The Cost of Nostalgia: Living Off Old Memories
Nostalgia might be more than just a rose colored feeling of the past. It hasn't always been understood as a longing for one's own memories but as a longing to return home.

The telling of the scene is obvious, A little girl calmy composed, reads a book, actually did prefer to method act,(not that it matters, it is an eccentric choice which is to say a uniquely mature one, as it requires an opinion to seperate from normalcy, that being the norm of the extent of the role of an Actor, now an 8 year old girl is in this headspace,) Dalton then mimicks her behavior of reading...with a smaller book, children usually imitate adults, but he is taking notes from her...if thats a stretch...the linked Tantrum scene...(tantrums thrown by Children)...all that is baked in Context, and i think it was lost on him...if he was tearing up at the compliment because he knew it was...fake or considered it was coming from an 8 year old girl...then he wouldn't have slighlty celebrated...."rick.fin...dalton"...after that comes the more artful part of...what that means. The little girls comment whether sincere or not...he took it sincere....that is clever, I think it is an artful thing to note...that viewing the movie once his performance comes off better in the movie scene(daltons) but with repeated viewing...you actually learn to see how Good Leo is acting as Dalton..(such as the scene before with the lines)...then you see the scene...as not as impactful with the little girl...which also can change how you view her saying "its the best acting I've seen in my whole life". cause at first I did feel she was serious....then when my headspace changed...so did hers....shifting perception, now too she may be feeling sorry for him.

The other part I love, and this is classic Tarantino 'meta' story details... is the fact that he chose actors who are in that same moment of their careers irl. Brad and Leo were both the classic leading men of the late 90s and through most of the 2000s. Now there's a different style of film making and Brad Pitt + Leo no longer fit the archetype of the leading male role from that era. In fact, that classic 'leading man' is virtually gone now. It was actually an era sort of similar to the departure of westerns in a way, but more modernised. Leo's typical typecast was a charismatic good looking man who stands out from all the other men around him - he has the whole package. Not just looks, but charisma, heroic qualities, some sort of special skill, intuitive sort of 'street smart' qualities which gave him this believable plot armour. Most importantly - empathy and compassion (all of which the typical desirable traits in men during that era. For the most part, women wanted a man who had that perfect trifecta - looks, charisma and gentle compassion. For this reason all his qualities naturally lent to a partnership, and it always ended incredibly sadly (thus was one of the most popular storytelling trends of the time, and Leo was perfect for that role). Leo had the perfect luck of being born with every feature desirable to women of that period in history. The exact looks and personality style to pull of that 'sensitive' pretty boy, with balls of steel. And a willingness to sacrifice or put himself at great risk for his loved ones. Brad Pitt was more or less the same, but his characters tended to have less focus on the empathy and compassion front... I think his pretty boy looks work better for that kind of 'badass, don't give no shits' role. For Leo, he's got that pretty boy look which is perfect for the 'sensitive/sweet courageous' role. Tarantino also played to both the actor's skills and looks in the movie too. Leo was the famous, good looking and courageous type, but also had a very sensitive side to him. Brad was the good looking 'badass' don't give a fuck character. Both of which were ramped up to an absurd, in a lot of cases hilarious way... which to me symbolised the fact that their styles of acting are no longer so relevant in today's film. Margot is by far the best leading female of the era which followed Brad and Leo, just like her character did in the movie. She's also shaping up to be one of the most influential - she played the roll of Barbie. I would actually say the Barbie movie was officially the last nail in the coffin for that old film era of the 90s and 2000s, very similar to the departure from Westerns which Tarantino portrayed. That scene at the end where she finally has a chance to meet rick, I imagine she had that same feel when she first met Leo - definitely when she got to play the leading female alongside him in Wolf of Wall street. She likely grew up with a massive crush on Leo (let's be real, which girl didn't loll) - If you meet any girl who grew up as a millenial, every single one of them will tell you the same thing about Leo... and Brad for that matter. Now they're getting old, and it's time for a new generation and film style to take over. When the narrator mentioned how Leo seemed to understand Rick better than Tarantino, that tells me that Leo is literally going through that phase right now. His time in the sun is over, along with Brad. Of course it's not all doom and gloom though. They'll both go down forever as legends in the industry, and the new generation will forever revere them... just like Margot's character did in the film :) Really cool story about the cyclical nature of film and acting. Also highly topical, because we're seeing that exact phenomena play out right now in the Hollywood film history. The other cool part was we saw more humanity in both Brad, Leo and Margot's characters. They all played roles which are likely much closer to how they are irl, as opposed to how they're usually portrayed as these 'larger than life' perfect characters, which don't really exist in the real world. Despite the fact that they're all Hollywood mega stars, Margot and Brad very likely just lead normal everyday down to earth lives like us. Leo is very likely a lot more self critical and has plenty of moments where he feels shame irl - compared to how his characters always are in film. Clearly he's a perfectionist, otherwise he wouldn't be such a good actor. We see him playing these outstanding roles, but he likely looks back on a lot of moments similar to the way he does in the movie, during that hilarious scene where he gets superimposed onto The Great Escape. I even imagine on set he'd have moments where he criticises the hell out of himself - way more than necessary, the same way he does when he messes up his lines... We all get this image of mega stars like these and assume they live lives which are more akin to their characters - Everything is perfect, always exciting and thrilling, never any self doubt and always highly confident with constant parties and never any worries. In reality, they're just human like everyone else. Well... with the added bonus of being super rich, always going to cool parties and being able to fuck anyone they want... ahem
