect is that the fictional town of "Bedford Falls" was based on the real town of Seneca Falls, NY, and in 1917 there was a real person (a young Italian immigrant) who dove into the water to save someone else from drowning, and did so successfully but sadly drowned himself because he couldn't swim). I drove to Seneca Falls just a few years ago (it's only about an hour and a half away from where I live) to participate in their annual "It's a Wonderful Run" that the town holds every December in conjunction with their "It's a Wonderful Life" movie festival; the fun run ends at a bridge that looks just like the one in the movie. I watch this movie every year during the Holiday Season (sometimes at other times too). I loved your reactions throughout the movie -- very genuine and wholesome, and when you observed that you were running out of tissues I remember thinking to myself "poor Kate -- she has no idea that she's going to need a lot more of them" because I knew you'd love the ending (the whole movie, really). You mentioned that you were happy that you saw the movie at your present age, out of concern that perhaps you wouldn't have appreciated it if you saw it when you were younger. With all due respect, I believe you definitely WOULD have appreciated it then as well -- just as I did. Your sensitivity, wholesomeness, and good character did NOT suddenly materialize "just now;" they have been part of you for MANY years of your life ... and so I have absolute confidence that the movie and its lessons would have resonated with you deeply even at an earlier age. If anything, as a teenager you might not have fully grasped "all" of the subtle nuances that one identifies and appreciates through more adult eyes, but you most definitely would have grasped and appreciated the core lessons. Most importantly, you would have loved the movie starting from an earlier point in life and would still have made the commitment -- as you have presently vowed going forward -- to watch the movie every year ... and every year you get something new out of it! Finally, I commend a couple of other Jimmmy Stewart movies to you -- both of them were also shot in black & white: "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" (filmed in 1939 and also a Frank Capra film), and "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence." The latter movie was actually filmed in the late 50's or early 60's when Jimmy Stewart and John Wayne were getting older, and the film maker affirmatively chose to shoot the movie in black & white for the dramatic contrast of "good vs. evil" ... but also to help hide the age of the two stars. Happy viewing -- and I hope you and your family enjoy the remainder of a blessed Christmas Season, and that 2025 proves to be your best year yet !!!
Wonderful Ma’am!!!😊, MerryChristmas!!👏👏👏🕊️thanks for sharing 😊👍✌️🇺🇸🇮🇱
The further we go into increasingly complex technologies, morality and relationships the more profound and impactful the older stories become. How would this have played out if George and Mary were texting each other during the last 20 minutes of the film? (shudder) By the way, you mentioned in your review that there was an appropriate dose of well-timed comedy. Frank Capra directed silent comedies early in his career, so no surprise there.
This movie is becoming more relevant in the times we are living in.
My wife and I enjoyed watching your reviw of IAWL. From our perspective, we knew so much about the movie that watching your predictions on what would happen next was priceless. This is probably the greatest movie ever made because of the proximity to the post world war 2 era. Capra had an uncanny sense of sprinkling in so many minor details and trusted the entire cast to pull off these nuggets and the overall performances. The cast is absolutely perfect and spans across the golden age of Hollywood. If you think you had a nice cry on the initial viewing just wait until you see it again! If you are inclined, give these movies a go, pure classics - Casablanca, The Heiress, The General, All Quiet on the Western Front, The Sting, The Hustler, Amadeus, Great Expectations and Mr Smith Goes to Washington. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
This was a great reaction video...The one shot that would have been great to include was in the pharmacy at the beginning when Mary whispers into George's deaf ear, "George Bailey, I'll love you till the day I die..."
Doss’s unit was the77th infantry division. They were an experimental division made up of older soldiers. The Fat Electrician did a video on them. You should check it out sometime.
The ending always brings tears of happiness. Way to go Clarence!
At an awards ceremony in 1955, a twenty-four-year-old James Dean walked across a crowded room to shyly meet James Stewart. He told Stewart that he’d recently watched It’s A Wonderful Life, and wanted him to know how great it was and how magnificent Stewart’s performance was. James Stewart thanked him and said: “I think you and I are the only ones who liked that one.” Flash forward 70 years: The American Film Institute ranked this movie as the 11th best film ever made.
Wonderful reaction! I subscribed Peace
Thank you for your heartfelt reaction and thoughts. Merry Christmas and happy New Year!
I'm so happy to have found your channel. You seem like a lovely girl, inside and out. It gives me hope for the future to think there are still girls like you out there.
Dear and sweet reaction. So glad to spend the time here on Boxing Day. Bless You and Yours.
Sorry I got to your reaction a bit late having just subscribed so this comment is a bit out of the loop. Kubrick doesn't make things easy. He wants an audience to sense things rather than be given simple answer to this and that.Within the story I think the Overlook is a malevolent collector of souls so the film is actually a ghost story and not just a psychological thriller. Also I believe the camera when it is doing all its complex tracking behind seen by and descending on Jack at the opening and when Jack really goes axe crazy is three personification of whatever this malignant Overlook entity is. Anyway,a wonderful rsaction, Kate.
Such a classic movie i never get tired watching this love your reaction to the ending it was perfectly done
Fabulous movie date/reaction. One of my all time favorites as well. The $8000 that Me Potter kept (played by actress Drew Barrymore's grandfather - Lionel Barrymore) would be equivalent to about (assuming 3% Inflation per year) would about $64,000 (maybe a little more). The $20,000 offer to George to manage Potter's properties would also be adjusted upwards 3 times as well to about $120,000 per year. The next B+W old-timey Christmas movie was released the year following this one in 1947 called: Miracle on 34th St.
Wonderful reaction! God Bless!
What a wonderful reaction! Sorry you ran out of tissues by the end. Another movie with a heart-warming theme is: "Always" 1989 directed by Steven Speilberg, with Richard Dreyfus, Holly Hunter, John Goodman and no less than Audrey Hepburn. Restock your tissues before watching "Always"! New subscriber to your channel.
To me, this is the greatest movie ever made. I relate on so many levels to George. He represents the best of us.
You may be interested to know that Albert Blythe did not die in 1948 as depicted in the series. He actually lived until 1967. I have enjoyed your commentary on this series so far and look forward to your reactions to future episodes.
The scene where Mary confesses her wish always gets me. There’s just something so vulnerable and innocent in that moment.
wonderful reaction
What a wonderful take on one of the greatest movies ever made. I really enjoyed your comments on the movie. There are so many amazing movies that are in black & white, and if you ever have the chance to see the original or "colorized" versions, you should try and see the original version. If you are interested in seeing another classic movie in B&W, a movie with amazing story, dialog and acting, you might check out "12 Angry Men." I actually learned of this story in my 11th grade English class, where it was put on as a play, and the students played the parts. It turns out that this story has been used in English classes for decades, and it's a fantastic story & movie.
I’m happy the UA-cam algorithms brought me to you. Subbed.
Loved this! Thanks!
You are the best, Kate, this was so special to watch. Obviously, for good reason, there are many reactions for this film and so I can't possibly watch them all......and I'm so happy I did not pass this one up. I feel privileged to have shared that with you. I hope you do more classics from the "golden age" period, you're a perfect reactor for them.
I’ve seen this movie 100 times over the years, and my reaction is always the same. Like you, I always cry. Any Frank Capra film will do that.
Harry won out over George, but, Mary won out over, the WORLD!
The scene where young George asks Violet if she wants to shoelaces, he meant licorice.
Mum was Right! :) Thanks for the lovely reaction. God Bless.
Kate, I have no idea where my comment went to your reaction to It’s a Wonderful Life. I was one of the first to jump on this on Christmas when it popped up on my computer. I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction to this wonderful film and wrote you a nice Christmas message and now it’s gone. Sigh… Anyway, I hope you had a nice Christmas surrounded by good food, family and friends. For New Year’s Eve have you ever watched , When Harry Met Sally? It’s a romcom from the 90’s and ends on New Year’s Eve. - Thomas. Your channel is really taking off. It’s going to be 10k before you know it. I wish you every success - you so deserve it.😊
Fantastic reaction. Every tear possible. Tears of joy, grief, despair, redemption and happiness. 65 years old and this movie gets me every time. Especially when seeing a reactor who emotes as well as you.
This is where the band zuzu's petals got its name.
At the end of the movie in the picture that shows Jack Nicholson, his left and right arms on the exact position of the 1856 depection of the sabbatic goat.
A stagehand dropped a light and made that crashing sound we here as Uncle Billy is walking home after having a little too much to drink. The actor add lived the line " I'm alright, I'm alright."
Bert and Ernie...
I love how you get so emotionally involved , this is one of my all time favourite movies and it’s a family tradition in our house to watch this on Christmas Eve with bowls of popcorn followed by hot chocolate and god willing if we’re blessed with grandchildren in the future we’ll carry on that tradition for many years to come and after watching your terrific review of it you have a new fan 👍
For your next movie... you MUST watch one of the GREATEST black & white classics: Casablanca, starring Humphrey Bogart.
