3.75m wing maiden with poor aileron control
Переглядів 1,2 тис.3 роки тому
3.75m scratch built wing. One of three maiden flights, all ending in a crash due to poor aileron control. Second attempt was posted by my friend: ua-cam.com/video/r19ixsKHgPk/v-deo.html . I had asymmetric ailerons and doubled the aileron control surfaces. The result was much worse. The root cause is the wings twisting when using ailerons. They need to be stiffer. To be continued in future video...

“Weee”
Very useful and inspiring video. Thx. Left an abo!
I've been flying gliders for 40 years and know how to build. I built an Art Hobby model 2 years ago. The quality of materials was good and the instructions clear. One thing that concerned me was they called for the wings to be glued together with NO wing rod, no further strength member other than a glue joint. Against my better judgement, I followed the manufacturers instructions. I epoxied and taped the wings as was called for. On the maiden flight the plane flew beautifully. That was the case until, in a shallow low-speed dive, the main wings folded up like a cheap suitcase. The plane was a total loss as a result. I contacted the manufacturer right away, I explained the event. I pointed out that had a wing rod been installed, the collapse of the wing would not have happened. Rather than consider my viewpoint, the manufacturer immediately replied that a wing rod (or any other further support), was unnecessary. He was TOTALLY unphased, unmoved, and unsympathetic. He offered no compromise at all. I felt at the very least he could offer a discount on a replacement kit. He did nothing. He has his view, I have mine. All I know for sure is the plane blew apart mid-flight. I will never again purchase anything from Art Hobby. The designs look nice, but the total lack of customer care and support warrants no further business from me.
Wowzers, what a story.
Hi Johan. What size battery do you use for the Odyssey.
When I glass a center section I use 3 layers or 2oz small and getting larger. It sand out better. Thanks for the vids
I noticed you use the expanding Gorilla glue to join the wing halves. You didn't mention that you add any moisture to the glue joint before assembly. Could you tell me if you use any moisture? Thanks, David
I don't remember, but my guess is I did not. But moisture is a good idea, indeed!
Thank you so much Johan for this wonderful video. Because of you and this video I finally have the guts to go ahead and make a hot wire cut Wisel. I made one using flat EPS 1" thick and the RM1 wing shape. It has not been a good experience. I learned from you that the wingroot already includes the ailerons. I never got that from working my way through the Wisel thread. You have given me a great gift. Thank you.
Beautiful plane!
Can u pls give me pdf plan?
Hi. What did you use to apply the fiberglass tape to the centre wing joint? You mention Arthobby sells a suitable resin but what was is it you used? Hoping to build an Arthobby glider soon.
www.amcsupplies.com.au/product/west-105-epoxy-resin and www.amcsupplies.com.au/product/west-206-slow-hardener
Would the resin that i have with epoxy do the same thing? I have a bottle of hardner and bottle of resin that when mixed makes epoxy. So if i just use the resin maybe that would do for the wing joint fiberglass cloth
@@heron9524 I don't know. But I wouldn't risk it; this join is critical...
@@johanbergkvist8834 thanks. One final question. When you were fiberglassing the centre joint. You showed it been done on the top part of the wing. Does the underneath of the wing have to be fiberglassed at the centre joint aswell? As in the centre joint that will be sitting on the canopy? Thanks
@@heron9524 Yes, top and bottom both need fibreglassing.
Hi Johan. Are the blocks and holes already made for the carbon wing joiners in the kit or do you have to glue and drill out the holes.
It's been a while... I don't remember working on them and I don't show it in the video, so I am pretty sure they were installed and drilled by ArtHobby.
What Foam do you use?
See description.
Sir hi. im a quite newbie here, i made the plane like urs but mine didnt fly well...dont know why. Can u please give me specs and CG OF UR PLANE. THANK YOU
do u have a plan for this plane
No.
Very nice vid. I wonder if the ailerons linkage was hidden (you drilled into wing).
Kindly up load drawing
Excellent, very helpful! The paper instruction manual tells you nothing about how to set it up!
Bei der Freimachung der Servoschächte,würde ich grundsätzlich alle 4 Eckpunkte mit 4mm bohren.Damit verhindert man das beim raußtrennen das Balsa weiterreißt.
The weight limit is under 250g. www.casa.gov.au/knowyourdrone/drone-rules
Awesome glider and flights!
I bought my first DF 95 last week and with the help of a friend completed the assembly of it yesterday afternoon. I have yet to do a maiden sail but that will be tomorrow at our club sailing day. Very impressed with the ease of assembly and the instruction manual was very easy to follow. Very impressed. A great addition to my fleet.
Since making this video I got an IOM and a Marblehead and enjoy them both. But the DF95 is still superfun to sail and race!
…built and crashed…wonderful slim speedy glider on the heavy side…aerobatic and whizzling bypasses…sturdy and woody…perfect for choppy windy days…packs down to 1.50 meters…totally smacked my ones but successfully rebuilt…fully recommended alternative to overprized fragile full composite competition gliders…also check out the art-hobby vortex as an odyssey alternative or double up…or art-hobby sky ec 1-7m as a full wing smaller one…i built lots of these art-hobby wooden winged glider and love them…

Great video, are you able to turn off beeping when the Flysky is idle and not being used apart from turning the unit off.
Not that I am aware. It would be lovely to be able to!
Question on this.. do I have to use the balance lead or can it be wired into the main lead
Judging by the way he has it hooked up to the balance lead you should be all good to connect it to the main leads! Sounds like a cool project!
i have soldered it to the plug on the car, that plugs into the battery. it works!
u can
@@nicomelgaresHey! Any chance you could provide a short guide or picture of the mod? I want to solder it directly to the battery connector in the car so I don't have to constantly unplug and plug the lead back in.
Ok, these look fun to build! Is it foam core laminated in plywood?
Yes.
Actually it's a poplar veneer covered, not a plywood :)
@@MarekSzulen I stand corrected. :) Cheers!
@@johanbergkvist8834 I'm waiting for delivery of Odyssey from Art Hobby. That's going to be fun soon :)
Thanks for the video mate! What is the range on this setup please? Considering the receiver antenna placement at sea level, We would lose a lot of signal dissipating into the water on 2.4gHZ. With the Flysky receivers, The different models cater for different applications. Which Flysky receiver would be best for across water? I would like to have no anxiety about losing range when say heading to a mark that is 250m away etc. I'm not looking for a mile by any means, But what are they typically getting out to without stressing about signal loss? Thanks to the Uploader and anyone who can help answer this. - from Australia 🙂
With the iA6B receiver antennas just under the deck in a boat with no carbon in the hull, I start seeing a degradation to the point where I get nervous at about 100m. I don't think a different receiver will improve matters much unless you use something like Express-LRS, TBS Crossfire or some other super long range protocol. That said, if you can get the antennas just a few inches above the deck and/or if the radio is located high (handful of meters above sealevel) things improve a lot.
@@johanbergkvist8834 Thanks for getting back to me mate... Yes I was thinking of buying a couple of those antenna straws with caps and drilling a small hole in the deck to stand it upright externally out of the hull.. How do you reckon that would go Johan?
Hi Great video ,can you help me,I have a flysky with 10 Chanels.Using 3 on my Boat .l want to add some nav lights. How can i conect This to the radio or reciver. Many Thanks
Do I have to print the root cord template in A3 to get the correct size? If not do I enlarge the size of the template?
I printed the templates and adjusted the print scale to get the correct size. That took a few attempts to get right. The app (MS Paint, I think) correctly deduced that it would have to be printed over several A4 sheets. Then I taped the A4 sheets together to get the complete template.
@@johanbergkvist8834 Thanks for the help Johan.
@@johanbergkvist8834 Also, Is it the same process for the wisel mega? Or do I enlarge those templates?
@@aidanmacdonald3430 Same process. Just lots more A4 sheets to tape together! :)
@@johanbergkvist8834 cheers
Nice video - thanks for sharing. I wonder if the sluggish aileron response is due to super light (flexy) wing twisting slightly the opposite way to the ailerons? Like a trim tab on a full size plane?
Yes, could be.
Very nice video!
Thank you!
добрый день! скажите какая корневая и концевая хорда размеры?? в начале форума одни размеры , в этом видео другие
350mm and 185mm. Those dimensions are what the template I used gave me.
Only two coats of sealer on the wing, and that's it?
Yes.
Bardzo fajnie pokazane jak się sklada model arthobby. Dziękuję

Hello sir where i can find the detail plan for gliders like this
Oh wow, that’s a big Weasel!
i thinking of building something like this, i think yours needs a stabilizer fin tho
Nice!
Hello, can you tell me why you stick the servos of ailerons and flaps? in case of a problem, how do you do it?
Do you mean why I glue them in?
@@johanbergkvist8834 Yessss
@@passiondrone25 Because it's easy and that's what the manual said. :) If I ever have to take one out it would get messy depending on the what glue I used.
@@johanbergkvist8834 Yes, it wouldn't be easy to get them out...
Could you plz provide the build details of this lovely slow flyer
What a fun video, and amazing light wind sloping. Discovered your channel via a comment on an older Andrew Newton video. The wise man comment. LOL. (like a punchline to an good inside joke)
That's cool. Cool piece of land also. I want to visit Australia.
Very nice
Funny how it's easier to pull elevator evenly in flight than on the ground.
I am about to put together my Hookl Uglider PNP version. Want to follow the mods that so many others recommend. But with yours, you have needed to throw so much weight to the rear. Is that all only because of the heavier motor and spinner? I will use the stock motor and spinner, at least to start with.
Correct, it's solely because of the weight of the motor and spinner.
Sehr sauber sehr Professionell hat mir sehr gefallen
The tail boom pushrod install was very clever.
Nice build & flies very well..!
