Disco Elysium | Story Explained
#discoelysium #storyexplained #discoelysiumstory
The Disco Elysium Story Explained video is HERE and it is LARGE. A game as deep as this one deserves nothing less. Even though this story explainer is the length of a feature-length film, there is still so much of Disco Elysium's lore and characters and world that I am yet to discuss. Do not fear, we will reach those dizzying heights in good time.
As for this video -- expect a complete breakdown of Disco Elysium's core storyline: a murder mystery, retrograde amnesia, lost loves, stick insects, and the end of the world. As well as some finer explaining of the politics, geography, and history of Disco Elysium. There might even be some jokes in there too.
Thank you to all those that joined me while I streamed this game. Honestly, I can't believe this video has been three months in the making. I need a lie down.
Enjoy!

    Best part about the nomi statue is it basically makes none of what you did happen at all. Other than your last run, since the statue quantum stores memories of a person so if you're connected to it you basically know everything you can Will and have done from when you first bonded to it till the end of time. So when the statue activated really your character was just flooded with a bunch of information telling them exactly what to do. I don't get how scaling it down to a child's diorama of a solar system gets rid of the existential crisis if anything that part of the game freaked me out more than anything, especially when you're on the smaller planets in the horizon curves so fast that you can jump off the planet

    If the universe is truly infinitely expanding it means there will be and always will be an infinite number of exact copies of our experience. There would be infinite earths, that infinitely live the same exact experience we have, and it means we are likely a direct copy directly reflecting another time and place.

    After watching a few of these, the second world is the result of the first. That, stuff, I'm not saying it, changed and "impregnated" the living matter to create the world the second sees. Yes, the parasite is the mutated first, and I believe one is doing what it was in the beginning, fusing. It just chose the second instead of its journey to get to where the second did and its final form is basically a combination of the three, the stuff, which mutated the first and the world and the second who's new body didn't do what it was supposed to. If it didn't take its body, the parasite couldn't have gotten to it

    The reason Lamb doesn't kill you after severing your connection is the Vita-Chambers. If you die by a violent death, the Vita-Chambers will resurrect you elsewhere, and then you're free to meddle in her plans. If she restrains you until you die of link-severage stopping your heart, you'll stay dead. (The Vita-Chambers are also why you're back from the dead in the first place. Eleanor used the Little Sisters to input your genetic code into the Vita-Chambers to bring you back.)

  • @jronyt4058

    "jack saved the little sisters after the first game, so idk why there's still little sisters here." you clearly didn't listen to tenembaum's audiologs, which is literally the first stage of the game. Fine video I guess but I think the reason why you felt like Bioshock 2 was somewhat of an incoherent story is because you didn't listen. Well fyi, tenembaum returned to rapture because some kids has been going missing in beaches, she suspected that it was rapture who's behind these, and she was right. They're turning surface kids into little sisters because rapture needed them. It just felt disappointing after like 30+mins into the video, you seem to missed a detail in the story that's told in the first level.

    *>StOrY ExPlAieD!* directly from the artbook: We abandoned the notion that we are going to understand everything we see in the game; It’s not just the player who is going to experience this; it’s us also, and we made it. Scorn’s genesis isn’t one of meticulously mapped out plans, then, but of themes that Peklar wanted to express and experiment with. “There wasn’t a well-defined story,” says Acovic.

    I just finished Bioshock 2 for the first time and my first thought when finishing is everything about it felt half-baked. The first game was an iconic 1 for the amazing setting and had a political message behind it but without it being shoved down your thoat. If made today Atlas would be constantly telling you how "This is what happens when capitalism is left unchecked." or something like that, instead it lets the crumbling city and gene splicing crackheads do the speaking for it. This game has no such smart message, there is a sort of idea of a psuedo-communism theme when Lamb speaks of a "utopia", but it's kinda vague and not really laid out well nor do we see the downsides of a ideology like we see with Ryan. The connection between Eleanor and Delta also seems odd, there were points were it sounds like Delta was her actual father but is never really clear but if that was the intent they should have made it clear cause otherwise it feels like she just cares about Delta because that is what the little sister program sought to do. Which isn't very good emotional connection. I do like sinclair somewhat, I appreciate that they didn't just make him another Atlas that betrayed you in the end but at the same time they never gave him a reason to be helping delta in the first place. At times he need Deltas help but that was along the journey as roadblocks came up he didn't need him at the start so he kinda allies him for no reason. The ideas they had were good start but they only really got half way there for most of them. Half-Baked.

      A lot of the story was put into the Audio logs in Bioshock 2 in a way the first game didn't. The first game did a lot more showing and not telling while at the same time being able to convey a more passive story in the Audio Logs. That being said, I think they did a bang up job for a sequel. They didn't step on the toes of the first game and still managed to tell a fairly engaging plot at least IMO. Sure lamb isn't as strong of an antagonist as Ryan or Fontaine were, but she does fit nicely into the world of rapture. a good foil to that of both Ryan and Fontaine. Ryan and Fontaine are two sides of the same coin. They both wanted power and for nobody else to be able to get in between their power. all spoils to the victor mentality for both of them. Lamb was actually a completely different Ideology much like you pointed out a communist type, her goal wasn't just power for the sake of wielding power. She genuinely believed in denial of the self for the benefit of the whole of society. Equally as bat shit as both Ryan and Fontaine but in a very different way. A different ideal for how to make Utopia a reality. While it isn't explored or articulated nearly as captivatingly as the first game did with its dissection of individualism and free market extremism run a muck, I still think its a solid title and better than Bioshock Infinite and that games train wreck of a story.

      @@bigiron1990 Quick note in the future break up the wall of text into paragraphs. Makes it much easier to read. But I don't disagree with most of what you said but its mostly undeveloped. The basic premise and characters were solid but everything about it felt like it was missing key points. Sinclair never gave me a reason on why he was helping me or why I should really care about him at the end. Eleanor is attached to you because of the Big Daddy/Little Sister bonding program, so that connection feels artificial and shallow. Lamb ideology and beliefs are decently fleshed out but I don't really get what her ultimate goal of it all is. Like she wants to create a Utopian and thinks Utopia will follow but that's pretty much it. Makes me think of the Underpants Gnomes Plan from southpark. Step 1: Steal Underwear Step 2: ??? Step 3: Profit All of these could be fixed but they kinda were just left that way makes me think the game might have been rushed out near the end but hard to say for sure.

    • @bigiron1990
      @bigiron1990 Місяць тому

      @@DivusMagus Sinclair wanted out of rapture and saw delta as a means to an end, or at least that is how I interpreted his character. While I agree the relationship between eleanor and delta is shallow… that’s is just how big daddy’s and little sisters work ya know? Neither of them choose that for themselves. The relationship is just a byproduct of the nightmare rapture was/is. As for Lambs end goal, I’m not sure what else there is other than for her to fully realize her ideal utopian collectivist society. I mean what was Ryans “goal” in creating rapture in the first place. To live out his ideals, that was it. He wasn’t planning world domination or anything. He tried to manifest his ideal vision of society and it utterly failed. Lamb is no different, all thought with the amount of infrastructural damage rapture had already sustained I don’t see why you would try and build a utopia in that dead carcass of a city other than the fact it is still mostly hidden from the world at that point and you wouldn’t have to worry about outside influences on your ideal society. I think the weakest part of the narrative is that tennebaum comes back to rapture to put and end to the creation of more little sisters and the hand of lamb and then just kinda disappears when Sinclair shows up. You literally never hear a peep from her again. It drives me crazy.
