What to do in Melaka – The 4 Most Beautiful Temples [2024]
Melaka, one of the top tourist destinations in Asia. So, what to do in Melaka during your visit?
Well, there are many exciting things to do and see and many beautiful temples can be found withing the city.
Today we are taking you on a tour of the 4 we liked the most.
We start with the Aw Hai Thian Temple located at the edge of Chinatown. Aw Hai Thian is a Taoist temple and looking in from the street, it might not look like much but once you walk inside, you’ll see that it is richly decorated and beautifully maintained.
Next, we visit the San Duo Temple. San Duo is considered to be a very old Buddhist temple, the Temple itself is relatively small but it's well built. Bright colors can be seen all around with many small figurines and objects filling the space.
Third on the list is the Cheng Hoon Teng Temple. This is Melaka’s most famous temple and one that is recommended on every tourist website. Also known as the Temple of the Green Cloud, the Cheng Hoon Teng Temple was founded by Chinese officials in 1645 during the era of Dutch Malacca and it is considered the oldest temple in Malaysia.
Last and directly opposite to Cheng Hoon Teng is the Xiang Lin Si Temple. Compared to other temples in Melaka, Xiang Lin Si presents us with a rather spartan decoration, preferring simpler stone finishes to the more colorful wooden decorations that can be found everywhere else. Interestingly, this seemingly uncomplicated and straightforward style, that favors open spaces and the abundance of natural light, adds greatly to the sense of peace and tranquility we felt during our visit.
Overall, we had an amazing time exploring Melaka and 100% recommend a visit.

Me encanto el paseo por la cueva, es increíble, es difícil imaginar que en una urbe tan poblada como lo es Kuala Lumpur exista un lugar así. Es lindo por naturaleza y por todos los templos llenos de colores del arcoíris. La explicación con que acompañas el paseo es fluida, interesante y amena. Gracias por compartir tus experiencias.
