March 1st is a very special day for me for personal reasons. It is Chopin's Birthday! It marks the day I moved to the United States 15 years ago...and now it is even more significant...in a very tragic way....we said final goodbye to one of the bravest, strongest, brightest, honest people, a hero like no other.... I felt like this piece was an appropriate tribute for his memory, even though he ...

Hello all, As I am preparing another teaching video, I decided to meanwhile share a few more original compositions of mine. This one is written back in 2021, but I believe that it represents my current stylistic language. This was a piece I have written after a 2 year break from composing. It was an artistic crisis, so to speak, after my tonal music pursuits were rejected and ridiculed by other...

    Brava. Some things, would be careful about is the Romantically inspired rubato (more so small pauses to emphasize), dynamic mellowness and not boldness, and Romantic arm movements. The last could psychologically cause you to play romantically. Otherwise, beautiful

    I used to be interested in bodybuilding and you possess a pretty aesthetic and muscular upper limb. Phenomenal bicep length and sweep right to the elbow. And thats a complement not a criticism. Are those arms genetic like Lee Priest or do you pump iron? Don't tell me its from playing Hanon!😅

      Thank you very much for the nice compliment about my arms! I used to be into calisthenics for many years. That's how I built my muscles. Unfortunately the last two years I have taken a break, because of shoulder injury, but I'm slowly getting back into it again. I miss my workout routine....😭

      @@Dariafortepiano oh yes! That kind of density can only come from years of work outs. All the best to getting back to your workouts. Don't give up. Do at least a year of weights before getting back to calisthenics.

    Thank you so much for making this video! Its very informative and very well explained! I was looking for wrist/arm techniques and this is by far the best and most practical video that I found. I've been playing piano for yrs but I never had any formal classes so I was never taught these things. When I started focusing on learning classical pieces that's when I developed tendonitis and it's very, very true that not having the proper technique really hampers everything. Unfortunately, I only truly realized and appreciate this now 😅 So now that I'm 'resting' I'm taking the time to go back to the basics and learn as much as I can on correct techniques

    Until your eyeballs fall out I imagine...and THEN...do it all AGAIN...maybe two or three more times. Repetition is an underrated accomplice of virtuosity. The real question is whether or not the student can delay gratification. To be able to suffer the arrows of doubt, setbacks, the slog and the grind long enough to produce something meaningful and beautiful. It's a question I'm currently grappling with as I make a scary leap toward the piano with little prior experience. So many questions. So many reservations. I'm not even sure why it comes to me so late in life (55)...or why it seems so much more compelling and important than before. To live the life of a pianist...because I've never been able to do anything half-way...not chess and not cycling. I don't know what that life looks like. It's hard to envision. The music is mellifluous and breath-taking at times but maybe that won't be enough in the end. But I will go to the edge and see...

    I cannot keep my pinkies down. Advice?

    • @FrodoBaggins-u9z
      @FrodoBaggins-u9z 7 днів тому

      Had the same problem when young. After studying Anatomy in Med school I Solved it as follows: Try this....the pinky follows the F4 (finger 4). Curl the pinky then straighten F4... not possible right? The trick is to flatten or rather uncurl the longer fingers specially F4. The pinky will follow. How flat is enough? Look at your finger side on if it looks like a pickaxe it's too curled, it should look like a English longbow ( gentle arch). If it looks like a frankfurter it's too flat ( unless your name is Horowitz😂). Notice you'll never have a curled pinky when playing the B major scale because the long fingers are stretched.

    What an amazing lesson on arpeggios! It almost immediately helps with my bumpy playing and heavy thumbs, although it would take much longer to really get there. Here is a lengthy question that may be worth touched in a future video: As you just mentioned, it is necessary (and feasible) to always keep hands and fingers aligned to the keys. Ideally, forearms should align with hands too, so that wrists are in the most comfortable position. However, there are cases when the forearms cannot align with hands. An example is when two hands are playing close to each other (e.g., Bach Prelude in C major), which makes it physically impossible to align both forearms with the hands, since there is a limit to move elbows towards torso. In that case, should I still keep both hands (and fingers) aligned with the keys, and move the torso toward one side. so that the hand that plays more notes (or doing a more challenging job) can have the forearm-hand alignment, while the other hand has to tolerate the discomfort at wrist?

    • @Dariafortepiano

      This is one way to put it, yes! The macro movement can unify and connect many micro movements "underneath" it.:) they can work together to improve the easy and comfort of playing!

    Hi Daria, Thank you for the review. I am a beginner advanced piano player. I started with a P125, then I upgraded to a P515. I would like to ask: Is it possible to play with P515, or CLP745 with full arm weight? If I don’t use this technique, then the action of the P515 might be too heavy for me. I also am learning that by using the full arm weight, 1) it is easer to play softer with the left hand and lauder with the right hand. 2) the sound quality is better than the shallow playing. 3) the wrists do not hurt and 4) i can play with better expression. I was advised ( not from Yamaha but from a pianist) not to use full arm weight when playing a keyboard regardless of the brand or the model, because the sensors will crash. The only exception will be on hybrid pianos or acoustic pianos. May I please have your recommendations/ suggestions? Thank you Maurice

    Wonderful interpretation and control :) I also agree this old Steinway sounds great! I figured it might be an old one based on how good the sustain is. I'm not a huge fan of most Steinways anymore since I've learned more about pianos, but they were objectively one of the best around the turn of the last century. WOW, I had to come back towards the end to update. The way you pulled back after the Triumphant E flat major section coming back down to the haunting reiteration of the first theme D minor was absolutely breathtaking!! At 6:35! I don't think I've ever heard anyone play that part so beautifully. I learned this piece a year or two ago, I'm going to try it that way right now! I just have to confirm this by saying I just went and listened to 5 of the most renowned concert pianists in the world and not a SINGLE one of them made that moment as precious as you did, they all flew right past it. WELL DONE!! If you're curious, those five were Seong-Jin Cho, Yundi Li, Krystian Zimmerman, Yuja Wang, and Garrick Ohlsson. The only one who came close was Yuja Wang.

I have listened to most of the pianists you mentioned play the ballads, except Yundi Li. I will today! I also love the interpretation of Yulianna Avdeeva. She is one of my favorite pianists. Very expressive playing! If you don't know her, I highly recommend listening to her playing. Especially Listz Sonata In B, Mussorgsy Pictures at Exhibition, Prokofiev 2nd Concerto, and Chopin Ballade no. 4. :)

    Hi there, I'm really struggling to decide which digital piano with weighted keys to choose. I'm particularly interested in getting the best Rhodes, Suitcase, funk, and melancholic sounds. However, it seems like neither the Roland FP-60X nor the Yamaha P-515 are particularly strong in the Rhodes department. So, is there another brand or model that truly excels in these types of sounds while still having weighted keys? Any advice on a digital piano that would allow one to really enjoy those classic Rhodes tones? Alternatively, should I just connect either of these two models to my MacBook with Logic Pro to access higher-quality Rhodes sounds? And if I do that, is it possible to save those Rhodes sounds directly to the keyboard, so I'm not always dependent on the Logic Pro/computer connection in the future? How would that setup work effectively? Thanks for your help!

    Thank you for this beautiful performance, Chopin is very/too difficult for me, otherwise on my p515 I prefer the sound of the Bosendorfer I can't get used to the CFX too bright and dry, otherwise I use two Yamaha HS8 speakers which work quite well provided you make some adjustments on the p515, for example the "Reverb Depth" at 45 and other settings like "Brightness" at 2 etc. Otherwise it's not a criticism but (sorry) I think you could improve the sound recording which is not great, it's a tribute because you play very well.
