Not familiar with Kyle Samani, but was he out there in the months after FTX making the case for SOL as vociferously as he is here? If ETH price had not been lagging the rest of the market over the past year would he be publicly saying the same thing? Markets are more than just sentiment, but this kind of SOLETH chest-thumping must give some indication of how far some would have to go to chase an ETH catch-up.

A little annoying about how you guys saved all the best counter points until Kyle was offline. Would've liked to hear him try to defend why the US dollar would be superior to anything crypto offers in the future and how they plan on working on the decentralized portion of their decentralised nasdaq target.

ETH has to be slow because it has so much value stored on chain. Sol is a meme coin of a chain and was offline many many times compared to 0 downtime. Sol can be fast because no one holds any real value on that chain. Money is what you use at a coffee shop..... We have a definition of money: PROTA - Portability, Observability, Reliability, Transferability and Acceptance - His second take on money is it's no longer what you buy coffee with but scarcity. His takeaway from it was "The Eth ecosystem is so hard and complex to understand that you have to navigate all these chains and L2s". How does sending a non-crypto person USDC on Optimism become any more or less complex than on Solana? On OP you need ETH and on Solana you would need SOL to transact. All the other steps mentioned (send to exchange/bank account/mobile wallet) are all inherent complexities to crypto in general, not to any specific chain.

Do you know what is the funniest thing about crypto? They say to optimize decentralization to help ppl in totalitarian states like China. I bet the same talking heads have never even visited China or know ppl over there. The wealthy just want to store money in USD based assets, just like Kyle said. The average guy/gal doesn't earn enough to pay for the high gas to accommodate home stakers. It is like the space is building for a fictitious group we made up in our minds, with little confirmation of reality. The space deserves to go to zero when billions are spent and invested in building things we don't even know who the end users are.

He doesn't say much about apps. It seems like the incentives for app developers today are on L2s like Blast, Base, and Ronin. That's where I spend my time using apps anyway. Solana is a singular opportunity for app developers, whereas there are a multitude of platforms for developers to try on Ethereum, where they can even spin up their own L2.

I get his POV, he has like the norm POV...the only thing that matters is the product side/decentralization doesn't matter/bitcoin is irrelevant/coordination in a decentralized environment is slow/etc. I can understand his position but I wholeheartedly think he is 100% wrong, he understands that crypto maps more into republicans because democrats are fully committed to controling the masses while republicans are a bit more leniant and sympathetic to libertarian ideals. Ultimately the value in crypto is all because of one thing, credible neutrality. That is what separates us from everything else. If we did not have Bitcoin or ETH, this space would be worth 0. Imagine comparing a network that is in beta and has downtime with 9 y.o. ethereum. The EF is out of touch. Fortunately Ethereum reached a level of maturity and decentralization that the EF alone cannot prevent or be decisive in any outcome. The EF does suck ass and does not have any mechanism for community feedback. It's heavily traumatized by early days events and it ends up suppressing innovation. Anyway. Kyle has never been right about anything, ever. He does make a valid point about ETH taking too long to commit to a scalability path due to the absence of competition. That said, he does not understand anything about '"is money". USD is not money in most places in the EU. The more local and embedded a currency is in a community, the more money it is. All Ethereum projects depend heavily on ETH. Denominating or bootstraping with dollars vs ETH is idiotic. As such, ETH is moreso money than dollars in the Ethereum ecosystem. It is native and more capable within it than much more risky stablecoins. The same applies to NOK in the norwegian economic settlement system or the Bristol pound in the Bristol hippie economic network. Neutrality is a pretty basic concept. The distribution of SOL, the concentration of ownership makes it non-neutral and prone to censorship. A handful of people have majority stake. They won't do it because of upside is not sufficient as it can overnight turn into a game of chicken. Ownership distribution is probably the most important aspect of neutrality as well as decentralization. "At that point you become an L1" - that's because Kyle does not value at all neutrality or censorship resistance. He thinks that all it takes for a network to be sustainable is raw, unsophisticated use volume. The network being controlled or overwhelmingly benefiting a small number of entities is of no concern to him. Game of chicken intensifies. Kyle's pasta is good. I agree that Ben E.'s take is dumb. Most world and people that would stake have fiber or mobile connections better than that.
