Jaffar is an assassin. Like thieves, he can use lockpicks to open doors and chests with, but can’t steal items from enemies. Instead, if he gets a critical hit, there’s a 50/50 chance his critical attack will defeat the enemy in 1 hit.

You got your first of 2 heaven seals, so now you can promote Lyn or Hector. Promote Lyn and she becomes a blade lord, allowing her to wield bows. Promote Hector and he becomes a great lord, letting him wield swords. If you go to Hector after chapter 8, you can promote Eliwood instead. He becomes a knight lord, turning him into a mounted unit. He also becomes able to wield lances.
