Hi, i'm not knowning so much about sound theory, i've bought a tascam for voice recording for relaxation audios. While i put in AB configuration, i've noticed a slight difference of sound detection between mic left and right. And the left mic seems to catch more my whispering voice than the right. Any way to enhance the right mic ?

Great video. Thank you. I bought the DR-40X and very rarely use it. The reason to buy it was to spread the built-in mics, put it on a table in the centre of my music room, and face it towards my hifi speakers. This way, I assume it will record audio the way my speakers actually sound in person. I could take a line level out of my hifi system and directly plug it into the DR-40X but that would just give me a hi-res audio file on the SD card, right?. In order to share files with friends and family with music the way I hear it in my room, what best way would you suggest? I have 4 different pairs of speakers, and I want to share how they all differently sound while playing the same music from the same source. Your thoughts on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I use iphone 15 Pro Max and I get "USB FS mismatch" error message on my Tascam Portacapture X8. It has the latest firmware and set to 24 bit. Not sure what's going on since it should be something easy, usb-c to usb-c.

With no Bluetooth Had to buy cheap headphones at my local store My iphone sounds ten times better because I can use good Bluetooth headphones NEED wireless

Guitar recording is like its from a solo off an album. I just bought this Tascam. So my questions are now May 2024 not 3-4 years ago. Does this Tascam dr-40X take XLR in both ends meaning am i connecting from the mic with XLR then the other end goes in to the base of the Tascam? Apologies this is all knew to me. My horizontal balance doesn't budge. I loosen the screw and it doesn't move. I'm about to break this thing. Everyone loosens the screw and it moves. I loosen that same screw and it won't budge at all. So utterly frustrating!!

2024 here... still using my DR40(non X) that I bought back in 2013 from Amazon. Picked it up and started recording my own sound effects for my small commercial ad showreels today. I honestly didn't know there was an X version until this video

Thank u for the detail. I watched another person's video and they did not explain- or possibly did not know about setting the sound to mono or explain choosing which ext port you are using. On the point of mono or stereo- is there a way to get stereo sound out of a mic plugged into this device or a way to attach the mic so it sends a stereo signal? As a vocalist a mono sound might be good for some things but stereo is preferred.

Admittedly, I skipped to 'The Easy Way' chapter but this was well done 👍

This is a great video: in-built MICs sound better than I expected: I'll be doing fireplace, rain and wind atmos sounds with it and was wondering if I'll need to be connecting up external mics - but by the sound of your tests I may not even need them.

Counterpoint: if you don't have a treated room, a dynamic mic is better than a LDC. There's a reason why Shure SM7b is so popular for podcasts after all. And in a very well treated room (or a vocal booth) shotgun mics are as very good as well, and a lot of professional VO artists use Sennheiser MKH 416 in their work. Another point to consider is that LDC picks up a lot more mouth noises, it's very clear even in this video. (also comparing a 1000$ LDC to 370$ shotgun and 400$ SDC is a tad bit unfair, but it's good enough to demonstrate a point) I just picked up Audio-Technica AT4073a, which had a 1000$ MRSP but is now discontinued and costs like 200-300$ second-hand, and in my moderately treated room (some foam on walls and ceiling, a couple bass catchers in the corners, very heavy curtains on the window and a carpet on the floor) it sounds better (at least to my ear) than SM7b that I was using previously. But since it's me listening to my own voice, I might not be impartial...

Does the tascam need to have an SD card inserted in order to connect with an IOS device? Trying to plug it into my laptop but the menu will not pop up.
