Victor & Joan

In August 2024 we searched Santiago's Cemetario General for the grave of Victor and Joan Jara. After nearly two hours we were directed by a friendly local person to the sector 29, where so many of the 'disappeared and executed' during Pinochet's fascist coup in 1973 are being disinterred to try to identify them. Victor believed in the power of a song. I had to write something in his honour

Correcting the studio error which originally broadcast a news flash instead of the opening part of 'Vine' (honourably put right by Marc Riley at the start of the following night's programme)

TIM SMITH'S SPRATLEYS (RATS) June 17, 2024 BBC 6Music Radio Session, Maida Vale Marc Riley SETLIST: [intro] Vine Don't You Ail, Flash the Sea to Steam] [interview] A bodge-up by BBC (it happens and Marc Riley was gutted by it) meant start of Vine was actually missing as another BBC station broadcast over it. If it's put right in later re-broadcasts I'll re-edit this...original upload by Silence95

CARDIACS June 17, 2024 BBC 6Music Radio Session, Maida Vale Marc Riley SETLIST: 0'00 [interview] 5'39: The Duck and Roger the Horse 9'50: Big Ship 15'21: [outro]
If they're playing next year, I'm going! Don't care where it is!
I only discovered Cardiacs this year (shockingly) and I am loving exploring the catalogue and this is lovely with Jim taking the front seat. I have loved music for 50 odd years and Cardiacs were/are just something special.
So wonderful to see Cardiacs family together - I still miss Tim. What fantastic music they all made. THE best band ever. Huge part of my life
I went too see Beethoven's 5th recently but it wasn't real because Beethoven wasn't there.
Fuck! The Duck and Roger the Horse is amaaaazing! I’ve never heard that one live and had put that down to the notion that it was nae that do-able live… but I was wrong, wrong, wrong. Youse are all triffic! Thank you for your making this music sing bright and beautiful 🎉
'Big Ship' always sounds good; a spectacular track.
The winners shop for things they do not need. The losers beg for things they can’t afford. The faithless go to churches And the faithful fled abroad. The traffic lights in Santiago Order us to run - The faceless traffic itches To explode on everyone. 50 years ticked along and Victor has his wife: Their grave has names carved lightly By the edges of the knife. And cemeterio 29 coughs up its bones at last, For DNA decisions And a reckoning with the past. Will the man who daubed on Victor’s grave Enjoy his lingering days? When will those songs arise again And lead us from the maze? It doesn’t need a statue: It just requires a heart. It only takes a humane being To tear this shit apart. It only takes a human being to start. It only needs one human with a heart.
Very wonderful and quite laudatory
thank you :)
I cannot wait to hear LSD. Brilliant as always, Jim and Co. Miss you too, Tim.
The transition of Cardiacs from Tim to Jim seems seamless.
Long live the Cardiacs!
Lovely
BRILLIANT. Love to you all. XX
Fabulous stuff
We grin like alligators
Wow this was so great, thank you so much for uploading this!!!! I was feeling not very good and coming across this put a tear in my eye and a huge smile on my face. I never thought they would perform again. BEST BAND EVAARRRR
It's easy to say it's not Cardiacs without Tim, but his fingerprints are still all over the music even if he's not there to perform it. Even if they decided to write entirely new songs, his influence on the lot of them would be irresistible. I'm by no means a spiritual person but hearing them perform like this reminds me that music comes alive in the imagination of the people listening to it, and as long as there are people listening and performing this music, there'll always be a bit of Tim that lives on, and so Cardiacs deserve a new lease on life too.
Tim above all was a composer and as such left behind a body of work that stretches so much further than being a Cardiac. If you ever get to see Bic, Jon, Jim on stage doing the tunes, you get the picture is an ode to Tim so he feels very much present. Of cause without the prattling on for which i do miss him .
You only have to see them live in 2024 to realise that it's definitely 100% Cardiacs, and a beautiful, beautiful thing.
It's like a dream
Oh the pain of being a stateside fan and not getting to see any of these shows in October.
Well, I jumped and managed to get a Glasgow ticket. So excited.
@@jasonshort1437 Nice one. See you there!
All of the noise takes me to the outside where there's all Creations joining in celebrating happiness and joy All around the world, on land and in the sea (AND IN THE SEA)
Mr Flower, he's bent on..... power <3
"Make me nice and neat, make me look a treat... hello 🙂"
Well, that's only bloomin' marvellous! Also, is that the most words I have ever heard Jim speak?
You beat me to my comment. I'm sure this must be a recorded utterances PB for Him. Who knew he talked?
Jim parades a toy
He sounds nothing like how I expected him to sound like
Such a talent! Cardiacs were such a strong band live.
To hear those words broadcast live again after all this time: "Cardiacs live in session". Shivers!
My kind of tranquility.
Glorious
Thanks for doing this (so quickly)!
