    I was wrong about the TnT track. LOL Been too long since I played, I guess. Mistook the sign for Monty's. You'll find one eventually, and it's worth the play. You can keep all keys in the bag. They work from there, so no reason to have them clogging up your personal inventory. Yeah, the constant level-ups can be desensitizing. You'll develop a preferred party of monsters in time and that becomes less of an issue. You'll typically end up sending most of the rest to Monty instead of leaving them in the party leveling up. No foul in looking up a monsters you can recruit list. It's not much different than looking up an equipment list, really. With 5 ( and absolutely 6, which I purchased along with a SNES/SFC adapter not long after it came out ) you're getting into the era where you could look up that information on the internet, so you're not even detracting much from the original experience doing so. I think you're making your way down the correct logical path to the solution to the sabercat boss fight. Yep, you're on the right track. Well, you've got the item you need. Didn't quite make the connection when you grabbed it, but you'll likely get it anyway since you're testing items. Yep, you got it. It's Saber. Bianca made a point of putting that ribbon on him ( which you should equip to him again ) and that was really the only clue beyond the messages that you absolutely caught onto during the battle. Don't think you really need to grind. Just grab that money from the bank and upgrade your equipment and you should be good.

    This one actually has resistances rather than having straight damage spells just miss. The Eyepods are strong against Bang family, so you get minimal damage against them. Last vid it was doing great against everything else in large groups. I'll still take piddly damage over magic resistance = miss any day - especially when they have dazzle. I'm thinking the Monster Munchies might still be in effect as well. Only way to know for sure is the message saying it wore off. I think it only lasts about as long as Holy Water though. You did use it right at the end of the previous video. Yep, there it is. That should make things easier. LOL I always thought the monster munchies helped in recruiting monsters ( similar items do in other games ) but all they do in this one is either possibly cause monsters to miss a turn if you use them in battle, or what you learned, the reverse of holy water if used outside. I only just learned that looking them up after the last video, because I didn't know about the reverse holy water effect. Tough fight, but mission accomplished. For some reason, DQ likes to make castles complicated. That goes double for any castle that doubles as a dungeon, but even non-plot castles sometimes have the throne room in unexpected places. I think there's a TnT track in the SE corner of town there down some stairs near a slime sign. I think that's what it was anyway. LOL Worth a run-through or two if that's what it is with all the tickets you have. You can win some pretty nice stuff.

      Yeah that monster munchies mistake made things much more difficult for me. I will check out that corner before leaving town. My goal is to pump out some DQ videos more often before school starts back up again, so we will see what happens. Thanks again for all the pointers you have given over my run of the series.

    In the NES era, Harry wouldn't have stopped you there. You would have just been left to wander and try to figure out what the hell you're supposed to be doing. LOL It's been so long since I played the SNES version, but I don't remember a plot warning there either. No real worries on wasting the gold. You'll inevitably get another monster that can use them. Fangs are the most common monster weapon. Slime Knights are good recruits, BTW. Nice abilities and great equipment draw. A little hard to get for that reason. Mini medals no longer taking up inventory slots was such a welcome change once they started doing it. I don't remember if the original version of the game did that or not. Some monsters like slimes will start gaining spells and skills eventually. Still have that scale shield you picked up from a chest. You can pass that along to Vlad or Hork. Equipment hoarding is a great habit in this one because there are so many recruitable monsters. Not so much in 6, 7, or 9, but 8 & 11 are great for hoarders due to the alchemy pot/fun-sized forge.

    Is there a way to make use of mako gems if you didn't pity or is it wasted? I have to skip cause i got Locke and Terra outfits, I'm casual, and ob10 aerith rod :p maybe a chance to finally use mr. Sephi :o

    • @Iggy010
      @Iggy010 5 днів тому

      Yes, if you go to your exchange and choose mako you can trade 100 gems for 3 power, magic, or stamina stones. You can also trade 50 for 20 Astrowinds for the highwind. However you might consider holding onto them if the weapon does come back in a draw. That will give you a leg up for the next time it drops.

    That bookshelf clue about the mirror is a useful one. Those items with the "found item" fanfare are mostly collectibles. You'll come across how to use them soon. You can actually use the monsters in the main party with the low wisdom. They just won't always obey your commands until they have 20 wisdom. Hang onto your old equipment unless you need the money from selling it. You can pass it along to a lot of monsters.

    • @Iggy010
      @Iggy010 8 днів тому

      Good to know. I figured you could still use the monsters on your team, but I think I'll hold off while with the wagon and add them when you don't have the wagon probably. So starting with this entry I can start my goblin hoarding of equipment? Oh good, here we go lol.

  • @leslumens
    @leslumens 12 днів тому

    "Saving Strength" means they're sacrificing a turn in order to do big damage the next round... Which can be Max HP 1-hit KO if they do the desperate attack and it hits. ( He says from highly unfortunate experience. ) They really went with a psychedelic magic animation for the Terracotta Warriors in this one. LOL I can't think of anything like that showing up in the other games. These more modern versions of the games do their best to eliminate the grinding. Even the remakes of 1&2 reduce it a lot. More equipment to find, earlier levels, more exp and gold, etc. Elfin Elixer = Max HP, and usually pretty rare. The old too good to use club. These 3d remakes like to hide things in the camera rotation. A lot of times when you're lost, start spinning the camera and you'll discover there was a door off in some corner you can't easily see in the standard view. Ladja is supposed to be speaking English as a second language more or less. That's why his dialogue is like a puzzle.

      Thanks for the input. Would it be beneficial to also show the potential buffs/debuffs you can get from each boss prior as well? Nothing wrong with just watching the beginning section getting the info to set up your team. Just trying to help out anyone I can in whatever way they need.

    • @ChrisJones-xd1re
      @ChrisJones-xd1re 13 днів тому

      @Iggy010 Yeah, wow, that would be awesome. Then players can plan the route with two strategies in mind. The only minus is it sounds like a lot of work, one, and two, I would put it at the end, because it would take a while to display all of it and say which buff was from which enemy. And so then you might lose the people who don't care about any of that. But displaying the enemies and their weaknesses doesn't take very long at all.

    As annoying as Harry is, he's got nothing on Charmles in 8. LOL I'd forgotten how many cryptic plot triggers this game has. I'm remembering a lot of wandering around trying to figure out who I was supposed to be talking to and what I was supposed to be doing now that I'm watching you. I don't remember where Pankraz is at the point where you are at the end, for example. Probably by that landing where the kidnappers were, but I'm not sure. That boomerang is going to be a great boon for you, clearing mobs. Always worth keeping a good single-hit weapon in your inventory for unexpected boss battles though.

    Pretty sure I didn't find Honey that quickly the first time. I wandered around town quite a bit if I remember right. Correct choice going west. Can't get into the castle without the "key" from the dwarf. The monsters in this one have sort of a friendship meter. The more you raise that, the better they obey your commands in battle. That's why Saber is doing so much defending instead of attacking at the beginning here. If I remember right, you get information about how to raise your compatibility soon. I think just spending time in the party is part of it. If you enjoy micromanaging, that system and the fact that monsters can use some equipment from the stores can be a micromanagers dream. LOL Monsters are your go-to for a while, but you'll eventually go to a full human party after certain events, most likely. That swamp in the basement of the cave reeks of a place where a small medal might be hidden. Equip that boomerang! Most likely stronger than what you're using now, and hits all enemies. The amount of luck you have running from battles is astounding. LOL

    Can't remember whether this one has it, but status showing your Exp for next level has become common in more recent games. Bianca and her mother are upstairs at the inn. I'm pretty sure I made that same mistake when I played this version the first time. Yep, they switched from Wyvern to Chimera at some point... Can't remember when. It's standard now. This game is where the monster wrangler thing got started. You'll be collecting monsters in this one. That Toff's Tea Set dialogue is another collectible side quest. Whips attack groups, and boomerangs attack all enemies, so keep that in mind when choosing weapons. ( Some special super-strong whips also attack all enemies ) They're typically weaker than single-attack weapons available at the same time, but the advantage of hitting more enemies is particularly useful for clearing mobs quickly. Don't forget you have stuff in your bag, and you can stuff the map and such in there as well. Only battle useful items and equipment in your personal inventory. No worries. This is actually the intended plot path. Your father comes down sick to prevent him from leaving town so you can rest when necessary. The plot won't advance until you complete this quest. The Sabrecat comes up quite often throughout the game. Pretty sure the automatic revive is only for this early part of the story. ( other than the hero or TPK, with the standard lose half your gold penalty ) You'll eventually need revive magic. No worries about the automatic plot point blocking you from entering the inn. The Toff's Tea Set comes up later when you can start placing your collectibles. That guy who mentions it is just a clue to start looking for collectibles. There are monster drops for mini medals in this one, so you'll always be able to get everything if you want it, even if you don't find all the hidden ones. Fighting mimics and their variants is worth it in this one because of those drops. At least it's worth it once you can survive them. LOL Chests aren't the only mimic-type monsters in this one, so beware of that. The TnT mazes also have mini medals, as well as other rewards. It's a board game type thing. You'll see the first time you play.

      I’m glad the plot doesn’t allow you to miss that part. The game is taking some getting used to but there is still a lot of familiarity there. I’m glad the game does tell you what each spell does. That is a huge upgrade. Are 4,5,6 as a trilogy as closely connected as 1,2 and 3 were?

    • @leslumens
      @leslumens 20 днів тому

      @Iggy010 The connection is through Zenethia,and that's it, really. The worlds of the three games don't reference each other. Bonus content in the remakes tie all the games together after a fashion, but it's more of a fourth wall break in most cases until 11S provides genuine connective tissue.

      From the perspective of dumping a potential 90,000 crystals for the pity, for a character I hardly use, I don't feel it is worth it for the purpose of getting in one stronger attack slightly quicker. I am sure there will be a mechanic added later where something like this will be more beneficial. Don't get me wrong it's a good weapon, but is it really worth dumping the possibility of that many crystals just to get it? I also think that the UW looks great cosmetically as well.

    Good point about the atb arcanum. Maybe helpful if there is also a quick attack and you need to apply some defense buff? This could be very niche but if you need to deplete a bar at the beginning of the battle to stun an enemy? For sure they will find a way to make it useful and probably that will be titan.

    • @Iggy010
      @Iggy010 23 дні тому

      Oh, I am sure they will add something that will "require" it. Or at least something that will utilize it so you don't have to be as precise with timing. I think it will just be a niche thing more than the meta moving forward. Titan will probably be the first one that will benefit from it.

    The action button should take care of talking, searching, opening doors, etc. And you should be able to search a lot of scenery. Pots, barrels, dressers, armoires... The barrels and pots will break when you do this, helping you keep track of what you've searched. The ship is Startropics Syndrome. You have to talk to everyone to advance the plot. The rude daughter is new to the remakes. Only Nera was present in the original. You can choose to control your party members in this one, thankfully. It's under misc. options, or tactics during battle. Putting your party on automated can be great for grinding or exploring, though. I can't remember when it was you got to choose which monster in a group you wanted to attack... I know you can in 11 in 3D mode, and you feel it when you go into 2D mode and can't do it anymore. This will be your first experience with the bag. You pretty much dump anything you don't want to use in battle into the bag. Keys work from in there, as do most key items. No more need for the vault for items, as the bag has unlimited capacity. I would actually recommend the 3DS version of 7. The only "experience" you're really losing is poorer graphics, controls, and some other lack of modern QOL. Plus you've got bonus content not available in the original. Same for 8, except you're getting a downgrade in sound/visuals there. May be worth playing the original for the awesome immersion. I would literally stand on the edge of a cliff and watch the sun set sometimes. It's hard to pass up all the bonus content and two new playable characters who are pure awesomeness in the 3DS version, though.

      The camera is taking some getting used to, it still presents itself like a static top down jrpg but being able to move the camera is to me at this time feels foreign. I do like that the action button can just do all those things. Great upgrade there. I will keep that in mind about 7 and 8.

    I'd forgotten about the moving statue puzzle. Gigademon's free defend because he has two turns is just straight up B.S., I agree. Lucky with the reflection from the Dress there. That at least cut his defense a little. Anderoug fight went particularly well, and got Explodet from the level-up. Nice! Of course, the odds of using it are slim. You're probably only going to consider sneaking a wizard class character in there for a few seconds to cast buff/debuff and then put them right back in the wagon. Seems like I remember that second moving statue puzzle in the final dungeon can be defeated by walking straight ahead. LOL Instincts on how to get through the dungeon were on point. Not so much for gathering treasure. There's really only 1 important one - the Sage's Stone. Mirror of Ra can be used to force those Imposters to change back, but it's hardly worth it since it takes a turn to do it. It's a casino prize in this one, and has no plot function this time out. I'm a little spoiled by DQ3 HD. The Return spell is so versatile in that one that I would have instantly ran to the final mountain upon emerging from the castle. You can return to practically any location you set foot in. You can even use it to cheat a little by using the teleportal shrines. You can exit a portal to somewhere you've never been, be blocked by a final key door from exiting, and then cast return to end up on the other side of it :) Taloon is absolutely a good choice for that second Sword of Miracles. Yep, Sage's Stone is a free Healus. Grinding another level never hurts. The save was a good choice considering that Clay Doll encounter went so badly. I think the Final Refuge revives as well, so you could have just backed out and gave it another run, letting her revive everyone. There's the reflection property of the equipment working against you. That heal reflected and you got it instead of Nara. The transformation animations were pretty awesome and unexpected back in the day. Kinda screwed with the almost all mage party against Necrosaro's final form because of the bounce spell he puts up. Meditate is usually a big heal, but not a full heal. Alena comes in clutch with the crit! In the remake, you can actually cure Psaro's madness and get him in the party to challenge the super bosses. There's a pretty good fan translation of the Playstation version of 5. The script was polished by a long-time DQ fan, so it's not as dry as some other fan translations. Like any fan translation, it requires emulation and some jumping through hoops, so if you can do the DS, that's the way to go. Every new release has improvements and additional content compared to the previous ones - with the exception of the Switch versions of 1-3, which are more basic. They're actually a good way for new people to experience a more true-to-original version of the games, because they have a lot of modern QOL elements but not much of the content added to later remakes. Enix has always been good with added content in remakes, unlike Square for a lot of years, and that tradition has continued. If there's a remake of a Dragon Quest, you can pretty much count on new bonus dungeons, new super bosses, and new playable characters - some of whom are pure awesomeness. Looking forward to 5!

    Dress of Radiance is kind of a mixed bag. It occasionally reflects spells that hit the wearer, which is good - unless that spell is a heal you were casting in an attempt to save their life. Staff of Jubilation can cause an enemy to miss a turn and laugh. Never worked very much for me, but it could be useful I suppose. Revive is certain revival. Can't remember whether it's full HP in this version, but that's the norm in later games. Mirror Shield is the same as the dress. Can be clutch reflecting spells or disaster reflecting heals. Should have heard me saying "Walk left!" when you exited the cave. LOL I missed the final refuge for the longest time my first playthrough. The head-desk was strong when I accidentally walked in there and discovered it. That final floor is your grinding spot. You could tell from that multi-metal battle that they hang around a lot longer, and you have the full heal and save right there only a couple of screen transitions away. Yeah, I never used Thordain because of that all members have MP requirement. Don't forget you can swap people out. Cristo might not have had much MP left, but it's an option. Or another physical with full HP and no stopspell item they try to spam. Don't forget to make a final call on spending your mini medals before the final boss. If you can't get the metal babble gear, at least grab another Miracle Sword. You'll absolutely want to get those silencing items off your main party before the final boss. Did a lot more diligent boat-based searching in this run of DQ3 HD. I noticed that I'd missed a lot of excellent free gear the first time by waiting to do a world tour, and doing it early is paying off. I'm finding stuff before I can afford it with mini medals, and those items are almost always gear that's advanced for when you can acquire them, so they're huge boosts. Plus, when I get the one from the medals, I have two. My thief turned sage uses a lot less MP by using thief abilities when they'll do the trick, and has a metal killing ability as well. Getting my fighter to 40-something for Critical Claim for metal hunting before class changing to monster wrangler. ( Guaranteed critical hit ) Priest turned soldier is proving useful with sap while the sage casts kabuff or oomph and with end of turn heals. The latter with AI turned on. I tend to turn off AI for battles to cast buffs and debuffs, then turn it back on so they can use heals when appropriate rather than guessing if I'll need one. AI is smart about healing, not so much about buffing and debuffing.

    You absolutely want to make sure everyone is decked out in good gear, because you may have to switch them in and out. Swordedge armor can be useful for metal grinding, but you're better off with breath/magic protection otherwise. Yeah, the gambling isn't at all random. It's actually designed to let you win after some perseverance. This becomes even more true as the series continues on. 11 is pretty easy even if you don't know the Roulette jackpot trick. You can get everything just from playing slots. The card on double-or-nothing isn't the last card you picked, it's a random card. It could come up a 2 again... Or a joker. Best bet is save-scumming. Pick a certain amount you're willing to lose, play until you get there, or go significantly up. Then save or reset as appropriate. When it comes to grinding, this game introduces Metal King Slimes, which make the exp from metal babbles look like chump change. LOL Hint: Near the end of this dungeon I believe. Oh god, Fairy Dragons! Those things are frikkin' evil. Ogrebasher is one of those miss or insta-kill enemies, and their HP gives them a few opportunities usually. Frikkin' Sprite Spirits. This dungeon is full of those Oh God enemies. Master Malice! Frikkin' basically a boss as a wandering monster, but with no boss-level rewards for beating him. And that's why you have the ability to remove buffs in this one. Without that, he can be unbeatable. Gods, the AI in this one. LOL Speaking of which, avoid Cristo in the final battle if at all possible. He's a meme in that fight trying to spam death spells. Using turns to revive Nara unless you have no other option is better. And save the Hero's MP for your final end-boss run. His HealUsAll can be clutch, but it's extremely expensive. Decided to go on easy difficulty while grinding jobs in DQ3 HD 2D. Such a good decision. Made the process so much quicker. Did the grinding in a place those characters wouldn't usually survive but has the best EXP per minute, ( and sometimes 75k in one battle ) switched the difficulty back, completed the bonus dungeons, got all wishes, and beat Grand Dragon for the final achievements. Now starting my second run with a far more endgame-conscious party, and it's making the whole game far smoother. Thief->Sage, Priest->Warrior, Fighter->Monster Wrangler for my first change that will likely be my Zoma party. Fast sage, warrior with more MP and some end of turn healing, lucky wrangler with lots of multi-attack options. It's been so highly recommended by old-school players that I snagged the on-sale bundle of Octopath Traveler 1&2. So I guess that's my next venture after this run.

    That eerie mist ability is one of the worst things an enemy can have. It's a little less deadly once you have the Sage's Stone. Running into that a lot in 2D-HD as well. Fortunately, the new abilities in the game aren't blocked by it, meaning you have other healing options if you've been running certain classes. Does look a lot like the FF1 Flame Armor chest doesn't it? Yep, the enemies in here are terrible with those double attacks and crits. Bolero is caster gear, and reduces MP cost, ( by half I think? ) but at the expense of better defense options. I think it's effect applies outside of battle. You'll have to check. It certainly does in some versions. In that case, it's awesome for your back-up healer in the wagon for cheaper healing between battles. Made it to Zenethia! I think you get access to the wagon up here after talking to Master Dragon. Drogan's breath can kill metal babbles... but he's uncontrolled like everyone else so it's dicey when he does it. The Zenethian Sword is powered up now, and is much stronger. Plus it absolutely has that use in battle ability that strips enemies of their buffs, just like the boss ability does to you. Revenge! LOL Time to pass on the Miracle Sword to someone else. I would strongly suggest gambling enough to get at least one Meteorite Armband. You really need one person with first out of the gate healing/buffing. Use your seeds at will in DQ3 HD 2D. They don't affect your level-up stats like they did in the original. You don't even lose the effect to the halving at class change. You maintain 100% of stat increases that result from seeds. So just think about what class you are and any you want to change into and use them appropriately as soon as you find them. Read up on the personalities before you start a game, though. It's more transparent in this version of the game than previous remakes, but you still want to know the downsides of them before you commit to a change. When you get into DQ3 2D HD, do not go with the standard party. It's fine for the main game and even the bonus dungeons, but the super-bosses? Not so much. You need characters with either more multi-hit attacks than the Hero's Falcon Hit ( 2 shots ) or to suffer with a Gadabout ( Goof-off ) for 45 levels until they get an ability that's basically Oomph for magic. The super bosses are of the beat them in X turns variety. Beating them is possible with any party, but doing it in 35, 25, or 15 turns is a stretch. You really need a thief early on anyway. Merchants give you some additional cash, have some great support abilities, one really good battle ability, and get all of them by max level 38. Thieves get most of their really good abilities fairly early as well + are fast as hell. Great transitions into other classes who then have those abilities that you need. You'll want a Monster Wrangler at some point as well. If not from the beginning, you'll want to class change someone into one eventually. The monster tournaments are the best source of money in the game, winning is the source of some awesome items, and you need a Wrangler to recruit some friendly monsters. Having a second team that has the classes you aren't using and giving them some field time or at least creating a team once you have easy access to metal babbles isn't a bad idea either. Otherwise, you have to do specific class changes for some sections of the bonus dungeon. I'm powering up my second team now who have all the abilities of one class and are now working on a second, because I need some of them up to speed for sections of the bonus dungeons that remain. Either that or put it on "Draky Quest" difficulty. You can never drop below 1 HP on that difficulty setting. No need to heal at all. I may actually utilize it while grinding, though I can't bring myself to cheat that much with fighting the actual bosses.

      I'm glad you told me about the powered up sword ability. Came in handy in my next play. I also did pick up a meteorite armband. Like we discussed earlier I think most people complaining about the random battle rate never played any of the original games because they were horrid then too lol.

    I usually clear the rest of the tree of treasure and such with 4, then make a straight run to the top with the 3 member party. You only have to be down to 3 at the very end. Shield of Strength and Water Flying Clothes are both good purchases. Strong defense + heal with the shield in battle and fire protection from the clothes. Search anywhere you can stand on leaves to find a Leaf of the World Tree. As long as you don't have one in your possession, you can find one. You can exploit the vault to get pretty much infinite leaves in the remake. I don't think it works in this one. Tedious to do even if it does. I didn't really like those sprites as dragons. They experimented for a couple of games, then standardized normal dragons to the DQ1 type for the rest of the series, making the experimental ones new dragon-type monsters. The Zenethian Sword isn't in its "final" form yet. It gets stronger. I can't remember whether it's in this one or only the remakes, or whether it's only after powering up, but it can also be used as a item in battle to cast that disruptive wave attack that disables buffs enemies have cast on themselves. Nope, Dew of the World Tree is a muli-heal item. HealUs in item form. The postgame enemies in DQ3 HD 2D are nightmares. You can run into up to 3 King Hydras which are part of the main game's final boss gauntlet, and that's really not the worst possible encounter. I can make it to the end of the second bonus dungeon where you can wish for the third one, but it's barely, and I ain't getting no wishes for a while. I'm 4x the number of turns to earn a wish. LOL Grinding time. ( And manual control. The AI spends too much time buffing ) Actually, I think I'll go on clean-up, hunting down small medals. I have 103 and I should have 108 right now. Missed 5 somewhere. I have my thief leveled up enough to use the find treasure abilities now, so it's the world tour trying to track down 5 medals and any other oddball things I missed. The Gringham Whip might be useful for grinding, and it's the next prize up. And I take back a previous comment. They made the Mod Rod ( staff of transform ) just as annoyingly random in HD 2D as it is in the old NES games. LOL You do at least get it back in this version so you can go back to buy Prayer Rings and Elfin Elixers ( full MP, but 40k a pop! And gold isn't just lying around in this game either. That's a hefty sum for one full MP refill. )

On anni I went full magic with tifa and aerith and it stepped up my game so will do that for Physical and wait. If this ever reruns and locke’s goes to high in one cast at ob6 I will chase. While terras debuff is high at ob6 I think my aertih sometimes needs to be fully focused on healing and def buff so she won’t have time to debuff elemental even if high

    The cranked up encounter rate in the upper levels of the mine are a story element, I believe. It's supposed to lend credence to the townsfolk panicking. I'm not 100% positive, but that spot near the visible Weretiger enemy in the mine where the little peninsula dips into the water may be a small medal location. Either that or a similar spot deeper in. I'm positive there's one in the new areas of the mine hidden. ( Plus some in the chests inside Estark's Palace ) At least it's just the screen flashing. Imagine if it was playing that Final Fantasy 1 poison sound. LOL Yeah, the pseudo 3d elements of this game sometimes make your path not particularly obvious. Probably worth it to consider a change-up to your assault team. There's one spell in particular that is EXTREMELY useful at the end of the palace that your current team doesn't have access to. Because your casters are so specialized in this one, you actually have to trade people in and out for certain situations, no matter how tempting it is to keep the dream team of physical smashers who dominate through most areas. Otherwise you've got to grind the heavy-hitters higher than you would need to with the right support characters. Make sure you come back to that skeleton after the end of this dungeon. What he's guarding is what you came for. The freezing wave ability eliminates any buffs you've cast on your party. It's an attack that continues from here on out in the series. The sleep spell is extremely useful against Estark. He's highly susceptible to it. That's the one I was talking about. You brute-forced your way through with aplomb, but the chess method can make it even easier. I've actually managed to keep him asleep to the point he never got off a single shot at times. You can use outside once you're back into the mines proper. Another great thing about DQ3 HD 2D is the mechanic that later games have introduced of level-ups fully restoring your HP and MP to the new max is present. It means you can damn near use your most powerful spells at will. At about the time you're running out of MP, you level up and get it all back. Carry a few MP restoratives for when the timing is off, and you can blast your way through. The AI is pretty good as well. I spend a lot of time with everyone set to "Fight Wisely" so I can just sit back and watch my casters annihilating everything and my physical attackers mopping up whatever's left. AI also takes advantage of elemental weakness, and even uses abilities that are good for killing metal critters. When I created my standard party, I also created one each of every other class. Thief and Monster Wrangler have useful abilities, decent equipment, and are fun to play. Merchants and Gadabouts ( goof-offs ) still suck. LOL Merchant could be useful if you're grinding gold, but you never really need to, so they're just there to create the frontier town. Gadabouts are only good for changing into sages, though they do have some unique equipment with really high defense. Fighters are still kind of "eh..." Probably best used as agility boosts and class changing into soldiers, because soldiers are slow as hell. Once I got of Alihian, I took all the spare characters out with the hero, got them up to a decent level, and then every so often, I'd bring them all out and get them another level. Meant that my Hero was fully prepared for the solo dungeon, and I got to play with all the new characters to test them out. Also means I have a thief and monster wrangler who can survive in the more dangerous areas in order to use their special abilities to find monsters and hidden treasures. Stumbled across a hat that causes every spell one of my sages casts to "echo" meaning it casts a second time for no MP. Double blasts, double heals, and the AI is smart enough to use weaker spells that will get the job done when it echoes. Instead of using Healall, it will use Moreheal and the double will have the same effect. It's a game-changer. The Maw of Necrogond beat me up pretty badly. Once I found that hat, my meteorite armband sage nukes the dangerous critters before they can use the abilities that were making my life hell. LOL

    Glad that clue was sufficient for the roof :) Multi-Edge sword is powerful, but damages the wielder with every hit. Yikes, Blizags! Those things and their death spells can be terrors. And colossus complete! The frikkin' Masks in this one are so bloody annoying. Early on before you can 1-hit them, they can be damn near impossible. Staff of Transform and the right appearance will let you talk to the enemies wandering around the castle without getting into battles. There you go! Monster castle is just information gathering. They gave you a vital clue about where to look. ( Weretiger and Imp ) I think the Aeolus Shield casts Expel when used in battle... Can't remember for sure. Yep, Akemto is your destination, and then the skies! More DQ3 HD improvements. The item menu has a "Bag" option, meaning you don't have to do transfer, select bag, and you save yourself a button press. The Expel spell ( now called Blasto ) that sent your companions back to Alihan? Now they're just gone until the end of the battle and then return. Return spell now works indoors, which while a small thing, is much welcome. Enemies also have additional attacks and abilities to balance all your new weaponry and options. It starts out much easier, but then balances. Good way to get new players and casuals used to how things work before ramping up the difficulty to more of a challenge. If you're diligent searching everywhere, you can get away with not buying weapons and armor for most of the early/mid game by found equipment and mini medal rewards. Items to heal all the conditions. Two more stages of health/MP healing items ( most of which can be bought in bulk ) Lots more options for prayer rings, though you should still stock up before ditching the Mod Rod. ( staff of change ) Speaking of death spells from earlier, Dieamends are a thing in this one, which protect you from one death spell before shattering. Keep a couple on everyone and no more getting toasted by the first Thwack. New bosses for most of the Orbs that didn't have them, and they're strong Mo-Fos. The monster collecting and tournaments ( replacing the gambling monster rings ) is fun and rewarding. Return spell has options for pretty much every location on the map. Every shrine, dungeon, town... So convenient. New, weaker revive spell called "Zin" that you get earlier, meaning you're not without revive for so long. Plus there are a few Leaves available earlier on as well. Lots more leaves to find as well. I have reserves right now. Just got Ramia and stumbled upon my second Words of Wisdom ( Book of Satori ) almost immediately. As soon as Ramia started flying, I saw one of the places you can't reach without her, landed, and there it was. LOL So I'm rocking a second Sage now. Conveniently, right after my priest got Healus. It will be a while before I get full revive now, but my first Sage ( former wizard, going off your example ) is coming up on it much more quickly.

    You need to find a way to end up on the roof of the Endor secret weapon shop in order to get those chests. I typically go with Nara for the Metal Babble Sword just because it's so far above most of her options, and everyone else that can use it has stronger options than she does otherwise. Never misses metal critters and does 2 damage instead of 1. One of your collection of metal killing tools available in the game, which is another reason she typically gets it. She's part of your ultimate metal killing team. I may be misremembering, but I think on that first floor with all the jail doors, all your party members gain EXP from kills, so that's the place to metal babble hunt if you're going to. Yep, Mara leveling up on that floor confirms it. Staff of Antimagic functions like the sphere of silence, but is also an equippable weapon that may be better than what your wizards have. Staff of Magma will probably be the permanent pure damage weapon for one of them. Staff of Transform is still truly random in these old iterations, which makes it frustrating as hell. As the series goes on, it becomes less random and tends to default to whatever form you need more often. Playing DQ3 HD/2D and having a blast. The new jobs and abilities for old jobs are fun to play with. All the modern QOL elements are there. Medal king is in Alihian, and you can get the first prize before ever leaving the city, which is a whip that hits groups and turns your wizard into a No-MP powerhouse early on. Then not long after you get a boomerang that hits all enemies for the hero. Joyful destruction. LOL New items that remove silence/dazzle. Bigger inventory so you can carry specialty weapons, which you can switch out at will during battle. Beautiful visuals, excellent remastered score, and new stuff everywhere. Hidden stuff doesn't all have an obvious container or sparkles either. Some of it is just hidden underfoot, so you have to keep your eyes open for "interact" prompts and curious spots. Your memory of the maps and where treasure chests are still serves you, though.

      Yeah I assumed the party member going to jail lost you that slot. I recorded the next one immediately after this one. That sword of miracles is a nice little boost for sure, both in damage and in the minor heal it provides. It still is crazy to see how far this franchise has come in the 4 games of the NES era. I know when I go to 5 it is going to be a huge jump considering it won’t be the original 5.

    Good choice on that side trip to find Panon. Zenethian helm is just defense in this version, I believe. It has some status protection in the remakes. No matter what tactic you're using, a healer will pretty much always use heal when a character is in the green danger zone. Got him! Balzack goes down! Down to your last dribble of MP, but you got him! Magma staff is both a quest item and a pretty good weapon for your wizards. Decent hit strength + all enemies AOE attack, and you don't lose it after using it for its quest function. Nice RPG intuition in finding the Fire Claw. Great weapon + group AOE attack, giving Alena some versatility. FFR Archer job is interesting. Equipment draw is wizard bad except they can use the dancer scarves. Weapons are basically limited to the new bows, because all of the job's abilities require them. They can use knives, but you surrender all of their abilities if you do. Bows have a single hit absent a fast spell, which means slow makes them impotent. Damage is pretty bad in the beginning, but once you have a bow with a solid hit rate and a better crit rate ( which are significantly higher than any other weapons ) they begin to catch up around Earth Cave because their base damage is much higher than most weapons. HP in the beginning is terrible. It reaches wizard/thief level about the end of Earth cave. The arrows you can craft and serve as their magic command are what sets them apart. They all increase damage, have a creature hit bonus, and attempt to inflict a status with pretty high success. I hit Astos with a paralyze arrow in round 1 and he was out for the entire fight. Nailed Lich with silence in round 1, rendering him basically impotent. There's an arrow that nulls a creature's touch attacks like Cockatrice stone or Sorcerer death, though it's irrelevant with cockatrice since that arrow is also strong against flying enemies and annihilates them. Poaching the materials to make the arrows is tedious in the beginning, but becomes much easier after class change with the world ability to infinitely search for random materials anywhere you can encounter battles. I just left Bahamut, so I'm curious about the hunter's mark ability, which is supposed to cause every hit on that creature from anyone to crit. Probably the go-to for status immune monsters from now on. Also found the quest bow, which has a 50% crit rate.

    Vaults and banks steadily improve as the series goes on. They're pretty basic and tedious at this point. You can win Metal Babble Helms from a metal monster later. It's a rare drop ( or steal if Taloon is in the party and decides to do it. ) You're technically only supposed to ever be able to get 1 whether from small medals or drops, but if you put the one you have in the vault, you can actually get extras. ( Assuming you're willing to endure the tedious grind for them ) Sword of Miracles is just really good for a really long time, so having two of them makes it worth skipping the helm from the small medals, even if you're not going to farm one. I would grab at least one Sword of Miracles ASAP. It makes the character wielding it almost self-sustaining. Ragnar, Taloon, and the Hero can use it, I believe. Maybe Nara and Cristo? Can't remember. Almost positive of the first three. You can get Meteorite Armbands and Metal Babble Shields from gambling in Endor, BTW. Metal Babble Shield casts fendspell when used as an item, and you know what the armband does from previous installments. You can get a sense of the not-truly-random poker game after a while, and double-downs can build tokens fast. Zenethian Armor reduces spell and breath damage by a third, so very nice for our hero. Yep, I was right that everyone will jump out of the wagon after an active TPK in this version. Oh my lord I was screaming at the screen when you went back into the cave. LOL I knew that wasn't going to end well. Alas, one of the most unfortunately named enemies in JRPG history is still a bit strong. Playing the new FFR version. Spellblade has a great equipment draw. Only 1 spell per level so not super expensive. A little weak in the HP department. Spellblade is also targetable, meaning you can use it on allies. The after class-change abilities have some serious utility. Runic absorbs up to 3 spells cast on that turn ( enemy or ally ) and builds up charges. You can then use those charges to hit every enemy on screen on your next turn with devastating physical attacks. Block 3 of those MadCat Fire2 spells, then make them pay for trying to fry you on your next turn. I really hope it works on Gas Dragons. LOL Still have two visits with the new wandering swordsman NPC who gives elemental weapons, so it will be interesting to see what devastating new weapons are in my future. The new Paladin quest is a little lame. The reward is a shield that isn't even super strong and has no resistances, but randomly neutralizes spells hitting the Paladin. That could be okay if you didn't have to TRADE X-CALIBUR FOR IT! Fortunately, you can trade back and forth at will between the sword and shield. I'll try out Archer in my next run of the game.

      Yeah, I it will be nice if we can start to withdraw more of the same item in one transaction. I get why it works this way as each item takes its own slot in this version. I had already recorded the next one prior to this comment. I will probably be grabbing that sword in my next play. I honestly forgot about the gambling in Endor, I should probably check it out again. I will probably do a new run of FFR here soon. I want to check out the new classes. Thanks as usual for the tips.

      I'm waiting to see what the other banners look like first. I will probably at least go for a minimum 1 5* on this one eventually.
