Who said germinating seeds was easy? Plenty of problems can arise. When they do - it's important to find a fast option...but more importantly, the right one.
Dang, this is very interested now I’m even more intrigued I wonder how many palm trees you will end up with
I have a ton coming, stay tuned. Btw...all of your videos want me to get back into junk food habit!
@ oh don’t worry I’m gonna be doing some healthy ones starting tomorrow I went to target and found some healthy products I also have a playlist of nothing but healthy stuff called health and fitness.
Nice 😊
Yup, they grow like weeds they say (Mexican Fan Palm seeds)...I can see why!
bonus!
haha, until it gets to crowded in that cup...I am gonna see what happens, let it roll. They grow like weeds anyway.
👻🌴😂
I call this trimming style, the "Como Cut."
Very true. I do like when it’s trimmed and not when the fronds go below 45 degree angle or so.
Very interesting... that is a lot of palm seedlings
Thank you! I bought quite a few and didn't expect all or "most" to germinate but they did! W. robusta literally grow like weeds. Some of the saplings are close to beating the filibusta despite them being germinated a full and half month prior.
@@CascadiaPalms I need to get some seeds on the go bigtime!
@ what kind?
@CascadiaPalms I did yucca rostrata over the last few years and am thinking of trachycarpus fortunei this year
In my experience if you disturb the roots when transplanting you stunt the growth by 2-3 weeks maybe more, so not disturbing them is a good idea! But with the baggy method it s quite hard depending on how many you put inside. Have you ever tried germinating them individual containers?
You are a billion perfect right. The transfers where the roots were kinda "thrown off" halted for a few weeks. The saplings that transferred and basically didn't even know they were, are doing marvelous. Yes, in my Germination Part 2 video, I will be doing just that. Agreed.
wow nice my parlor palm is actully alive ! it was just dirt that made it look dead
@Snoopypalms great to hear! That made my day!
I also have wondered what the small white bugs have been, I didn’t have enough motivation to research so I’m glad I know now
Hahaha
@@northeasthardytropicals541 haha right?! 😅
These grow VERY quickly.
Interesting!
Love it
good video!!! 😀
Looking great! Do you have a timer on your grow lights (3hr, 6hr, 12hr, 16hr)? Nice gadget with the soap bottle!
@@ABQ-Palms yes, the soap bottle gadget saves me time. Couldn’t recommend it more for a bunch of pots. Yes, my grow lights have timers, but they only have timers when you put them on, they aren’t like the kind that you have in your living room when you’re on vacation or something.
wow nice sadly my parlor paln and ponytail palm in ground died 😭
@Snoopypalms what!? Why? What happened?
@@CascadiaPalms the protection wasnt enough i think 😭

Yes, semi pro was a great movie
@@youknowwithMartyKauffman pretty darn funny, agreed!
Peewee Herman got me 💀...😂. Another fun banger vid! Good luck to your palm 🌴
@@VirginiaFruitGrower hahaha totally. I love me nostalgic references. 😅 Yep, another bomb cyclone here in Cascadia and that Palm is gonna have some trouble!
I have 8 Trachys in my backyard. 😊
@@V8AmericanMuscleCar wow what size? What zone are you?
@CascadiaPalms Various sizes. I haven't had them for long, so the two largest are about 2 meters tall. Some of them grow incredibly fast, some slower. I'm in 7b.
@@V8AmericanMuscleCar yeah I hear you. Lotta factors can depend on its gross speed. Ever hear of Trachycarpus nova? An incredibly fast growing trachycarpus family member. I will actually be doing a video soon about this species. Incredibly interesting, especially for people who are impatient and want their palms to grow fast in cold zones. Stay tuned. 🔔🌴👏
@CascadiaPalms I got the first one and for some reason it's the slowest growing. I got the others from a yard where it was hard to get them out because the soil was quite rocky and a lot of the roots were broken. They all recovered last summer. Now I can't wait for spring. 😊 I heard about Trachycarpus Nova today from one of your videos. 😉 I'll stay tuned.
@ yeah for some reason, it takes palms below the surface a while to recover, but once roots are embedded nicely, that’s they really start taking off like crazy… people always think about above the surface palm health, but a lot of it obviously is below the surface too. Goes without saying :) Yeah, the nova is extremely interesting, I really only found out about it recently and I’m shocked that it’s not more widespread and cultivated.
Great video! new sub here, i mostly grow trachycarpus, butia and chamerops in my tropical garden in the uk, but looking to get a few more hardy varieties! shame sabals are not very common in the uk 🤔
Thank you Rich...I've enjoyed your channel too! Yes, very interesting why sabals don't appear much there. They are pretty slow-growing, maybe people are impatient haha, I dunno. Garden looks great btw! Are you going to try any washy? You could probably get away with robusta. Given that it's hardy and it doesn't mind the winter moisture too bad, but of course it's a gamble I guess.
@CascadiaPalms 👊 😎🌴many thanks glad you enjoy the content and the garden! not quite sure either really🤔 may try to source some seeds! patience ia definitely a virtue in gardening 😂😅 i do have a couple washys but they are kinda borderline hardy in my area, i lost all but one clump of small ones last winter, and picked up a 2ft trunk/7ft high one for about 20$ that im trying this winter un protected near a fence to see if a bigger plant will do well, so far so good 😅 i do also have a waggy x princeps and a trachycarpus x princeps which are small, would love a rhapidophyllum hystrix needle palm , but this year is the year of the tree fern and tetrapanax for the garden hoping to get a few large tree ferns, have a few already but they are addictive! 😅🌴
@@richf_tropical_garden_projects sounds like you have quite a lineup, I would love to get a tree fern, but they are still very debatable in my area. It’s not the temperature, it’s just a very, very wet winters that just seems to really do a number. Do you have anything to recommend?
@@CascadiaPalms haha the list keeps growing! tree ferns are one of my favourite plants in the garden, dicksonia Antarctica are probably the most hardy, ah ok to be fair wet weather isn't a problem they love water, for them generally where they come from they typically get 5 x more rainfall than we get in the uk , so im always out watering in the summer, as long as you dont really get long spells below freezing , they should be hardy down to around -7c (20f) with some protection. they would probably love your wet climate! tetrapanax ( desiduous ) are great if you can get them and id also recommend a fasicularia bi colour which are hardy down to around 23f
@@richf_tropical_garden_projects THAT IS GREAT INFORMATION! thank you! you read so much online but I would rather just hear from the experts myself. Good to know, I will go ahead and try the dicksonia Antarctica. Thank you Rich. Hope you all are keeping warm across the pond!
GOOD ROOM! LOOKS NICE!
GOOD VIDEO!
GREAT!
I’m surprised that palm trees can survive in this climate we live in here in the PNW
Not only can they survive, but they can thrive! 🌴💥
We need a whole “McPalms” series 😆 The seedlings are looking great btw! I have several of those 3-headed grow lights which I use for a variety of my houseplants. They’ve worked very well for me and I’ve had a couple of them for several years. They’re well made. No complaints! 💪
@@MrPlant-hw9lb oh dude, I am convinced the McPalms are fed the old burger and fry grease and they EAT IT UP! No wonder they look so happy. Ba-da-da-duh-duuuh… they’re loving it. Yes, the lights have been really good so far, I did a deep research on those on Amazon, clearly Amazon 😅. The guy was literally in my cul-de-sac when I ordered them hahah. I hear you guys are gonna get slammed here soon with a cold snap! ❄️
Yeah we get lots of rain in winter here too. Not good for palms, it often makes for nasty looking spears or spear pull. Your forecast is like my winter forecast when at the end of a 7 day it shows a nice 60-70'F day that never materializes. I've got daffodils coming up too here in the s.e. US. Our fast food chain for palms is Wendy's. Apparently the same franchise owner has about 4 locations all with windmill palms. A video forthcoming one day.
@@Palmguy24 do it! I wanna see it. Fast food palms to me are hilarious, I don’t know why. Yeah, the constant moisture is not a good thing, as long as the palms have access to direct sunlight when it’s not raining, and they can dry out a little bit, it usually is just fine. However, I will say…Trachy fortunei gets their butts, kicked here in the winter, constant clouds, rain, overcast, and they come out winners in the spring, I am convinced that if they were not just cultivated here, they could’ve been native.
Sinkholes are the worst, can’t predict sometimes
Great Room🎉
Love it! 😃 But I’m gonna have to have a serious conversation with my foxtail seedlings. They’re really taking their sweet time putting on new growth 😂
@@MrPlant-hw9lb oh…a very serious conversation is in order. They need to get with the program!

Hi Ming, welcome to the channel!
They look great! 😊 Good luck on the novas! I think it’s time to introduce the dog to your channel!! And time for a heated greenhouse so you can grow more 🤣 Thousands more 🙊
haha, oh I am sure he will make a cameo. Yes, I am REALLY hoping the novas get going. Really excited about those. I agree! I actually I am looking into that. Going to start doing research. Make sure I get the right one. I've seen some incredible ones. How do you usually heat yours again?
Great! 🐶 Technically, I actually don’t have a greenhouse yet either. For now, my plants are growing in a heated garage that I’m able to keep at 75 degrees Fahrenheit with 70% humidity. I do have a company selected to construct a greenhouse for me. It’ll be made of Lexon (maybe double-layered) and it’ll have 2 heaters in it that run on natural gas… The greenhouse builders have put up many of them even 200+ miles north of me where it’s colder and much cloudier on average than here and they assure me I’ll be well insulated and able to keep it heated adequately in the winter months without having to spend too much on heating bills… Though I will admit I am worried about what the costs are going to be Dec-Feb 😳 I’m hoping for sunny winters from now on! 🤞 😝 Oh, and Merry Christmas! 🎄 🎁 🎅
@@MrPlant-hw9lb Yes! Merry Christmas Mr. Michigander! Yes, I’d be very interested in seeing that process for you when that happens. I think growing palms, we would have to get ones that were taller rather than wider if we had a choice, but I haven’t even began to research that. I will have to take advice from you when you begin your journey on that! Let me know again about your tropical plant biz, I can give you a shout out on my videos.
Will do! Awesome 🤩

Fun video. In the ground cold hardy palm grower in here in 5b Nebraska. Why no Sabal palms? I have found Louisiana sabals are VERY cold hardy. I have a few in the ground.
