Yamaha XSR155 English Review and Ride in Bali

This is Yamaha's entry into a relatively new category in Asia, small-capacity or entry-level modern-retro bikes. It competes with the Honda CB150R Exmotion and the Kawasaki W175. They are a slight step up from scooters in terms of price, and really popular as a base for modifications. For the price, this is a fantastic bike.

Taking the Honda ADV 150 out for a ride. I was quite interested in this scooter since I'm into adventure motorcycles, so this seemed like it would be an interesting "upgrade" from a normal maxi-scooter. It turned out to be not as mind-blowing as I had built it up to be in my head, but a reliable and comfortable ride nevertheless.

This little orange machine has changed the way I look at scooters! Lots of thumbs up, one thumbs down. Overall a very enjoyable bike.

I don't have a proper mic so there's no formal review but the "oh shit!" at 00:45 should tell you all you need to know about this bike ;) "Quite a bit more powerful" refers to the 900 that I was on prior to this video.

The shortcut road between Batu Bolong and Berawa. A daily ride for many people living in this area. The uneven road surface, the sheer drop either side to a rice field and the traffic jams at peak times make this one of Canggu's top attractions. 5/5 would visit again.

Kawasaki KLX 150cc "big bore" customized dirt bike 2 months after getting my motorcycle license I have the most fun I've ever had on a motorcycle... and it doesn't even require a license as it's all off road! This is raw, unedited footage of our ride through the Balinese jungle including stalling, getting stuck, dropping the bike and a couple of swear words ;)

This does in fact have a hook that you can use to secure your helmet under the seat tho that requires you to remove the seat then put it back
Very high engine vibration, at 6000RPM key/handle lock start vibrating with annoying metal buzzing sound. Top speed 135km/h, and both your hands will feel numbness if you ride without hand gloves, and the design of the temperature sensor is very stupid..
Too bad handle bars low, my injured arm would get sore. Check out gpx legend 200cc
In Thailand now.. I'm either gonna follow my head and buy this... Or follow my heart and buy an Enfield Hunter.. 😆 *Crap Game*

Nice review, I also live in Indonesia and have CRF150L, MT15 and the new CB150X. I have rented/ridden Versys 250, CRF250 Rally and the WR155R. The 150s are what you said. The Versys is a nice bike, but road oriented and "heavy". CRF250 Rally, absolutely junk, too soft suspension, before the 2021 update transmission spacing all wrong for Asian roads. The WR has a street bike, high revving, low torque engine, it is super sweet engine in my MT15, but in the WR the engine vibrates and makes very unpleasant mechanical noise right around 5-6000 RPM, which is where you are in normal riding. Its July 2022, and there is an updated 230 SE, Inverted forks, much better looking led headlamp......When I looked at the original bike (the one in your review) few things stood out. The headlamp was just beyond ugly in real life. The use of cheap standard forks (dampening rod internals, very basic) was another no go item for me. Last the overall quality of the bike was sub par compared to the Hondas and Yamahas. But this is subjective and at that point was a deal breaker for me, so I ended up with the CRF150L, yes with its low power, 5 speed transmission and all. The updated SE model looks lot more promising. Will see when it's available here in Batam. Hooligan, that sounds fun, modify the seat and go on an adventure. Thx for the review.
Although the Kawasaki W175 has a 20cc advantage over the Yamaha. The XSR155 has a nearly 6hp power advantage, although it is also 6kg heavier.

The KLX250 is top heavy and a bugger to pick up, I had a 2018 here in Thailand
This is the SE model, it comes with black rims, ABS, flimsy hand guards, a fat bar , plastic bash plate and frame protectors, it’s a great bike 👍🏻
why would you put your money on this expensive bike that YAMAHA didnt put the most important safety features the ABS BRAKE SYSTEM...

wow watched the rest of the video! I have never seen so many scooters in a video, ever! also other things I noticed! dogs with road sense? as bikes shot past them! people running on the road! as the mayhem around them enfolds!with cars and bikes streaming past! and calling the bike a commuter is an insult, I think!to what a great machine it is! just my thoughts! anyway enjoyed your review! but I could never live in a place with 50 thousand scooter riders all deciding to go out for the day! all at the same time!
I am also pleased to see a review in English and any other reviews or tips on modifying this bike should post their UA-cam links? I have just purchased a Yoshimura GP Magnum exhaust for the Yamaha XSR125 we cant get the 155 but need to know when you change the exhaust to the Yoshimura what do you do with the Oxygen sensor? Did that XSR155 have an oxygen sensor bolted into the exhaust? can anyone help with a solution?

they are available all over the place really, but the place I rented from is called Alpha Customs (despite the name, the bike was stock)
OK I bought one; an excellent machine needing as you say adjustment of the riding position. FYI there are 2 helmet locks under the seat and you can also adjust the backlight brightness of the multi function clock👍. I need to mention also that it is not a "bash plate" on the front of the engine but a "couling" the purpose of which is to protect the engine from water and dirt being thrown up from the front wheel (because of the short front fender). You also get a free XSR helmet and a cold/hot drinks flask; not sure for how long though? Hope this will also help others considering buying 👍.

It would be useful if you posted in future your weight, height, inside leg measurement as well as arm length. Your post comments contradict what you said in the video about the finish and cutting costs; I just don't see it 🤔 It would also be useful to see how the bike pulls uphill and 2s up. Yes I'm in Bali and yes I'm buying 1, fancied the 250 but no decision yet on whether it's going to be released in Indonesia.
I stand by my comments in the video and the comments below :) The fit and finish of the bike in general is excellent. The switchgear and dash in particular feel much more premium than the price you pay for this bike. But having said that, it's a bit plastic-fantastic. The plastic tank, the plastic bash guard - good quality finish on both but they are cost saving measures for sure. These are nitpicks though. All in all, it's probably the best bike available at this price point. FWIW I ended up buying its sibling, the WR155R (which I have now fully customized, will have to do a video on it some day). Same engine, but in a trail bike form factor. Interestingly, the fit and finish on the WR is noticeably poorer quality. But I wanted the trail bike form factor as it's more comfortable for me.

Thankfully, an English review for XSR 155. And better yet, you spoke about your experience in riding the bike. Most reviewers focus much on the technical stuff and specs. Comparing how it feels to ride the XSR with other bikes of the same class is really very helpful. Love your honest review. New sub here.

Did U end up buying the 230? Have U tried the WR155?
Ended up buying a CRF250 Rally, very happy with it. The KLX230 is a faster bike though I reckon, it's so much lighter. But I was filling up the KLX tank every few days, it got annoying. Haven't looked at the WR155, the XSR155 engine is decent so that in a trail bike format is interesting!

YAMAHA XSR 155CC..🏍.In this bike there r 4 weak points that is 1. Side stand indicator with Engine Cutoff, 2. Hazard Lights., 3. Side LED indicator.. 4. Glide Through Technology (GTT).. r not given then this 4 things should be added otherwise bike is Superb.
