Union Pacific Big Boy #4014 - Heartland of America Tour - Part 2: Arthur IL to St Louis MO - 9/10/24
This is Part 2 of 2
Welcome back everyone! Today we're back with the Heartland of America tour and the Union Pacific Big Boy #4014, to finish our trip to St Louis!
This 132-foot long, 4-8-8-4 steam engine built in 1941 by the American Locomotive Company is the largest operating steam engine in the US. It produces 132,375 pound-feet of tractive effort (as many as 270 modern Ford F-150s), and has a top speed of 60 miles per hour. It's an articulated engine, meaning its front set of drivers and pilot truck (or bogie) can rotate separately from the frame to let it navigate tight corners in the track.
On the Heartland tour, the Big Boy and its train travels through ten US states, and today my friends @midnightrailfan and @jackboy317 are chasing it through Illinois. This is our second day, and following the service stop in Villa Grove the night of the 9th, we started chasing again in Arthur (near Villa Grove) and ending in St Louis, completing our chase! I hope you enjoy watching as much as we did chasing.

2:23 I don't know who to feel bad for at the crossbuck. The dude with the camera got his shot ruined, the dog was scared and may have hearing damage, and other two guys have nothing to do with it and just want to see the train. Imo owner is to blame, don't bring your dog to see trains, or at least not that close. They are probably more scared than anything, and more importantly, you're in the photo line. Don't bring a dog right next to a tripod, and if you're a videographer, don't set up near dogs. Excellent videos by the way!

Interesting how some of these symbols no longer exist or have been changed. I've personally never seen Q509 or Q203.
Yeah, that's how I felt when all the Q's got switched to I's and M's. It was a little confusing
@@YellowNoseProductions I didn't start learning about them until mid 2023.. Lol. I only know M209, I141/42, I171, and I192 by heart. We usually come to Deshler for Christmas and I always loved going out to the park to watch a few trains and also come just for the trains. Now my favorite spots to go is Fostoria and Bryan. Ever since they put up that shack in front of the diamond and the gravel pile to the far right, I just cannot get anymore good angles, have not been going as much since.. My guess for the symbol change is for more organization and efficiency, it'd take less time figuring out what kind of train it is. I'm no expert anyways.
