Such power.
I was at this show.......
liar
Jealous! Of you haven’t already, check out our video interview looking back at this concert with Jason Bittner (Shadows Fall).
@ all lies. you don't have to lie to make friends, bud.
A shame...Dave's wearing a swaztika...
Look a little closer at the shirt buddy….. it’s a swastika with a slash going through it. Meaning anti fascist.
The great one
Who cares? Nobody. 🤘🃏🎸🥃🍺🤤🙉🛸
After seeing this show in high school I bought the bootleg audio from a guy. Still have those tapes. Funny to hear it here after so long. 🤘🏻
I saw this tour, Milwaukee January 1991. Testament opened.
Shred.
NICE! Never heard this live

Im from Troy
Jason "New Kid" , they were ruthless against Jason. Glad he left them.
I think the band has subsequently acknowledged how unfair they were towards him. His inclusion in the Rock Hall induction was a pretty big moment in a decades-long reconciliation, along with the Black Album retrospective stuff.
never been a fan of his solos on songs but unaccompanied he has some really interesting ideas
THe tone, the sound is just perfect
Agree. Unreal they were able to replicate the album tones so closely. If you haven't already, check out our interview with Jason Bittner looking back at this show (he was there as a 19-year old college student before breaking out as a professional drummer years later). Video link is in our profile.
Having gone to school there, I got to see alot of these shows you discussed. I uniquely remember being able to get tix for Bon Jovi / Cinderella for $1 (I think) as a student. We waited out all night in a car (because they wouldn't let us line up). After 5am, someone made a break for a box office, and so everyone immediately hopped out of their cars in a frenzy and started the line. I definitely remember the Maiden/Malmsteen show in 87. Then there was all the cool shows up at the Glenns Falls Civic Center (DLR eat em and smile tour; Def Leppard/Tesla Hysteria tour, etc.) Ah..memories.
i would give anything to go back and be at this show.
If you haven't yet, check our profile for the interview with Jason Bittner from Shadows Fall who saw this Metallica show at the Field House as a 19-year old college student. He has some great stories and heavy metal memories. 🤘
I love that song , can’t believe we don’t have a modern version of this song..
I worked security at this show. They needed to hire lots of extra people for this tour so I was hired to work this show as I went to school there. I sat outside the "Production Office" for the entire show. Couldn't see anything but could hear the show. Before the show, Lars came walking into the office right next to me.
We have another upcoming episode with a former security staffer who worked the Field House shows, including Metallica, who takes us back to that night and era of concerts in Troy. If you haven't yet, check our current episode with Jason Bittner from Shadows Fall who saw Metallica at the Field House in 89 as a 19-year old college student. He has some great stories and heavy metal memories.

wake the fuck up lets go!!!!
Reminds me of that great guitarist Marc Shurr!
RPI used Hockey and football players for Security at this gig. I was there, got dragged out of the show at For Whom the Bell Tolls. Apparently I was moshing too hard. Needless to say there had to 150 to 200 people milling around outside of the venue because they had been kicked out. There was literally almost a riot outside they were trying to tip the News 6 van over. They were throwing things at the news. It was chaos. People were so pissed off. I did get interviewed at one point about my experience getting dragged out in a headlock.
@@sludgedisciple whoa. This sounds intense. Getting booted during the second song must have sucked!
I got total dejavo. I was the kid delivering papers at 5:00am too. As a drummer that's when I would listen to my new music on my killer walkman. Lol!! I didn't like metallica at first. My first one was anthrax. They had a singer that could sing. Lol!! I still remember hearing madhouse for the first time. The major rager metal head at school lance winter Recorded a metal tape for me. He put a little of everything on that tape but I remember asking him who's the band that sings that madhouse song? I was the weird one. I liked stuff like buddy miles... Blue cheer...Captian Beyond etc. He was Always trying to convert me through. I also saw metallica on that AJFA tour. My first thought was WOW not as tight as the record. But they were having so much fun. I remember james doing cheers with his red solo cup to the crowd several times.🍻🍻 They did breadfan that night. Because I was the weird kid that knew the Budgie version. Also saw the ozzy metallica show. We had just moved to new york and my mother took me. I remember my mother saying that opening band was really good. Lol!! She also took me to see anthrax in a small club. The ceiling fans got ripped down. Metal church opened. I'm still a drummer to this day and i've met Jason. Classy dude man!! We chatted gear for a while. Again he's a super cool guy. Hell of a drummer too. When you fill in for charlie from anthrax You know you're damn good!!! His stories brought me right back to the 80's. The record town bag... I remember those vividly. Lol!! Kids today will never know that Anticipation of having that new album in your bag. Never heard it waiting to get home so you can hear it. Then sitting there reading the album Cover front to back while you listen. 🍻🍻guys!!
@@nathanwalsh3028 thanks for sharing all this! Where did you see Anthrax? Tearing down the ceiling fans 😲 We are looking back at the ‘91 Slayer show at the Field House for a future episode… stay tuned!
@TroyStoryPod penny arcade Rochester NY.
I was there too! Awesome show with lady justice falling apart. 🤘
Incredible setlist, too. We’ve got several more interviews with people who caught the show in Troy that night, including an RPI student who was working security that night. He has some awesome behind-the-scenes stories.
Good deal. I’m a shorter guy so can usually sneak my way to the front on the floor. I was about 1-2 people back when Metallica started. Everyone rushed the stage so I literally put my arms in a V and jumped up and had the crowd carry me with my feet dangling.
My first concert with Queensryche and Suicidal Tendencies at the Frank Erwin center in Austin when I was 13. Very impressionable on my young life. Queens better than Metallica? You lost some credibility on that one.
For context, Jason said "I thought they were better than Metallica that specific night."
I saw in 89 sp saturday. Amazing concert. Metallica its awesome
I saw them the first time in ‘86 opening for Ozzy. It was the Master of Puppets tour and right before Cliff died. He died just a couple weeks later. James had a broken arm from a skateboard accident.
@@joeycernak4220 wow, what a special moment to see that lineup on that tour. Losing Cliff was a tragedy. Loved hearing Bittner tell his story about seeing the band on the same tour in upstate New York (and meeting Lars!). Hope you enjoyed the episode. 🤘
Bruce channeling his best Van Morrison during the "Sad Eyes" interlude. Magnificent.
@@TJB5 it was a top three Bruce concert for Joyce (our guest for the episode looking back at this show). After listening to the show and hearing from other fans, we can see why!
My mom loves Bruce, her&my aunt went by his house in NJ and a leaf from his tree blew into her car and she still has the leaf in her Bible my mom is 74😂I think she was in her 30"s when it happened❤
The best
@@Gennaro73 Just posted another preview on our page. Check it out!
He sucked, I like his music, but, he should have never performed.
A rock and roll lightweight and fraud.
This was a pleasure to listen to and as an adult that grew up in Troy and has newly returned very informative.
Thanks for listening, and welcome back!
“Framework for the Future” - Troy safer and cleaner, economic assistance and growth and financial soundness. The basic campaign message. Voters agreed.
Hit the nail on the head.
Mark was the unlikely leader of a great revolution in Troy’s financial soundness. I remain honored by the role I played with others in this important revolution. I think working to bring Steve Buckley Dan Hogarty John Headly and a big chunk of the non-GOP parents in the South Troy Pop Warner. It was an exhilarating effort that we squeaked by enough
