Super, thx!!!
You're welcome. I hope you enjoy the game.
Great vid 👍
Thanks!
Was a good demonstration, like you I also have an unplayed unpunched copy I've owned over 7 years, so now just need to find a couple other players. Thanks.
I still haven't been able to get my friends to play it. I think it would be fun, but I guess because it is old they don't want to play.
The Force is strong with any game which survives a tornado! It's scuffed up and beaten up on the outside, but those cards look crisp! Awesome job at getting this to the table, Lance!😊
Hi Chris. I did lose a few games in that tornado, but surprisingly most survived, even if they had a bit of box damage like this card game. I guess the Force was strong with most of my games...haha. That was 10 long years ago though.
Thanks. Teaching this tomorrow. So tempted to house rule starting each player with a free $5k. Martin Wallace games tend to be super tight economy.
If you think that would make the game more enjoyable for everyone, then I'd say you should do it.
Yes, maybe you are right. Still, they did fight the Orphans and did not ever fight the Hi Hats. Do you have this game? If so, do you like it?
2:01 - you could have moved 2 legions with the strategy action but only moved one - what was behind that?
and than again at 2:05
And I think you cant leave a leader alon in 2:16
@@Buraak_87 Hi, you are correct in everything you pointed out. It looks like those are just mistakes I made while trying to hold the camera, talk and play the game for both sides at the same time. 😱Hopefully, you found the video somewhat helpful otherwise. Thanks for watching!
@@lancesboardgamestuff I was just making sure I did not miss anything. While long you really went through everything very comprehensibly, great job!
Bro, the effort and pain you went through to make this saved me so much misery. Everything I looked for only came up 2nd edition. Thanks for doing our Lord Cthulhu's work. You're absolute godsend.
I’m glad I could help.
What would happen if, after drawing the psycho attack, every player has only one bean left, and none of them gets a “1” on the dice? Last player to roll the dice instantly wins? Or would they have to roll the dice and if they don’t get “1” they die too and nobody wins?
haha...that's a tough one. It does say the last person to have one or more beans alive is the winner. So, I'd go with your first option, the last player to roll the dice would win instantly because they would have the last bean alive before they rolled.
wow thought it was lord of the rings lcg in starwars but but seems like mageknight/warhammerquest/othe other lord of the rings game journies card game in story mode... looks cool
Yes, I guess it might have a bit of all those games. Not as complex or long as Mage Knight. I've only played the first two missions so far, but I've enjoyed it.
The FORCE is strong with you, Lance! I love The Mandalorian , and will have to watch this entire video when I have more time. I hope it's as fun as Outer Rim!
Watching the entire video. This is the way!
I was completely confused by the (German) rule book, but your video explained everything in great detail and does not leave anything unanswered. Well, maybe one tiny exception. You didn't mention the "toughness"
I'm glad you found the video helpful. I hope you enjoy the game!
muchas gracias!
De nada
This is the best walkthrough / guide on UA-cam. Cleared up so much
Thanks, I'm glad it was helpful!
great video and lesson - I really appreciate the slow and methodic approach you provide
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
U make an error. when you search, u roll the terror dice in the case u rolled 2 same symbols, no because you have 3 players, ok?
How did you figure this all out? The rulebook could very well be in chinese as most of the time I don't have a clue what they are trying to explain🙈😅 Glad you managed to figure it out, after watching this I think I am ready to dive right in. Looks like a game I am going to enjoy.
Yes, it is not the best rule book for sure. I'm glad I could help, and I hope you have fun playing the game!
I just picked up this game yesterday…really liking it!
Oh good. Glad to hear it.
Excellent video. Did the job, Thanks!!!
Thanks! Have fun playing the game.
This was a game within a game. The booster packs contained the main star trek ccg game cards along with additional tribbles cards that you could collect and play in this game. The tribbles also had game text that affected the outcomes in the main game. Also there were 3 100000 tribble cards that you could only get in the booster packs.
Oh, I was not aware of the connection to another Star Trek CCG.
Where can I buy it!?😅🙏☺️
I would go to boardgamegeek.com and search for this game. Then click on the "buy a copy" button and you will be presented with various persons or companies that have this game for sale.
@@lancesboardgamestuff thanks for the tip!😀👍
@@fredrikoregard832 You're welcome!
I have this game
My dude this is a fantastic tutorial of setup and gameplay. Great work. I’ve watched a number of setup and tutorial videos for this game and even the ones that are well done are hard to follow and/or intimidating to me personally. This is super good, thank you, and keep up the great work.
I'm glad you found it helpful!
Thank you 🙂
You're welcome.
Good video man it really help me
I'm glad it was helpful!
I used to play with game a lot in school
Good to see the best game ever (in my opinion) still getting new videos released for it
Thanks. It is a good game.
Thank you
You are welcome.
Awesome video, super helpful . Thank you it really helped me clear some things up.
You are welcome. I'm glad the video helped. Enjoy the game!
Thanks lance for the vid 👍 me too I think it's harder for the free people....like in war of the ring. In both game and battle of five armies I've never played the shadow side, I always felt it was easier for the shadow to win and I hate when it's easy.... I prefer loosing because it's difficult rather than winning because it's easy... maybe my ego...or honor... I don't know 😁 Thanks again.... what's your next game you want to cover?
I don't mind playing either side in War of the Ring. I do think I enjoy playing the free peoples a bit more though. I'm not sure what game my next video will be on. It will be a couple of weeks though. I've got my friend coming from out of town at the end of next week for some golf and boardgames. We are going to play Horus Heresy, War of the Ring and Dune War for Arrakis. It will be his first time to play Dune.
I have a question. What is the blue dice with the eye on (found in the major unit's card i think)?
Most units have a default sight range of 2. That blue dice with the eye is showing he has an upgrade available to increase his sight range by 1.
@@lancesboardgamestuff Also can two or more units be at the same hec at the same time?
@@nicolasgeorgiou9172 Using the rules I had at the time of making this video, the answer is no. You can move through but can't end your movement in the same hex as another unit. With the latest version of the rules, you can "Assault" on enemy unit by moving into the same hex as that unit.
@@lancesboardgamestuff So when using assault you pretty much move to the hex where the enemy was once you destroy the unit but without using cp?
@@nicolasgeorgiou9172 No, you move into the same hex as the enemy unit using your normal movement. If you end your movement in that hex than you are assaulting it. The units involved in an assault do not benefit from cover. Here is a link to what I believe is the newest rules if you would like further details: drive.google.com/file/d/1E24X-R2ZA-pXfifUC3CDZh19A-22DIwR/view
That extra example round was very much needed :-) Thanks for the video.
You are welcome. I'm glad the video helped.
This one is epic too, gets more often on the table then War of the Ring and Dune is my fav sci-fi movie(the old 1984 one) and like I said WOTR is my fav game so Dune: War for Arrakis has quickly become my most played game this year and surely for months and years to come. Thanks for the vid man ++
I'm supposed to play this one the same weekend I play WOTR in June. Really looking forward to a great gaming weekend in mid-June.
Thanks for the vid, war of the ring is my fav game so this one and battle of five armies are really close behind. Eager to see part 2, continue the good work 👍😁
War of the Ring is my favorite as well. I don't get to play it very often. But I believe I'll get an opportunity next month, so I'm looking forward to that.
@@lancesboardgamestuff are you going to play it with an expansion, 2 or all of them?
@@BoardGameStudio21 I'm thinking about playing with Warriors of Middle Earth. I've had it for quite some time but never tried it. I have played with Lords of Middle Earth several times.
@@lancesboardgamestuff Awsome, I think warriors is the best but I haven't tried kings yet. All the expansion together must be epic 😁 Have a nice game 👍
@@BoardGameStudio21 I missed out on Kings. Hopefully I can pick it up in the future.
at 2:01:00 you move a legion with a leader, while you only take a legion action, is that allowed?
Yes, with a strategy action you can move a legion whether or not it contains a leader. However, with a leadership action you can only move a legion if it contains a leader.
Your way of doing videos is calming and informative. Hiwever you could get a two-fer. 1 video giving a instructional video and another video doing a playthrough. Might as well since you have the game out already. Excellent videos sir.
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoy the videos. I'll keep your idea in mind of doing a full playthrough video in the future. I'm not sure I could do that on the longer games, but maybe some of the shorter ones.
Just found this game at a used game store and this was a good detailed explanation of all the actions. Should make for an easy teach and first play.
Great, I hope you have fun playing the game!
So do you think this is worth keeping or do you think there is a game which has trumped it. Do you feel the Dungeon dive is half baked? Do other expansions make the game play differently?
It is worth keeping for me. The deck building is obviously the main mechanic in the game, the dungeon dive is secondary but still enjoyable. I haven't played any of the expansions so I can't speak to that. If you watched the example turns and thought it looked fun or interesting, then I can recommend it. I think they have a kickstarted going on currently.
@lancesboardgamestuff there are so many expansions I was wondering if it's more of the same or they play very differently. I have quite a few of their expansions but have played none. I was hoping you had to get your take on it. Thanks for your reply.
Thanks for the review and explain the game greetings from mexico
Hola! You are welcome for the video. Have fun playing the game!
I like art, love westerns, and this game looks pretty fun! It seems like you need three or more players for balance. Thanks for another unique how to play of an older game!
Hi Chris. It has some special rules for a 2-player game. I probably should have mentioned that. 😀
I have a question about the faction tokens, the shield and star, what happens when they engage you?
The scenario sheet shows the enemy represented by each faction. So, if you have to fight one you refer to the enemy listed for that faction on the scenario sheet.
I thought when you have any encounter your movement automatically stops?
It's been a while since I played, but yes, I believe that is correct. Can you point me to the timestamp in the video where you believe I made a mistake. Thanks.
Thanks dude, this is the only explanation of the game that I actually understood. And the gameplay example at the end was helpful too.
Thank you so much! That was my first Super Thanks. I’m glad you found the video helpful!
This game has alot going on! You've done a fine job of teaching how to play! Also, you and your gaming group have inspired my friend and I to have a board game marathon where we play as many games as we can fit in for a day. 😊
Yes, this game appears to have a lot going on, but once you start playing it's not too bad. It can just be very luck based with all the dice rolling. I'm glad my gaming group and I were inspirational to you! I hope you have a fun filled gaming marathon. I really enjoy it when my friends and I can get together for a full day or two of gaming. If only it could be more often!
I always wanted to love this game. But the constant frustration is sometimes unbearable
Yes, I agree. It can really be frustrating sometimes. 😃
….also what happens to crew cards etc attached to ships if the ship is destroyed?
If a ship is destroyed, all cargo and crew cards assigned to the ship are discarded into the appropriate discard piles.
Nice vid. Bit confused with movement through spaces. So if the tile has a size value of 5 does it cost 1 movement to “ discover’ and move into the tile, then a cost of another 5 movement for its size to move through the space, then another 1 movement to discover another space?
It costs just 1 movement point to move to an adjacent location. If you are going to move across the location, then it costs its size. Not it's size plus 1. But then it will cost 1 movement point to move into the location adjacent to the one you crossed. So, if you move into an adjacent location that is size 5 it just costs 1 movement if you are going to stay there. If you are going to cross that location and move into a location on the other side, then it costs 5 to move across and 1 to enter the new location, for a total of 6. Does that make sense?
Just for reassurance, you are pronouncing everything correctly :P No need to be self conscious about it :)
haha...ok, thanks. I just know some people can be real sticklers about something they are a big fan of.
Your explanation is better than other people and i hope you can explan for Monster Hunter World The Boardgame Ancient Forest. I have 1 question...can a player win the game without building a wonder?
Yes, in fact the wonder may not even get built by anybody. Or it may not have very many victory point cubes on it, so it won't be worth much if it is built.
Amazing teach :) One little thing - on the "The spice must flow" board - doesn´t a ban only become activated on the lowest tier, and on the other tiers you lose a die instead?
No, any marker that is at the bottom causes a ban for that marker to activate. If any markers are not at the bottom but 1 or more moved down, then from among those that moved down you must choose 1 to activate a ban on, even if it isn't at the bottom. See Imperium Bans on page 21 of the rulebook. I hope that makes sense.
@@lancesboardgamestuff - Thanks, don´t know how I ended up with my version.
@@tcp1623 It is a bit confusing. And of course, you do lose dice in Phase 1 as you mentioned. The active row is the row with the lowest Imperium marker and the Harkonnen player has to place a die on the active row and each row above it.
