Quite abused machine in use in RAI broadcast company in middle ‘50s… still in working progress, there is no information about it on the web apart of few pictures… anyone having info or schematic please contact me… it has an extra Audax tonearm and few parts missing, but still a part of historic Italian gears!

hi..which phono cartridge did you use?
@@francescodali224 a Fairchild mono cartridge
Information on Fairchilds used to be quite hard to find in the past. I had never heard of a 524. It looks superb!
A very pleasing well balanced sound. I have an early Rek O Kut T12 with a Shure M-232 arm using a Shure SC35C cartridge and it plays with such authority. I want to find a 45 idler wheel but the aftermarket one I bought off ebay, even though it was well made, the metal bearing wasn't tight enough and so it caused noise. I sent it back. Does yours have any rumble? If I am in a very quiet room I can hear rumble when playing a disc. Of course if a play a mono record through a mono amp the noise is almost gone.
@@bertroost1675 yes, it has a bit of rumble but almost not udibile…

what's the coolest vintage studio 16" turntable?
Presto, maybe Fairchild and definitely one of the premium RCAs. If I had to choose one, I'd go with the Presto, probably. If money was no object, I'd think about the RCA 73-B. If performance enters the equation too, Bourdereau and Lie-Belin on the European side have to be included and Fairchild probably excluded. I don't think anyone has compared these with the American equivalents. That would some feat not least because of the 60Hz vs. 50Hz mains difference. It would be great to have someone at least compare all the American greats, to start with.
@@Stelios.Posantzis thank you very much! presto are very rare now, I can’t find them.
@@evgenylobochevsky8309 I think I have seen a Presto broadcast studio gear-driven transcription turntable for sale on e-bay only once in decades. Even the turntables alone, without a base, are nowhere to be found now. All the gear-driven RCAs are impressive but the Presto seemed like the beefiest one of them all. I don't think I ever saw a gear-driven Fairchild so I cannot say about them. Bourdereau or Lie-Belin are of course idler-driven so entirely different animals but they have the most impressive construction imaginable. Any of these turntables are impossible to find online now. Even if they were advertised, one could buy a perfectly working superb new turntable for the money.
@@Stelios.Posantzis I have a friend that has so many old tables. I recall he has a Fairchild but I don't remember the others. He also has two of the broadcast tables as shown in this video.
I just did a quick search: the Fairchild 530D is also a gear-drive table, so quite a substantial machine and thus is back on the list with the coolest ones! For the RCAs, apart from the 73-B, it is hard to select a favourite amongst the 70A/B/C/D versions--although I have a soft spot for the C version.
Wow this is awesome. I've never seen a record player like that before. That is some really clever mechanical machinery there. Only thing I think would have made this machine a lot better would be to have a muted needle lift and drop, but it's still a very genius machine. Where is it from? I'm curious.

Why is the reel-size set to small?
@@L0wcash what do you mean?
@@ilfafioccaro417 I meant the setting of the small/large switch... That's the reelsize right?
@@L0wcash yes
@@ilfafioccaro417 So it should be set to large as you use large reels.. This should assure the right tension of the tape..

WOW. What a beautiful machine. But "Ulster" ?
@@Tojazzer yes, Ulster was a Swiss ( I guess) company partner of EMT. EMT, apart of producing turntables and lately CD player and recording gears was also commercializing others components for their customers, mainly for studio recordings, so in their catalog was possible to find Studer (and lately Lyrec) for tapes machines, ABE and Ulster for mixers… etc…
What a remarkably over engineered turntable! It was interesting to see the lever on the side push the arm into place. Could this be configured to play 7" singles as well?

We had a recording studio in the mid to late 70s…! Always wanted Apex equipment …! I got my hands on a military, suitcase, AMPEX two track ( Tube ) that held 7 “ inch reels…! The fastest was seven and a half… when I would come in the studio early in the morning or if we had a recording session that required me using that machine, I would turn it on a half hour earlier to get everything up to speed and the Tubes warmed up..! Our recording studio mastered actually several albums on this particular two track before, I got a Tascam 25/2 mastering machine with DBX … It would master at 15 and 30 IPs…. You have some of the most beautiful equipment I have ever seen….❤️❤️👍🏻 I’m 70 years old now still playing music and recording….

I just sold a ( Tascam Neo 24 Digital multi track studio ) It was just too complicated…😹😹😹 For some reason, analog is so easy for me to wire up and use …! I love the hands-on part of tape editing for every function. There’s a button….! on the digital recorders, everything has pages on the screen..! Have a great week your friend in Sweet home Alabama Professor Jeff Galey… ( The Jeff Galey Channel )
I had the quad electronics 50 yrs. ago
It has a GE (General Electric) cartridge. GE called it a reluctance cartridge, we now call it a moving magnet type. They sound really great when in good condition.
Variable reluctance is a moving iron design. Reluctance is resistance to the flow of a magnetic field. By placing a fixed magnet and fixed coil near a moving piece of iron (moved by the stylus and cantilever), one modulates the magnetic field from the magnet and thus induces a voltage across the coil.
Libię mono I like mono sound! 👍
