Via Alpina Yellow Trail - Ep.13 - Segments B37-40

I have been on the trail for so long and have traveled so far that it is difficult for my mind and body to understand that this is almost over. The final days are really amazing. This has been such an amazing journey. I feel refreshed and relaxed and ready to start the next part of my life. I really enjoy doing these adventures as they allow me to harness my independence, only relying on my ski...

In this episode of my Via Alpina adventure, I continue my journey from Vent to Zams. The stunning views of the mountains and valleys continue to leave me in awe. The temperatures have dropped a bit, but I'm prepared with warm clothes and gear. As I trek through the long stretch of 30km in a valley, I'm reminded of the perseverance and determination it takes to complete this journey. Camping jus...

In this episode, I continue my journey through the Alps, starting at Bolzano and making my way to Vent. The road-walk out of Bolzano was long, but I managed to cover a lot of ground and knock-out several segments of the trail. I even surprised myself with how much distance I can cover now, sometimes moving 30km in a day. Finding a good spot to sleep can be a challenge, and I ended up illegally ...

In this episode I walk through the heart of the Dolomites and find one of the most amazing camping spots at Rifugio Bolzano. My endurance has really improved and I can move great distances now and climb a lot of elevation in just one day. As such, I can really knock-out these segments. It has been a few days since my last sleep on a bed and I am lucky enough to have a good friend who lives in K...

In this episode I make my way down passing by a historical castel Castello di Andraz; the towering cliffs of the dolomites surrounded my views everywhere I went. I randomly meet up with some friends who came from Czech Republic and spent a rest-day doing some sport-climbing with them. I then made my way to Passo Pordoi were I got caught in a freak thunderstorm just below the treeline. Lighting ...

In this episode of my Via Alpina Yellow Trail vlog, I have made it to the Dolomites and I couldn't be more amazed of the beauty. A little food-poisoning slowed me down the first day and I ended up getting a room at Rigugio Padova where I slept for about 16 hours and fully recovered. The following day to Rifugio Citta di Fume was pretty difficult as well. I really appreciate the solitude I have ...

In Episode 7 of my Via Alpina Yellow Trail journey, I had to take a break and dry all of my gear and clothes in the sun at the summit of a nearby mountain after getting rained on. It was a much-needed pause that allowed me to take in the breathtaking views. I continued on to Forni di Sopra, where I found a unique place to sleep for the night- a basketball court at the edge of town. The next day...

In this episode of my Via Alpina adventure, I hike Segments B13 and B14 from Telmozzo to Sauris di Sopra. After fixing my footwear issues, I was lucky enough to get a ride to Telmozzo and started my hike from there. I slept in the woods near Ovaro and had some peaceful and secluded sleep. The next day, I tackled the first challenging mountain of my journey, Sauris di Sopra. It was a long and di...

    That was a big effort, nice work! Although, have to say, Sawtooth traverse in May with full snow coverage, and doing it solo, I'd chalk it up to naivete, but at least you made a good call to turn back. BTW - that wasn't the peak of Evans (now named Mt. Blue Sky). The actual peak is further northeast along the ridge, past the unnamed 14+ peak you can see from the downclimb of Bierstadt (which is pronounced Beer-stat.)

    You started early and had great weather and so were able to do this hike in one day. But I urge everyone to not consider this a one day hike - so many things can slow you down and be fatal. My niece died on this hike two years ago trying to do it in one day. She was experienced and had 40 14-ers under her belt. A late start and bad weather at the end of the day doomed her. I don't know if she saw this video and thought it was a hike that could be accomplished in one day. But it scares me that some people might see this and think it will always be this easy. Please give yourself enough time and ALWAYS always always take your emergency equipment even if you think its a simple day hike. Stay alive.

    Best thing about this video: humility. Not arrogant, just down to earth and mild mannered. I get tired of the Mountain Dew/Xtreme folks that do this stuff. You just were real easy going and methodical. Excellent job.

    Nice video. I just attempted Capitol (with a guide) at the end of July. Viewers should note there is a class 4 section you have to do if you want to summit K2. When I summited K2, the fog was so thick, you couldn't even see the knife's edge or Capitol. From our campsite just below Capitol Lake, it took us 4 hours to summit K2. Then the light rain/sleet forced us to turn around. Traversing down through the rock field was very dicey as the moisture made the lichen covered granite slick.

    • @nickjonson6996
      @nickjonson6996 2 роки тому

      You don't have to summit K2. There is a route, as you approach K2, to the right (to the left on your return). Apparently it is rarely used as most people head straight for the K2 summit (as I did) and then have to deal with the difficult class 4 section to descend.

    excellent video quality ... My notes on Maroon climb ALWAYS wear a helmet ...even some of the lower elevations rocks were coming down BE VERY AWARE of the rocks nearer the top .. 1 rock came within 50-60 yards of us that was basketball size ..easily enough to end your life The DOWN CLIMB is ALWAYS the most dangerous ..... the tendency is to be less aware of danger and exceeding your abilities ALWAYS turn back if bad weather is coming ... some of the routes were moderately difficult to follow

    Fantastic. I always like it when non-locals try out sandstone climbing. The three different ways of filming the climbs were also interesting. I usually enjoy the POV most. It looks like you chose some awesome routes as well. Do you know the name of the first tower? Since Udolni Cesta just means valley route and lots of towers have a route named that way it could be anywhere.

    Know these czech climbing routes by several visits some 15 ys ago at other areas there (Prihrazy, Hruba Skala and the famous city of rocks in Adrspach): challenging rock climbs, but an amazing experience, especially in the last mentioned area. The highpoint there is a couple of two over 100m tall rock towers leaning at each other among thousands of other spires being located there around

    Nice chill vid, but I have one problem with it. The rules of sandstone climbing mostly prohibit use of chalk. This is specific for the area and the grade of the route, I am quite sure that the route you climbed does not meet these conditions. I highly advise you to go sandstone climbing with experienced climbers, who know both written and unwritten rules of the area and can help you with compliance. Many locals get easily upset and it could be a big problem. Also participation of experienced sandstone climber might come in handy for placing knots and picking routes. Stay safe and see you at the crag :)

    • @tacocat0
      @tacocat0 3 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment. Labské Údolí is an area where chalk use is allowed every one I saw there was using it. I think there may be certain crags where chalk is not allowed but those rules are usually applied to the sandstone towers to the east where even bolting is not allowed. I will get advice from the locals before I do any sort of route that will require the use of knots.

    • @alcupone6462
      @alcupone6462 3 роки тому

      @@tacocat0 the rules are not explicitly prohibiting it, but there is stated, that chalk should be used for routes graded IXa and higher.

    • @qpdp1
      @qpdp1 10 місяців тому

      @@alcupone6462 that's totally not true. The chalk ban in on the right side of the Elbe, not here. No one would get upset for using chalk on the left bank of the Elbe. @tacocat0 did nothing wrong in the video and it is ridiculous to call him out for using chalk when the routes were evidently heavily chalked already :D

    • @alcupone6462
      @alcupone6462 10 місяців тому

      @@qpdp1 it does not seem chalked to me. I was not meant as calling him out, this was meant to be more of an advice for his future trips and he accepted it as politely as I wrote it. Having the rules one way does not mean it would be generally accepted to do it that way. Especially on easier grades, let's say VIIIa/XIa and easier it could be looked down upon and it is always better to inform yourself.
