A scenic drive through New England in the fall of 2024
Though we really wish we could have had our Scamp, Wanderlust, for this trip, we made the best of our trip to Boston by renting a car and seeing as much of New England as we could.
We drove across Massachusetts, into Vermont and New Hampshire. Unfortunately, our camera didn't properly capture the beautiful colors we saw, and it rained quite a bit. We'll just have to make another trip, and with the Scamp.
Please be sure to like and subscribe if you'd like to follow along on our adventures. Also hit the notification bell so you don't miss updates as they're posted. We don't get paid for these, we just make them because we love to share our journey.

Visiting Salem, MA in October

We left the Scamp at home and had a good time visiting Salem, MA just before Halloween. It was such a spectacle and the juxtaposition of Halloween fun and the terrible history that made it a destination spot for fall festivities is a bit hard to wrap your head around. Though we really enjoyed our time, we did think it important to reflect on the (mostly) women and men that lost their lives in t...

Time for our annual trek out of the city for the 4th of July. Our dogs are terrified of fireworks, and even though they're illegal where we live because of high fire danger, people let them off for days ahead and after the 4th and late into the night. So hook up the Scamp and we head to State and Federal campgrounds for some quiet each year. This year we head to McPhee Reservoir and State Campg...

@@scampwanderlust looking forward to the next one.
Thank you for your video. I ask the Scamp people abou the wait time and they emailed me back and they said they enlarged their factory and from the time you order your scamp it is about 9 weeks from the time they put the fiberglas in the mold to the time you hook it to your car or truck and drive off camping. Part of the email they sent me:Currently if you ordered this week, we would have a deluxe model completed the week of December 9th 2024. We have expanded our manufacturing plant and has really ramped up our production. this was the 14th of October 2024.
That's awesome! I also heard they're opening a factory in Arizona soon too!
I've done 100's. Facebook doesn't give a damn about the SCAMMER ...
Sadly, that seems to be true.
No bathroom, no sink, no stove, and I didn’t see a refrigerator. You might as well just pay 200 bucks and buy a tent, a cot and a great cooler. I hate it.
I could deal without the bathroom, as I hate dumping Black tanks. Plus all the campgrounds I go to have GREAT shower houses nearby.
I'm too old, and my back is too broken to sleep in a tent anymore.
What size proven coupler lock? I assumed 2 inch. Just want to make sure.
It's been a while since I bought it, but 2 inch sounds right.
Very interesting. I love to cook outside and spend most of my time outside. I use an electric skillet inside to do a lot of indoor cooking when it's rainy or in the morning. No water lines or tanks to winterize is a plus for me.
She did an excellent job explaining everything. You got yourselves a nice little cozy scamp camper. Love it! :)
We love it too!
Because there are no water or black water tanks and no lines running to the stove & furnace, more storage space is available under the benches. This is an advantage. There are fewer holes or openings in the shell, which makes for less problems with insects, etc. This is basically like a tear drop trailer, only you can stand up in it. You can plug in an electric heater if you need it. You can use the counter for a one burner to heat water or food.
I kind-of wish there was a half-way point for this. Keep the fridge, and perhaps a small sink.
I wouldn't miss the heater or the stove or the sink. We could cook on our camp stove, but would want a ceiling fan for safety reasons (blow the Carbon Monoxide out)
Ordered mine last week will put up video when we get it
@@tfptalowahfishingpaddlinga3742 can’t wait to see it!
I love the barebones Scamp Lite perfect for what I wanted. They did go up on the price by a grand since it was released. There are so many portable options for cooking, portable fridges. I don't want to have to cook inside and this allows me to cook inside or outside. Most that get the Scamp Lite aren't looking to hang out in it, so I think Scamp totally hit the sweet spot.
Always enjoy your videos! I am a fellow Scamp owner.
@@jameswilson9019 thank you so much!
Just go to home Depot and get yourself a cargo trailer in the size you want then put the stuff you want in it. Save yourself a ton of money ! ! ! No scamp is worth what you're going to pay for it! They fade horribly even if you keep them waxed because the gel coat on a scamp is garbage. The floor is made out of OSB, not even plywood. In two years the shell will be resting on the rear bumper and the tongue. Spider cracks will start there. The interior is covered in that horrible cheap carpet with strips of carpet glued over the seams that can loosen and fall off. Like I say, get yourself a cargo trailer and if you don't know how to put windows in it have a carpenter do it for you. Hope this helps.
very helpful. thanks!
The 2025 floors are composite so that has been resolved. I think rather it is worth it or not is a personal decision each one of us have to make. I've seen 10 year old scamps that aren't faded and have no cracks. If you don't do normal maintenance any camper will deteriorate over time, these things are not bullet proof. There is really nothing much on this lite model that you have to worry about. Not everyone has the ability to build out a cargo trailer so there is that. But you saying these things are garbage is YOUR opinion and I think there are a lot of us that disagree with your assessment.
@@siriusmac thanks for posting this. Good to have another opinion.
I like it and I'm from Michigan so I don't want air conditioning in my camper and I don't want the hassles of a bathroom inside my camper I can do good with a porta potty and a Gatorade jug😂... The only thing I would like in it is a two burner cooktop
I’ve reported several of these types of scams recently, and in every case I received the following message from FB: “We Didn’t Remove the Listing Thanks again for your report. This information helps us reduce unwanted content for you and others. We use a combination of technology and human reviewers to process reports and identify content that goes against our Community Standards. In this case we did not remove the content you reported. If you think we made a mistake, you can request a review of this decision within 180 days.” Do you have any tips for successfully removing these types of listings? In this case the sellers I reported used the same photo used on listings from multiple sellers in multiple locations all for a free Scamp.
This Scamp Lite is better than tent camping in wet weather but I'd miss having my running water inside and stove for making breakfast on rainy mornings. I love my bathroom but could probably be happy with a porta-potty. I wouldn't miss my hot water because I don't mind a cold shower and can heat water to wash dishes on my stove. Never have used my awning and only need one propane tank. So Scamp Lite has less than I want but certainly could be equipped with portables as needed such as an ice chest, porta-potty, heater and stove for outside cooking.
@@monikalenz2559 agreed on most of that. We don’t use the sink in our scamp, but do use the cooktop a some. It’s a great option to have on rainy mornings like you said.
@@scampwanderlust There are many portable cooktops that will fit perfectly right on that cabinet. :). Hello fresh coffee!
I think this is an interesting option for the weight and the price. It's priced about the same as a Go, which is a pop up tent. I have a RAV4, so this is one I would consider.
@@TheDebbieweeks what’s the tow capacity on a Rav4?
@@scampwanderlust I have a hybrid, so 1750.
@TheDebbieweeks Get a V6 equipped Crossover. Sell your weak Hybrid vehicle.
@@travelinman482 Did I ask for advice on what vehicle to drive? I'll keep my 45 mpg, thank you. Hybrids tend to have higher tow capacities than their gas counterparts. The electric motor adds torque.
@TheDebbieweeks Ok, Karen. Tone it down a bit. Hybrids do not tow more than traditional V6 or turbocharged V6 engines. I've been working on cars and on farms for over 30 years. I know about trucks, etc.
Good video. You showed it exactly how it is there. But I never got to see water on the ground ... amazing.
@@chuckvoss9344 lucky timing after rain. Made for a great shot!
Too expensive for no shower/toilet. Stove, fridge, storage are all things that can be remedied easily but the convenience of having a toilet/shower combo is waaaay important. IMHO
We don't have a shower or toilet in our 13' Scamp. We either shower at State campgrounds, or use an outdoor shower if boon docking. We also have a popup privacy tent for a portapotty when boondocking. Ask me again in 10 years though. I might change my mind.
@@scampwanderlust Nice, but I wouldn't want to use an outside shower in the Winter. And if I have a RV (regardless of which Class it is) I want to use it ALL year long, so it needs to be 4-sSeason capable. But being outside in freezing (and maybe windy Wind Chill temps) weather while boon-docking? No thanks...you're hardier than I am (or want to be). ;-) Same for those TTs that have an outside kitchen: Why is THAT such a great idea? Who wants to be cooking outside when it's raining, snowing (freezing) or windy? No thanks, NO outside kitchen for me (so most teardrop TTs are out, besides the fact you can't stand up in them). But yes, I realize lots of people DO get those kind of RVs...it's just that I never would. So, the "minimum" Scamp for me would be a 13' with the front bathroom/shower. That'd be fine for my long Interstate road-trips and long weekend camping/outings. And my mid-size truck would tow it very easily (the 16' would be just a tad too large). Still, like Casita, Scamp is stuck in the past design/feature (and vision-wise!) and lacks innovations a number of us would like to see today, but they (owners/designers) refuse to "cooperate." Regardless, I could make do with their 13 model. -- BR
I'm coming here in October.
I'm going to guess that Daemon is a Capricorn and Kristina is an Aries.
@@austinstitzel wrong on both, but my brother is a Capricorn.

Can't you get a wheel for the hitch to help?
@@johnmackey3937 you can. Though the dolly was much easier for me than the hitch wheel.
Has a good list of options. The gel coat seems like a labor-intensive extra, put in the price, it should be an option , and a couple of usable choices instead, add electric brakes, as an option just a safety issue is all! Google Scamp lite 13.
@@johnmackey3937 I think electric breaks are an addable option for a price.
I want a fiberglass camper so bad but I'm going to retire in a couple years and hate to go in debt.
They're not cheap, that's for sure!
Can you shared the number of the spot that you stay in?
@@leslieGCA7X I share it in the video at some point. I think it was 4E.
They seem to have two objectives, both admirable: 1. DECONTENT FOR A LOWER PRICE. Mission accomplished. While those accustomed to well equipped travel trailers may have a hard time with the minimalist feature set, Those coming from tent camping or primitive tear drop campers and who already have gear will appreciate the simplicity. 2.DECONTENT FOR LOWER WEIGHT. Less of a success. Yes, they dropped 250 lbs off the base weight of the "Standard" 13, but that doesn't really unlock a significant number of additional vehicles that will be capable of towing this. If anything, the lack of available trailer brakes (not shown as standard or optional on the Lite) makes it worse for a marginal tow vehicle. There's no way I'd put one of these behind a vehicle with a 1500lb towing capacity. And the next step up is generally 2000lbs, which could handle a Standard 13 footer. There aren't a lot of vehicles with a maximum towing capacity in between those two figures.
@@garypatrick3001 very true.

Nice.
Hint. Never leave lose stuff lying around because it will eventually be lost.
My dogs used to do that too .
So we aren’t the only crazy ones! We travel with 3 corgis and a Scamp13. But our small Scamp is also equipped with a shower. 😅 A collapsible plastic pen allows the corgis some leash less freedom when outside the Scamp.
We plan to have a pen next trip with the dogs. 🤞🏻
We sold our Scamp last year but the buyer scammed us out of $2,500.00. My husband left the money in his car while one of the buyers used our bathroom. Yep, they took the money. It was a 2014 and we sold it for $13,000. But, they stole that $2,500! It was used four times. It came with a TV and lots of extras we added. Gŕŕrrrrrr

This is amazing. I live in Atlantic Canada. Just last week my friend sent me this exact same listing from Marketplace, but, it was only $1,800.00. So, I messaged them right away and it was word for word what you showed. I finally got an address out of them and did a google earth search and sure enough, it was a vacant lot!!! Just broke ours on a 19’ Scamp. Thanks for the tip!
Glad I could help!
Thank you for the tour, this is interesting ❤
Our pleasure! We love Scamps and thought this was exciting news.
Welcome to the world if someone has not tried to scam you in the last week you missed that they where scamming you.
Sadly true.
I report dozens a day to facebook. Another way to see if they are scammers is to click on their profile. Many post the same ad multiple times or have multiple low priced items.
Yeah, my video before this one looks at the profiles of a couple scammers and shows how many times they list it and often in different cities.
This is a great trailer for those that don’t want to give up the simple and primitive camping experience, but would like a little better shelter from the elements when it rains, snows, etc. It gives you the ability to easily set up and breakdown as well. Price is excellent and you don’t need a special vehicle to tow it. A big thumbs up to Scamp, giving their customers one more type of trailer to choose from.
That’s what we thought!
100%. I see water systems and permanently installed appliances as probable future failure points that eat up valuable storage space in a small camper. We want a comfortable place to sleep, a secure place to stow some gear, and a place to play cards when it rains. Otherwise, we're doing most things outside including cooking. The more basic the camper, the longer it's likely to last. I can see these retaining a greater percentage of their original value than a Standard or Deluxe.
@@garypatrick3001 that’s a reasonable assumption.
I've been there for military training. Extreme heat, one inch long thorns, and tarantulas racing all over the place, but beautiful in its own way.
We were only able to see a small portion of it due to an Air Force jet crashing in the park. Pilot ejected and was fine but the jet left a huge mess.
@@scampwanderlust that's its own adventure.
I wonder if some family knows that their pic is being used for the scam?
Hard to say. There are so many of these types of scams, I doubt they all would know. Since I reported it, this one is gone at least.
Yep a huge red flag when a seller demands a deposit. Sadly a lot of people fall for it.
Creating a sense of urgency is an old and successful tactic.
Sadly some friends fell for the one with the flower decals. When they were telling us about it, I about fell over and at that time, they thought they were buying it. 🙄
That sucks. I hate scammers.
