Challengers (2024) has gotten a lot of hype because of Zendaya - now it's out in cinemas I have a lot of thoughts - for one, Challengers is not a steamy romance you probably think it is, and also it's not actually about tennis....not really. Civil War (2024) is the newest film from auteur production studio A24, and it has been cause of a lot of debate due to it's apolitical approach to the film's storyline. I think the lack of politics is what makes Civil War good...terrifyingly good, with an underlying tone of what I call "philosophical horror" /chapters. 1. premise and initial thoughts 2. hidden artistry 3. the flaws of the film ...

  • @songbirds1361

    the criticism is so incredibly valid do not get me wrong but i think a lot of people comparing this to the hunger games are missing a super important part of the books. in book 2, haymitch says “you just remember who the real enemy is”. the idolization of celebrities is absolutely a conversation that needs to be had. but remember that it wasn’t Effie Trinket, or Cinna, or Katniss’ prep team, or any of the Capitol audience members that were the villains. it was Snow and it was Coin. it was the government

    Silence on Israel's genocide on Palestine was big factor too

  • @machiafeline
    @machiafeline 20 годин тому

    Blockout2024 did not happen simply because people hate celebrities. But it was a movement to block celebrities who chose silence over the genocide happening to Palestinians. The met gala happened when Rafah was being bombed through and through. Thats where its tone deaf too. You've got massive platform and a lot of money but actively choosing silence while you can use the platform you have or donate. Sure, its true people can do whatever they want with their money or platform. But remember this is hundred thousands of lives being killed to actively eradicate them out of existence and out of their homeland. If that doesn't make you at least want to speak up for them, I don't know what else will.

    Wait I thought that the story conveys a message about how art, literature, science and historical records are one of the first casualties of war. Because in the story the couple is not just aristocrats but they a collector of arts and books about philosophy, science and other literary works and that in the end it's not the aristocrats that are destroy but the two statue that have a resemblance to the couple.

    this is like literally the easiest theme to do like beautiful things and they just failed like that they just in general celebrities don't know what they're doing and designers just don't give a fuck anymore. do we really need like the gilded age part 11 at the met gala? no we needed something fun and this was fun and some people did it actually very well but most people did not

    I actually think that people miss the mark with hating creative extravagance over plain ones. They spend the same amount of money on a plain blue designer dress for a red carpet all the time. This time its raising money for a museum and it is actually interesting and creative. Why do people think thats worse?

    Its all alittle to on the nose i feel like This met galla being the thing to finally set people of while also having this theme This was the breaking point that made people realise that if we want recognition we have to work for it Like the block out movement is an exsample of something that is impactfull while also being something anyone can do I FINALLY SEE POWERS IN NUMBERS AND CELEBS RESPONDING AND BIG BRANDS ARE SCRAMBLING And that painting of bloddy red prince charles It caused more mass and more open discussion on the royal family and how the painting COULD represented all these things from the blood of colonialism on their hands to the way the family has been using its power This year is actually starting to feel like the beings of eat the rich and the rich are aware

  • @LizeronWardragon
    @LizeronWardragon 4 дні тому

    It's also because this year's met gala was also serving a purpose of turning the Western media away from the Gaza genocide and the reason people started boycotting is not because of the story, it's because the are fed up with how celebrities abuse the power that we, as people, ultimately give them. A singer with an audience of a full concert is a legend, a singer with an audience of 0 is delussional.

    people in these comments have to get there shit together and realize yeah it is the celebs money so what does it say about them that they arent even trying to save the people in Palastine and many other contries in need of LOTS of help. They could save millons instead most of these celebs arent even saying anything about it. if they arent actively trying to help there part of the problem. People are dying, kids are dying, some dont even have chance to be born. did you know they have fucking concentration camps now? history really does repeat itself except this time US is funding those bombs. they are indirectly supporting US and Isreal by not supporting Palastine

  • @mariapaz6379
    @mariapaz6379 4 дні тому

    It was very tone deaf. The exhibit was "sleeping beauties, reawakening fashion" and the theme "the garden of time" based on the book. The obvious reference that they wanted, was the effort made to save and preserve art, even when the end is imminent. But i cannot imagine how no one thought that with two massive wars going on, there wouldn't be a connection between the theme and the reality. With the rich enjoying a luxurious event, while people outside are screaming for justice.

      @-AsSeenOnTV 4 дні тому

      so being against littaral Genocide is a trend now?? people are mad because these are the people who can make a real difference they can save millions of people but they choose not to, as fas are we know they support the genocide most of these people are completely silent and even if they made a couple statements unless there activly trying to make a difference there part of the problem, they are letting these people die

  • @radiorebel8223
    @radiorebel8223 4 дні тому

    I don’t understand this, they make their livings off of being famous, literally off of showing off. How can anyone expect them not to show off? What do you expect them to do, do one job and then fade off into the background after? This is so silly.

    • @-AsSeenOnTV
      @-AsSeenOnTV 4 дні тому

      people are boycotting and hating on celebrities because they refuse to help or even speak on palastine, with all that money they could be saving millions of people, way more then that are dying daily, unless there actively supporting palastine and publicly speaking out they are showing that they belive what isreal and the US is okay. it doesnt matter if they do belive that or not unless they actually do anything thats what it looks like

    The version of this film you have described is the version I wish I could have watched. Bella starting out as a blank slate, preoccupying herself with discovering how the world works without being pigeon holed by societal expectations and reckoning with the nature of the human condition & its relationship to cruelty. A film where sexual exploration is a footnote mainly meant to support the arch of the main character . Unfortunately, that is not the film I saw. I saw a bad porno aimed at the worst type of predators and the kids they're grooming. Talking about this film and not even mentioning that for the majority of the film Bella Baxter is an infant- child who is sexually abused by most of the people that interact with her, feels genuinely dangerous. The unconscionable amount of CSA survivors have had horrific experiences watching this film because people neglected to mention the main premise of an infant in a woman's body having sex a whole bunch. Your review is one of the best I've seen about everything but the normalisation of and downplaying of child abuse in this film. I appreciate the level of intellectual consideration that you put into examining the rest of the film, enough so that MAYBE in the far future I may try and rewatch the film. But it feels genuinely shocking to completely skip over the fact that Bella is a child. In case anyone needs a reminder: children cannot consent. The film consistently reinforces the fact that Bella is an infant-child before punching us with sexual scenes that have no consequences, often followed by reassurance from Bella that she enjoyed the assaults. For this alone the film is vile. I cannot enjoy anything else about it that I may have initially like about the film. It is all soiled by being part of a nightmarish p---philic fantasy.
